Him just riffing at the end is great! Met him in Vancouver briefly when he was touring with Joey DeFrancesco (RIP), was very humble and polite, as you can tell from the vid. ✌
I pick that way, too! I never knew that was a church thing. I didn’t do it intentionally. It felt natural. I must say, when I realized Benson (one of my fav guitarists) also picks that way, I was pretty happy.
@matthieurosso @matthieurosso il y a 1 seconde I can't see the most important thing: does he use the adjacent strings to stop the pick or not? (goal game)
erlam*23 (without the asterisk) has a video called CUATRIST*A EDD*IE L*OPEZ (again, without the asterisk) that shows, at about the fifty second mark, a very nice picking style that you can see from above.
I’ve been playing over 50 years. I always wished I could play a bit of authentic be-bop - like George B and this genius player; even at a basic level. It wasn’t to be.
I've been trying these approaches, but it's hard for me. I like alternating and legato mixing, so this technique might work better in alternating picking, but for more fluid and less staccato stuff I think I need to change the angle.
Im more standart closed fist jazz technic, but then i try playing with medium standart picks wit angle, like gypsy jazz but with light gauge picks, its like going back 25 years and restart from zero😢
Benson insists that his technique is NOT a right hand technique but a sync technique involving BOTH hands, and it only works if you use EVEN numbers of notes per string, and change strings on a DOWNSTROKE. It is also the condition to use rest strokes, because there's no way you can rest on the next string and hit that same string upwards in the same movement!
Just watched Rick Beato interview George and I believe George said he stuck to three notes per string while soloing. This of course has its exceptions such as his octave stuff and double stops, etc.
Well, great players on the jazz scene aappreciate Dan Wilson's playing. Didn't you know about that ? You can watch videos and hear him playing with monsters like Joey de Francesco (RIP) or Chris Potter. You can be sure that they did not ask Dan if he "plays music" ! Don't make a fool of yourself dude !
You are a fantastic tutor. And sound like a goldmine of things to learn for guitar students like me. Please prepare your script a little better ahead of recordings to keep pace talking. Cause people's attention span is dropped to that of a gold fish.
Jazz guitars of moments - Wilson and Cecil Alexander- Amazing Technique and sound.

Dan is a sincerely great guy with a lot of heart. Glad you got to document some of his wisdom!
I learned a lot in 5 mins. Thanks, Dan!

"Every one of my idols in the church"....interesting statement.
👍👍👍

I liked Dan in the late Joey's trio...

Amazing player. I had no idea Dwayne Wade was also a professional guitarist

I think you're talking about economy picking, but that's not what this video is about
but you're right, dan doesn't stumble because he plays strict back and forth

in slow motion please!!! lol
Press settings on your right, and select press playback, you'll be able to choose speed you want.
i like this for soloing, but i can't handle this technique for rythms parts : i can't play funk like this !
your idols in the church 🤔 i think you need to reword that. may say mentors.
うめ~。
Do you play music …?
@Romane Gander, do you play guitar??
What kind of question was that?????
🤔
