The Coast Guard loves it that Scho and Jo are so deligent about wearing PFDs while underway. So many boaters don't wear them at all as evidenced by the thousands of videos shot by people like Wavy Boats that love to film all the crazies that come in and out of Haulover Inlet in Miami, who those boaters, in the most hazardous conditions possible, no one on board those boats ever seem to wear their PFDs. They probably don't even have any on board. It's "Standard Ops" for Coast Guard personnel when operating their smaller patrol craft to always wear PFDs and whenever out on deck on even the largest ocean going vessels in all sea conditions. I used to be in the Coast Guard so I am quite familiar with the rules and operating procedures of my former service.
As a South Louisianan swap guy, I will suggest Victoria's Secret Amber Romance perfume and lotion for the biting Gnats. A thermacell is also worth its weight in gold. I just started following this week. My wife and I are planning a 2025 trip. Thanks for all of the info and sharing. On our overnight fishing trips I also use a shower bag that is heated by the sun that allows we to take "warm" showers on deck when needed.
Just got on your channel. We’re planning on May-June of 2022 for purchase and live and learn aboard until + - March to start the Loop. Saw the AGLCA flag, great people. We went to a looper crawl in St. Michael’s Md. in May of this year and couldn’t have run into a nicer group of people. Smooth seas. Thanks D

The "No See Ums" AKA Sand gnats are the worst thing about coastal Georgia and South Carolina. Their seasons tend to be at the times of year that humans best enjoy the weather, in the crisper, cooler less hot and humid periods in the fall, winter and early spring. We had a saying in Savannah about the "No See-ums, you don't see them, but they sure see you!"

Only way to get away from those biting bugs is to get a bit off shore away from land. Which is not a possibility when doing the great loop!
