    Thank you for a reasoned, serious review. So many reviews of inflatable craft are filled with “Gee whiz, this is all so great”...with no description of flaws or how the features could be designed better.

    Helpful video,! Are you still using it 3 years later? is there any protection on the bottom of the pontoons? hard to tell on video. Thanks.

      I use it once a year. I'd use it more but I have ten boats so it waits in line. I picked up a 16 ft saturn kaboat on the cheap after I bought this one. I use that more only because it's bigger

    How is the BoYak holding up? It is my wife's favorite and probably my favorite when it comes to convenience. I don't have a trailer so I have to roll it up and I just leave the floor in it and it is probably the smallest one I have as far as dimension wise when it is folded up. Sometimes I just use a 30-lb trolling motor instead of the gas motor and it does just fine. Not a race boat 😀 with the electric motor but it seems to get up a little better than all of my other inflatables. I hope you enjoy the boat and I would love to see some more videos on the water.

      I like the boyak...kaboat...whatever it is. Lol. It was meant to fill a niche between my yaks which have no motor and my big rafts which are too big to easily launch. I love the oar system as its adequate for navigating technical rivers. As you saw in my other vids i use a beanbag chair as a seat in the IK. this bris boat is a bit too big for that design to work. Sitting on a plank leaves something to be desired. I have all winter to design a solution. I do wish the bris was lighter but i was unwilling to get a smaller boat so it will do. I have a gas 2.5 suzuki for this boat which is a great match. I assume this will be my main boat. I have 5 IKs and 10 rafts so i have high hopes for it

    How would you compare the BRIS vs the Saturn. Is the Saturn worth the extra money or should one save the cash and purchase a BRIS?

    • @snakeclaw
      @snakeclaw  4 роки тому +6

      I do not have the Saturn kaboat but I do have two of their kayaks. I would say the fabric is about identical which is good because Saturn uses a great fabric. The Saturn is $100 more and I almost bought that one. The main reason that I did not buy the Saturn is I wanted the larger tubes that the Bris has. There is a downside to having larger tubes as it is noticeably heavier. My theory is that the larger tubes will handle rougher White Cap waves which I find myself in and at times . The upswept nose is a big selling point versus the lower nose that the Saturn has. I'm a big strong guy and it's right at the limit where I can move this thing comfortably and preferably it's a two-person job. The seats on the bris are adequate and I like them. The seats on the Saturn have been ridiculed by almost every owner and perhaps that was the Tipping Point for me. So I'm not sure what to advise you at. Weight is a huge consideration for a lot of people and the Saturn wins that game. Regarding build quality I would say both boats are the same.

    Did you put an outboard on it? If so, what size? I have the BRIS dinghy, but this seems more travel/river friendly. I'm curious how she handles with an engine.

    What do you think of this after several months? Would be great to see it on the water. Someone local to me (Sydney, Australia) is selling one and I'm tempted by it as an upgrade to my inflatable kayak (which has been great but I want to go on slightly rougher waters and be able to explore more). Lastly - how many adults do you think would fit in this thing? Cheers!

      If its been treated well, not over inflated, no seam leaks, not stored in te sun then yes, buy it. I love mine. Beware though...its heavy. I don't store mine with the seats in the bag and its still basically a two person job to move easily in the bag. The 12 ft version is probably a lot better to move. My 14 ft version is a 2 person boat with gear or a 3 person boat with no gear. The oars are great

    Do u think this kaboat is sea worthy or the heavy duty version

    • @snakeclaw

      I think it's sea worthy. I wouldn't put in a bigger engine than what's rated nor would I abuse it jumping 10 ft swells but normal use, sure

    Compared to the Saturn boat you had, which is better quality?

    • @snakeclaw
      @snakeclaw  4 роки тому +3

      Seems about the same. The fabric on the bris is as good if not better. I just bought a saturn kaboat 473xl yesterday so now i have a direct comparison. The tubes on the bris are bigger, 17.5 inches vs 16 inch on the saturn. The bris has an upswept nose too so for rougher choppy water the bris wins. For trips where you are looking for a lower wind profile the saturn wins. The saturn has a larger interior width by 2 inches and also has a meaty rub strake on the perimeter whereas the bris has none. The features on the xl saturn are a bit better like the rope across the tubes is substantial. Oaring the bris will win as the larger tubes put the locks higher above the floor which will give the oar man a better angle. If bottom thickness is important to you the xl claims to be thicker.

      I own an older saturn kaboat. Bought it used about a year later so now I own both. I use the saturn more but only because it's bigger. It's a 2010 model, or older, and it was stored poorly. The glue is failing in spots but it gives me something to do keeping up with the seam repairs

      No idea. I stop when it's firm-ish. Firm is a big variable as it changes during the day depending on sunlight and ambient temperature
