  • Many experienced players battle a hook. Most of the conventional solutions can actually make them worse. I'll explain why and demonstrate some counter-intuitive strategies for fixing a hook.

    This video saved my driver game. I was trying to fix my hook by opening my club face more at takeaway and it ended up making it worse. I didn’t understand why and it was frustrating.
    I have been waiting for this explanation and I didn’t even know it. Counterintuitive is the key thought. Thank you so much!

    Honestly the best video about fixing the hook. All these other videos just show strange drills. You actually break it down and explain why it’s happening and how the things to fix it don’t make sense but will work. I spent so much time doing all the wrong things to fix it. Now I understand and I’ve stopped hooking.

    Oh man what a lightbulb moment this video is. I’ve been weakening grip and it’s making it worse. Makes sense and looking at my swing I’m too in to out. Fixing the wrong thing. Thanks for explaining it so well.

    Ive had a slice/fade for 30 years and only the last 12 months have developed a hook on nearly everyshot even my firm wedge shots, I thought it was my wrists but this is the first video ive found that confirms this and gives a fix. cheers

    Nice Video Monty. Went to the range today and while I was making good contact with the 6i I was hooking it like an expert. I know that if I watched on of your video's it would help me understand what caused my issue.

    Good video. Obviously there could be numerous more reasons why someone could get in a position to hook a ball, but it's a fact that in order to fix a hook you have to fix the path and make the face square to the path. I find in better players and even myself, that a flat shoulder turn going back leads to a steep shoulder turn down (early extension) and the club gets "trapped" inside and the result is a hook. Basically what you said in your shoulder plane video years ago. I like the feeling of taking the club back on plane and try and feel to stop when your left arm is parallel to the ground (won't be in reality) and feel swinging flatter on the way down or that left shoulder is going around and not up. Keep up the great videos!

    Love Monte and he's usually spot on. But in this case, my experience was that weakening my grip was in fact the cure. I'm a 6 HCP and have been battling an uncontrollable draw/hook for the past couple weeks. Watched a bunch of stuff on UA-cam this morning and went to the range to try and work it out. Fortunately, the first thing I tried worked wonders. I guess my grip had just crept way too strong over time. Weakening it feels weird but it helped immediately. I'm really relieved. I'd definitely recommend giving that a shot if you are having a problem overcooking everything, even when you feel like you've made a good swing. Maybe you'll get lucky like I did and something pretty basic will be the fix. Good luck! And thanks Monte for all the great material! I especially love the short game stuff!

      @Galaka100 Рік тому

      So funny that worked (but of course great it did). He suggests near the end of the video the opposite: you strengthen your grip so that you don’t approach the ball with the face open and feel you have to flip the club to square it.

    Great vid: Been thinking about setting up with a closed face at address to "trick" my mind into letting the wrists swing through freely at impact instead of stalling and flipping at the end? Haven't gone to the range with that though. Just thinking about it. Thoughts?

    Hi Monte, interesting video. I’m a low handicapper who has somehow developed a hook. Every instructor is telling me to weaken my grip and swing more in to out and my hook is getting worse! I’ll try the strengthening of the grip idea! Thanks.

    Exactly my problem, worst is with driver, swing path 8-9degrees in to out and face closed at impact creates a big left hook.

    ?? So...if I'm getting "gear effect" as well, does this change your advice? I'm definitely a #2 player per your 2 diagnosis examples. I guess this explains why I hit it well when my face looks shut at the top. And how can we get Tiger to watch this video?

    This information is dead on and couldn't be any better. Each swing is very different and it takes attention to the individual to figure it out. I have a 7 handicap and I suffer a lot with double crosses and hooks because my swing plane gets way too low and my divots point 20 yards right of the target. That explanation is dead on. Thanks Monte.

    I went from a hook with the driver to a fade, I do everything you're not supposed to do, over the top, weight back, open face,thats the feel, but its not real, but the worst that happens now is a straight pull or a slice off the toe. Still working on the irons, they draw or overdraw. But look at the golfers who slice and imitate them, you won't actually swing exactly like them but it can help get you back to neutral.

  • @mukulrawat62
    @mukulrawat62 4 роки тому

    Wow, this one has been my Achile's heel. Specially with irons. I just can't stop hooking no matter what. I tried weakening my grip, I tried taking the club straight back or out side but I get a very poor result. Why cant I get a decent fade? I thing I noticed that my shoulders are too closed or pointing way to the right. I will try to aim straight now I guess and play the normal shot to let my brain know that my clubface is not open.

    Came out of the winter with a hook...after 3 rounds figured out the fix was just to weaken the grip on the left hand. If all I see is 2 knuckles on the left hand no hook and great results. In other words it can be as simple as that but I totally understand this video most people make it worse by doing what they think will fix it.

    Correct info I believe and exactly what Duval said in his last driver show on GC.. face too open coming in to impact, then fliparoo. Or, leave open and block. Don't go "under" the plane line ever - the pro said - If you're hooking/blocking. Is that why some guys have an open stance and swing to the right..who the F knows..

    99.9% of this video was about what the definition of a hook is and what NOT to do to fix it. There was next to NOTHING about how to actually FIX THE HOOK. Seriously. Thanks for nothing. Thumbs down. If I see a title for a video that says "How to Actually Fix a Hook", believe it or not, I actually expect there to be genuine INSTRUCTION on how to fix it. There was no demonstration or anything. Just "oh, you have to swing more to the left and strengthen your grip", without any demonstration. Huh? Oh, ok. Swell.
