Guvi Takhar Pocketnow That is why you compare the iPhone 6 to the Moto X and the iPhone 6 plus to the note 4. both comparisons of new and comparable devices and release cycles that real people might want to chose from. Who will buy a galaxy S in winter?
They probably will compare it to them later on, but for me the iPhone 6 and galaxy s5 is a fair test as they was released in the same year and next year it should be s6 vs 6s cause they both come out in 2015
It's not an app it's already built into the phone. Go to settings>general>accesability >click on zoom>turn it on>triple tap screen with 3 fingers>choose filter>select low light>then put phone on lowest dim possible. Let me know if you figured it out

Sputnik Spyglass You're saying the iphone is not a powerhouse? both phones are equally as good, unless you pull out the super specific test runs which serves no use other than to show off.
Mike this has got to be both the best and funniest review comparison I've seen from you. Especially that part about an dancing robot with a wig, and then showing a pic of Data in that TNG episode "A Fistful of Datas" when the holodeck yet again is malfunctioning and Worf, Troi, and Alexander are up against you guess it a fisful of Datas. I hope you do an comparison between Samsung Galaxy Alpha and the iPhone 6.
Hey Man, I appreciate your upfront reviews! Definitely one of the most objective, nice work. I'm not a fan boy in either camp I have always felt each company has its benefits depending on what you want.
I wonder if he's running his S5 in ART instead of Dalvik, reduced the animation time, added a custom launcher, or downloaded Chrome? Night and day difference from stock out of the box Android.
He did indeed but it just seems to me that no reviewer aptly explains that if you want to mimic the speed of transitions or rendering of Apple a simple speed scale down is in the developer options. The comparisons seemed to be skewed away simply from form factor or ecosystem but rather capability. When in this year's battle of phones, most all devices align across brand and platform.
Terrance Mackey Agree; it's less a question of single factors like transition speed, and more one of how various elements like ecosystem, design, and power come together to form a whole experience. A tough picture to paint in 10 minutes. ^M
Not turn them off, but rather scale them down a factor. Android out of the box has a "dramatic pause" that gives the illusion of lack of speed as compared to other platforms. If you take the individual scales down a half step the phone appears to move faster.
What I got from this video is basically Samsung needs to get rid of TouchWiz or slim it down! And you have a great device. Don't get me wrong, the S5 is good. But build and software is not there. Since its Android, I can tolerate the software because I can change it completely.
TeamAndroid! It really does not matter how the galaxy feels in the hand compared to the iPhone because first of all, once you pop on a protective case, you wont even care about. Once you turn the phone on and realize what a bad ass it is, you wont care much about what material they used to make it.
I love how it looks and that it's made out of plastic, so many reviews act like it's something bad... But actually it's great... It doesn't scratch easy, doesn't slip out of your hand, it's waterproof, and you can still change your battery... it's just perfect. And besides, the only thing I really look at when I use it, is my screen...
Hahaha did anyone else catch the subtle Battlestar Galactica subliminal message in there? The quick flash of Colonel Tigh when he said "Frak".Well done sir.
Removable battery and SD Card are deciding factors for me. I would get a Nexus 6, but it has none of those two, so Note 4 for me, it opens apps faster than iPhone 6 plus and I bet with a custom launcher it would be buttery smooth as well.
Comparison videos are not meant to determine which is bettter. S5 and iPhone 6 are made for different kinds of people for different markets and different interests.
there is nothing better about the iphone compared to the S5, the speaker could be an exception but it's about it. People shouldn't even be comparing android to iOS because android will always be the winner.
First came Siri. Then what came? S voice! iPhone releases Touch ID, what does Samsung do? Put touch swipe the year after. Yeah. Apple definitely steals..
mojeda117 siri isn't apples, voice search and assasistants were avalaible way before siri, touch ID isn't apples either, motorola atrix had it years ago
Michael Fischer has done it again! Can't put into words how refreshing it is to watch a comparison video (especially one that features Apple & Samsung products) filmed with an unbiased and objective approach from the tech reviewer. It meabs a lot to me to be able to sort "fall in love all over again" with the aspects of a particular model that are sometimes forgotten amongst the cornucopia of specs and features of a flagship handset. Side by side comparisons are one of the best tools for educating a prospective first-time smartphone consumer or helping to tip the scales in one direction or another if someone is considering switching brands. No matter what your purpose may be for watching, I can unequivocally say that Michael is one of the best out there when it comes to delivering a solid, quality experience. I tip my proverbial hat to you and the rest of the tean at PocketNow!!
iOS8 is not finely crafted - it's full of nasty half arsed crap - take a closer look at opening and closing folder for example - note how the corners of the widow suddenly redraw as the folder moves from the animation of open/closed to the final sizing - they leap around - it's shoddy work from Apple, and there are loads more areas where it's just nasty - shield badges at the top of the screen overlap the notification bar, apps that hang require manual intervention to close - in no way is it "refined" like the hardware - in my opinion it's by far the worst release of iOS to date, to the point where I'm thinking of going back to 7.1 on my 5C. Having said all of that, Samsung is crap too - I'd choose neither of these and go for the 2014 Moto-X.
too many people backing s5 i6 just because they own it, I was more then happy with my s3 when I got it but after a while the software started too lag freeze etc so for that reason Im not sure about purchasing a later model,
lmao my s5 isnt that slow lol you probalby have many apps in the background running and have s voice enabled which slows down the time to get to the home screen
Oscar Solares no high end smartphones lag these days, it's only when you compare it with another phone you realize that your phone is slower by a millisecond or so
Oscar Solares Yeah put it next to a nexus 5 or an iPhone 6 and you will see the difference in opening and closing apps. Samsung touchwiz = home of the lag
Also don't forget, he only compared the iphone 6 to the S5. The iphone 6 plus has a better camera, more pixels and longer battery life then the iphone 6. :)
Stefan C. No not android it's the idiotic Samsung fans with their plastic that keep on running their mouths. I'm a Sony, Apple and HTC user and I would never buy a Samsung simply because they don't give a damn about design and good materials such as glass on the Sonys and Aluminium on the HTC flagships.
Museum piece is right M. fisher, it's so delicate it will apparently blend in your pocket. Check out unbox therapy's video on that.. Maybe apple went too thin this year.
There is one thing that no one seems to notice: you dönt need to swipe from the top of the screen to open the notification bar, you can swipe from the middle of the screen too and it will work.
Michael Fisher you are the best , you do the best reviews I have ever seen on youtube , to bad I can't meet you face tot face to tell this personaly and to shake your hand . I am from romania and I hhave to tell that I am a big fan of you and your reviews . " I will see you next time " :)
Best VS battle I have ever seen Mr. Micheal Fisher, and the visuals and video demonstration montages were so well put together. I have to completely agree with your comment on the S5 having better noise cancellation (my wife's daily driver). I did not expect the iPhone demonstration between everyday smoothness to completely surpass the S5. Please keep doing whatever it was you did different for this video. Elderoth - still rocking with the Lumia 920 in Canada
Awesome video as usual, keep it up! :D but you do know that since ios 7 there is a swipe back gesture right? so the back button really doesn't matter anymore
Do you prefer longer removable battery that also has ultra power saving mode? better over all camera minus the gimmick 240p slow mo(btw S5 has 120p slowmo anyways) ? Do you prefer a better display? Do you prefer an OS that doesn't shut down minimized apps in 10 minutes automatically ?Do you prefer Water resistance? Then buy S5 if you resemble a sheep, buy an iBend 6
Listening to your reviews, is like listening to a storryteller as a kid. A good one that is. So conforting and calm. And i can register every word u say, and thing just makes sence. Its like you where born to do reviews. Good job.
Do you know what would make the Galaxy s6 amazing? The choice to choose between stock Android(without rooting of course) and Touchwiz, the ability to download the so called "gimmicky" features from the app the app store(this happening will reduce the heavy set nature of the UI, thus giving the phone a better performance), direct update updates from Google, or Samsung can bypass carrier protocols and give us software updates directly the same Apple does with iOS, and finally prohibition of carrier bloatware and giving us the option to download their apps instead( the iPhone doesn't come with carrier bloatware, so why should Android devices come with them?) Do this, and you'll have a much smoother device. And to think I'm not a even an engineer. Oh, this applies to ALL the other Android OEMs(I hope that was the right term). So does anyone agree with this, or is there more things that need to be done? I'm curious to know.
Samsung is the whole package, it hass all the essentials; water resistant, longer battery, ultra power saving mode, Better Display, Open System , Better Camera.....on the other side you have Apple who contradict them self by making a bigger device which they made fun of 2 years back.
People need to stop smashing the S5 because it's "laggy". It scores over 25,000 in benchmark tests which is higher that 95% of flagship phones, the iPhone 6 included. You just use lag as a way to hate because you are a typical apple fanboy. Don't get me wrong, I loved my iPhone 5S and for a short time a 6+, but it just doesn't stand up to Samsung's incredible hardware capabilities. You would have to jailbreak your iPhone just to be able to match the amount of features the s5 has. And even then, you still don't get 4K video, 16MP camera, heartbeat monitor, Super AMOLED screens with colors that actually look like colors, ect.
All the weaknesses on the S5 is exactly why I went with the HTC M8 myself.. Samsung just has this inherent lag that you don't find in Sense plus it has the full metal body and the loud speakers. Granted the camera is not that great in comparison however
dear Michael I really suggest to do comparison that showing the actual usage speed and efficiency for these phones for Ex. bring two persons with stock phones and ask them to copy an article from any website and send it via email with the bundled mail app and so, sending videos downloading the same 3rd party app and do some actions using the same cellular carrier so it won't affect the wi fi bandwidth for more and fair comparison that will show how fast these phone can serve you
S5 is not even that good, Samsung was lacking behind Apple back then but where Samsung defeats everyone and blows iPhones out of the race is when they released the Galaxy S7 and Note 7.
I bought the Galaxy S5 precisely for three of the features that you so quickly dismissed, removable battery, Micro-SD and IP67 standard. I was looking for a solid water resistant, dust resistant Android phone with a big, clear display. A replaceable battery and storage I could swap out were on the must have list. I use another one of them, that USB 3 port and its high speed, a lot. It gives me the ability to quickly and conveniently move large amounts of data on and off.
Most apps use a swipe from the side of the screen to go back or forward rather than having to use the 'back button' at the top left of the screen. That's been standard since IOS7 came out.
Just one question Pocketnow. Why didn't you mention when recording video the iPhone 6 only records audio in mono while the Galaxy S5 records audio in stereo. This creates a much richer and louder audio recording on the S5. It's funny I only learned about this after watching a European review video. It seems that North American reviewers don't find this fact relevant because I've never seen an American reviewer comment much if at all about this.
I only used Galaxy phones from the original 1 to 4 and after changing to an iPhone 6 plus, this quote comes to mind... "Once you go black, you can never go back"
The only advantage Apple has is when it comes to opening apps. The iPhone is faster in opening most apps but that's it. That's why I tried owning one before. But I realized I prefer a smartphone which I can customize but still fast, so I went full android.
Slightly OffTopic, what do you think of the Note 4 v iPhone 6+? The Note 4 is the one I'm excited to see. I use my phone quite a bit at work, but I am also an app hound and I use my phone for everything. The pen is fantastic. I have the Note 10.1 and love it, but that's not a phone.
I think a comparison between iPhone 6 and HTC M8 would have been better. The M8 also has elegant design, snappy UI, and those awesome front-facing speakers. A lot more common ground, imo.
I haven't tested it out yet, but I turn on the "Grey Scale" on my iPhone 5 during the night (LOVE READING WITH IT!) and I think the battery lasts longer. I can't quantitatively say how much it increases battery life but it is noticeable. So "Grey Scale" is the iPhone's "Battery Saving Mode"?
These comparisons are always so one sided and ignorant. Just because the things the Galaxy has may not appeal to you (Air Gesture, Motion Gestures, Super AMOLED, 16 Megapixel, Heart rate monitor) there are people who really have come accustomed to those just like people with iOS want (iTunes, Software & hardware optimization, iMessage, iCloud, iMovie etc...). Quit saying they are unnecessary when there are people that love and use them and buy the phone for that. Both phones have no problem flying off of shelves. They are both the fastest and the 'best'. Which is ever is your best just depends on what is important to you. But I give Apple & Samsung credit. They are industry leaders.
Im all the way Team Android and love its interface. I was a HTC die hard but I am truly impressed with what Samsung has done. As a phone nerd and lover of technology i respect Apple and the iPhone, how could you not? But the Galaxy S5 meets my needs and at the end of the day its about which phone suits your needs. Great video and comparison.
I like Samsung but I would buy iPhone 6 rather then S5, but now the S7 and Note 7 are the best on market, and iPhone 7 will be no match to those phones
Finally someone not afraid to give their personal opinion on which is the better phone. I get the whole "if you like blah blah blah, then this is the phone for you" approach but I liked the way Fisher incorporated that as well as chose a phone that he felt was the superior smart phone. After all, that's the whole point of comparing/contrasting the two devices.
It's great how he tested stock apps which are different in ways when he should have tested 3rd party ones. S5 opens 3rd party apps quicker. It's just that apple stock apps are not bloated.
Dude your videos rock... You do the best comparisons
Michael b Thanks, Michael! ^M

iphone 6 the best phone in the world .. speed smooth no lag
As an Android user... you right.
Fanboy alert
The iPhone 6 has had 999999999999 Microlags trough out the video.
I have a OnePlus One and it seems at least as smooth and snappier than the iPhone 6. I think the animations of the ios8 take some time.
Bullshit iPhones lag like a mofo
You can dim the iPhone way down to just like the S5 if you just put the low light filter on
Eric Enright All the apps we've found in the App Store only allow dimming to the lowest factory setting, no lower. What're we missing? ^M
It's not an app it's already built into the phone. Go to settings>general>accesability >click on zoom>turn it on>triple tap screen with 3 fingers>choose filter>select low light>then put phone on lowest dim possible. Let me know if you figured it out

Make a video about android 4.4.4 vs iOS 8.0
Android 5.0 vs IOS 8 would be smarter.
But that's not offical out yet. Only beta version
Of course, I Know. But it would be better to wait until the update. Android 4.4 vs IOS 8 doesn't make sense in my opinion
One of my questions are, who in the hell was the nuckle head to convice google to put thier software in ios? Do we see itunes in the playstore nooo...
jimmy pena Yes, I agree, that's weird... but we know that Google wants to reach "the next 5 Billion". Puting their apps into IOS is a good start.

This is the best comparison Pocketnow has done in my year of following the channel. Michael Fisher is the fuel that keeps this channel going.
Holy shit! I didn't even notice the iPhone 6 video stabilization until you put it side by side with the S5!
Great work as always Michael. Just wondering what that cool moving background was on the S5 and can I get it on my One M8?
Do a similar video but with the M8 please *****
So far, my favorite Michael Fisher video.
IPHONE 5S as phone and SAMSUNG TAB S as big screen computing
There is one thing that no one seems to notice: you dönt need to swipe from the top of the screen to open the notification bar, you can swipe from the middle of the screen too and it will work.
One super important detail that wasn't mentioned would be the price! There is quite a difference between the two...

Great review that was perfect. Looking forward to more reviews with other devices!
Awesome video as usual, keep it up! :D but you do know that since ios 7 there is a swipe back gesture right? so the back button really doesn't matter anymore
Samsung should spend money on a better design team for their phones rather than on lame and anti-apple advertisements.
Then buy S5
if you resemble a sheep, buy an iBend 6
A very unbiased comparison.
Not often do we see those nowadays!
i think samsung made the s5 purposely like that bc they wanted everyone to think the s6 is a MAJOR upgraded
Listening to your reviews, is like listening to a storryteller as a kid. A good one that is. So conforting and calm. And i can register every word u say, and thing just makes sence. Its like you where born to do reviews. Good job.
Do you know what would make the Galaxy s6 amazing? The choice to choose between stock Android(without rooting of course) and Touchwiz, the ability to download the so called "gimmicky" features from the app the app store(this happening will reduce the heavy set nature of the UI, thus giving the phone a better performance), direct update updates from Google, or Samsung can bypass carrier protocols and give us software updates directly the same Apple does with iOS, and finally prohibition of carrier bloatware and giving us the option to download their apps instead( the iPhone doesn't come with carrier bloatware, so why should Android devices come with them?)
Do this, and you'll have a much smoother device. And to think I'm not a even an engineer. Oh, this applies to ALL the other Android OEMs(I hope that was the right term).
So does anyone agree with this, or is there more things that need to be done? I'm curious to know.
And the prediction feature on SwiftKey is at it again... Sigh.
LMAO YOU STOLED MY IDEA XD
You're funny...

Michael, your way of comparing and reviewing devices are very logical and fun! Thank you!
My IPhone 5S was crying while i was watching this review :'(
Samsung is the whole package, it hass all the essentials; water resistant, longer battery, ultra power saving mode, Better Display, Open System , Better Camera.....on the other side you have Apple who contradict them self by making a bigger device which they made fun of 2 years back.
Your videos just are getting better and better Michael!! Cheers!!!
25000......don't make me laugh
All the weaknesses on the S5 is exactly why I went with the HTC M8 myself.. Samsung just has this inherent lag that you don't find in Sense plus it has the full metal body and the loud speakers. Granted the camera is not that great in comparison however
so far this is the most balanced , and fair review between iOS product and android product
loved the j.j. abrams reference! ROCK ON POCKETNOW!
it makes sense though to throw a bundle of software in there. sometimes you don't really know how useful it can be until people start playing with it.
Michael, which would you choose between the 6 plus and note 4?
dear Michael I really suggest to do comparison that showing the actual usage speed and efficiency for these phones for Ex. bring two persons with stock phones and ask them to copy an article from any website and send it via email with the bundled mail app and so, sending videos downloading the same 3rd party app and do some actions using the same cellular carrier so it won't affect the wi fi bandwidth for more and fair comparison that will show how fast these phone can serve you
One of the best comparison videos. Kudos Michael. Love your videos. Keep'em coming.
Pocketnow Hey, whats that app on the screen at 8:10? ALso good work Mike. Always love your reviews.
This is certainly the best comparison I've ever seen. Liked favorited and shared :D
"Once you go black, you can never go back"
And....there we have it!!
The only advantage Apple has is when it comes to opening apps. The iPhone is faster in opening most apps but that's it. That's why I tried owning one before. But I realized I prefer a smartphone which I can customize but still fast, so I went full android.
Extremely nice comparison, I like your content so mich Pocketnow. Keep up the great work!
This has to be the most honest review I have come across. I fully agree with every argument raised against both phones. Thumbs up!
Great review as usual!! What would I do without PocketNow
Nice video. Can always count on you to film a fair and well made comparison video.
Probably the best comparison video I've ever watched!
Michael Fisher nailed it!
Perhaps a better comparison would have been The Galaxy Alpha vs The iPhone 6.
Great comparison Michael . Reviewer's should really stop sitting on the fence when it comes to comparing products . Glad someone's doing it .
Great video, Michael !
like you did in this video, it would be nice to hear your opinions in your videos, its really helpfull.
Awesome review, just WOW, best so far.
I watched and enjoyed whole video, great great job!
Keep up the good work!
It's great how he tested stock apps which are different in ways when he should have tested 3rd party ones. S5 opens 3rd party apps quicker. It's just that apple stock apps are not bloated.
