Riyoko said that after recently hearing it on the radio and remembering how beautiful it was, she wanted to try improvising on it. This is essentially a one-off improvisation (Riyoko played it once and won't play it again - the reason she told me is a risk of creating an inferior rendition - Riyoko's spontaneity is powered by a mood-controlled auditory-visual synesthesia and this performance's mood was inspired by hearing this piece after a long time, she'd need the same kind of inspiration to match it). This performance was recorded on 4 July 2023 at MZES Tokyo (copyright holder, I don't own any rights to this recording). Riyoko is playing a restored World War II era one-of-a-kind Kawai "Majestic" grand piano prototype. She's renowned for her musicality, deep harmonic understanding, live performances full of energy with fluent improvisations, and delicate touch on the keys. Together with her talent and charming character she continues to proliferate Jazz and attract many fans from all over the world.
