- "Dear Prudence" was written by John Lennon and credited to Lennon/McCartney. It was recorded by The Beatles as the second track on their 1968 double-disc album entitled The Beatles (also known as The White Album).
It's a masterfull piece of rock-funk. it's all about the way McCartney turns a simple groove into one of the most sophisticated sounding parts he ever recorded with The Beatles. Yet again he determines the character of a superb Lennon composition and yet again his contribution is the most important element after Leenon's vocal.
This is probably my favorite bass part that Paul ever played. So creative!!
Always great bass playing . I have been a Beatles fan ever since they came to America. I'm 63, I started playing bass 2 years ago, and I learn a lot from you. Keep up the great work.
Dear Maggie, won't you come out to play
Dear Maggie, join the band today
The Vox is on, on bass are you
we're on the spot and we can do
Dear Prudence won't you come out to play
Dear Maggie let us see your eyes
Dear Maggie look the sunny skies
The bass is on the boys will sing
you're on the spot and play "Wild Thing"
Dear Maggie won't you let us see your eyes?
Look around round round
Look around round round
Oh look around
Dear Maggie play a fingerstyle
Dear Maggie try a little while
The pick could be the best you choose
play fingerstyle and you won't loose
Dear Prudence won't you let play fingerstyle?
Dear Maggie, won't you come out to play
Dear Maggie, join the group today
The Vox is on, on bass are you
the boys are high and we can do
Dear Prudence won't you come out to play
Wow. I'm impressed. :)

I'm glad you liked...English is not my first language so I hope the song sounds good...can I ask you exactly which model of Hofner Ignition and ampli do you use? I guess that many ask you about this but I'm not able to find your replies.
I'm going to buy the same equipment. I play guitar but I've always wished play bass.
Zeusdattilo English is neither my first language :) but I think I understand your words. The guitar is just Hofner Ignition - there are no other markings. I use Line 6 Pod Farm 2 as an amp for the guitar. I hope I could help.
Thanks again, I found then that you've already replied to my question about your equipment.
Maggie, Nice work watching your video only goes to show how very talented McCartney was.In the Beatles later years( 66-70) He usually laid down his bass track after most of the other instruments had been done.Which I feel gave him time to really work out what he wanted to write for the bass part..What he did on "Old Brown Shoe" was amazing as well..And a Major Kudo's on what you have done here with covering this tune!! Rock It Girlie!! :) Blessings,~ Warren
As a bassist, I was always fascinated with this bassline. When I ended up doing a cover of the song, the bassline was a blast but the guitars were quite unique as well. Also, Paul played the drums on the original recording.
I'll be using your videos for reference to learn some of these bass lines!! Thanks for sharing!!!
i love it this song, you play bass very good!!!! congra!!!! you are grand
Splendid! Thanks.
SUPERB!...as always from you.
I love this song and you are a great bass player
Love it!
Incredible! Your bass playing is perfect. I love this Beatles' song also. Where did you learn how to play like that? I really admire you!
Wow, that was pretty awesome .
thank you for the nice bass lesson Maggie
Maggie, watched a couple of your vids. Excellent work:)
Perfect
I've heard a lot of covers on this song but this is over the top......
I agree about your opinion of Paul on this song. Anyway, I'm sure that kind of influence traveled in both directions. My personal opinion is that both drew more from his talent as "arrangers" who as composers or musicians. Maybe that's why they were "something else".
Watching your vids is the same as watching my friend "batmankozyy" videos. Even I listened a million times thoses songs before, I always discover something new.
Macca will be watching you, you are some serious competition. They should have hired you for the white album. rock on!. I would like to see you do RAIN. I'll be watching
Love the bass! Playing is great too. I didn't hear a single mistake
I've always loved this bass line, it's also very interesting and unique!
beautiful woman and beautiful cover

la tocas perfecta, te felicito, eres muy talentoza.
Dear Maggie, playing full of grace - Dear Maggie, can we see ur face :)
very good, I'm hooked....
Nice!
Yeah! That's true - Paul wasn't avaiable at the time they recorded it. I wonder which bass George used...
thank you for your anserw but you almos answered what i wanted the lowest E in the bass and the lowest E in the guitar are both E but they don sound equal and not beacuse the instrument its because the frecuency thats the same reason of if you pull drop A string and then twelve fret A string will sound diferent but they will still be both A my question more specificly is wich string of the bass and guitar have the same frecuency.
You play it exactly like Paul and i have a question that i can´t find in google and i´d apreciatte if you or someone could answer me wich notes are in the guitar and in the bass sorry for my bad english i mean guitar have E, B , G ,D ,A, E and bass G, D, A, E that on the las string of the guitar it´s the same E of the last string of the bass?
i like your bass ,really nice
a six string guitar in standard tuning is (low to high) E,A D,G,B,e. the bass guitar in standard (low to high) is E, A, D, G. Theres no B and high e on a bass. so the first 4 strings on a guitar is the same notes as the for strings on a bass. i hope that answers your question?
I was lucky enough to be 12 when the beatles began so my teenage years were choc full of beatles magic and live 40 miles away from liverpool (blackpool|),,,soundtrack of my life and full marks to you Maggie for your precise emulation of their songs...xx
John wrote this song for Mia Farrow's sister Prudence Farrow. When they were on retreat in India Prudence was in a funk and would not come out of her room. So John wrote this for her and sang it outside her room. She came out!
Wow congrats on your stunning playing! I would give anything to be able to pick up that lovely bass, and play with your abilities:) Truly a great performance, and thanks for sharing your talents with all of us:) Best wishes:)
I know you've heard it all before but your tone is as beautiful as you are. And the fact that you included that little "accidental" note right before the "round round" bit says it all! Cheers!
you should marry me......your beautiful and talented......... you played that song perfect i play bass but im a drummer wish i had you in my band........... keeep playing dont ever give it up........
I love the bass in this song. It goes something like thump-thump-thump*pause*-da-da-thump-thump-thump-da-da-thump-thump-thump-thump (that's the best way I can explain it lol). This song is just epic.
im sorry u probably get this all the time but which tab did you use for this? thank you so much for posting these videos, awesome to watch someone play these bass parts so perfectly!
your bass rocks so badly
I like your bass. I have the same one in lefty :]
Brilliant, once again....Hofner should give you commission, or a job, you might well have inspired a few to go out and buy a violin bass...! :-)
@Drakkonam I don't know but Wikipedia says that McCartney played the bass.
My favorite bass and one of my favorite Lennon compositions. Well done and keep them coming. You ended it perfectly.
@bioshockkid The bassline of She Said She Said was played by Harrison if I'm not mistaked.

what a very good job is it! I think to hear this bass line. Paul has a gift. I would like to talk with you about beatles. Remenber me from Fukuoka Japan.
Paul played so many of his great bass parts on Lennon songs. Rain, Hey Bulldog and this one come to mind.
Maggie8181 what keys do you use on the bass line? correct me if I'm wrong, but if I am going to guess, I would probably say the bass part starts in Eb
Muito bom !
okay, what effects, gear and whatever you use to make this sound? because it sound amazingly spot on.
I believe George played bass on "Two Of Us"....at least the Let It Be movie version of the song.....
@Maggie8181 Oh, I saw it now. I thought that as Paul played the drums, George had assumed the bass.
I just saw a bass at the music store down the street that literally looked exactly like yours. I freaking fell in love with it... Beautiful cover as well!
Hey Maggie, any way you could share your "Dear Prudence" Tabs?
I love the way you play it !!!
