Great year on both our ends! My favorite book this year was actually a reread: Aristotle's Metaphysics. Then, of course, Emerson's essays. Fiction, I dunno. I'm thinking Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast trilogy. I also really liked James Fenimore Cooper's Deerslayer and The Last of the Mohicans. Thomas Hardy is pretty great, too. I just read so much I can't remember everything, lol. I liked Vanity Fair by Thackeray; Knut Hamsun's Hunger and Mysteries. Hmm... I would say Paradise Lost, but I think I read that last year (either way, that's my second favorite epic poem). Lol. The days kinda meld together after a while. 😂

Yeah its true that the days feel like that meld together! You had a very productive reading year for sure! I wish I could have made more time for nonfiction but since I'm such a huge mood reader I need to be in the right head space for it. Vanity Fair is definitely a classic I want to eventually get to. Anna Karenina is my next tome I plan to tackle. You mentioned Knut Hamsun; I actually added his book Pan to my tbr. I haven't heard of him until recently and I'm curious to try out his stories. Thanks so much for watching!

Wow, you had a fantastic year, Marianne! 😃 I've been meaning to read Till We Have Faces for a very long time. I took a course on C. S. Lewis a very long time ago, and that was almost the only book of his that we didn't read, haha. I'd like to read Apuleius first, so that's one of the reasons the Lewis book keeps getting put off. The Hardy novel sounds wonderful. Can you believe I have not read Zola yet? Wilkie Collins is also on my list, but I may check out The Moonstone first; we'll see. Thank you for another wonderful video, my friend, and best wishes for 2024!

Thank you Jorge! I certainly had a better reading year compared to last year. Since you mentioned Apuleius, I did read his novel this year too, shortly after Till We Have Faces. I wanted to compare the original myth to the retelling. It was entertaining and a bit strange in the sense that the section dedicated to the myth itself almost feels out of place to the rest of the story, with regards to tone. Its a beautiful side story yet the majority of the book is comprised of humorous and bawdy shenanigans. If you're interested in Zola I highly recommend either The Ladies' Paradise or Therese Raquin to start with! As for Collins you can't go wrong with The Moonstone although my favorite is still The Woman in White. Thank you so much for watching! Take Care and wishing you all the best for 2024!!

@cassiopeiathew7406 I'm always happy to hear that others share my taste in books! And yes, I would recommend giving The Ladies' Paradise a read. I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Thanks so much for watching!
