Stats don't always prove a player to be the best. That explains Charles Woodson's career in my opinion. He doesn't have the most INT's, FF, or tackles as a CB. But I believe, overall, he is the best CB ever to play. Even if he never won a SB he would be still. But in this case, he won one. And if he wasn't a Packer, Aaron Rodgers would still be ring-less. He inspired that defense to play the way they did that season. He wasn't a CB, he was a football player. God's blessings to you all.

I remember that play when he stripped Ricky Watters in Seattle, they gave the ball back to Seattle as a touchback because Marquez Pope slid into the EndZone and he was touched by a defender. Years later the NFL changed the rule so the recovering team could retain possession at the point of recovery. NFL rules never went the Raiders way. The same with the Tuck Rule. They were enforced against the Raiders. Coincidence? God's blessings to you all.

A truly great Cornerback. Don't get me wrong. I love the guy, wish the Raiders had him back again in his youth, but to call him the "best" CB "ever". Nope. Not even close. He did have a long storied 18 year career and even made the Pro Bowl his very last year as a safety. I hate the fact he spent 7 of those years in Green Bay, actually his best years. He won All Pro honors 3 times in his career and 2 of those were in Green Bay. He also earned 9 Pro Bowl appearances. Does he deserve to be in the Hall of Fame? Heck yeah he does! And he is enshrined there forever. But to call him the best ever? He's not even the best Raider cornerback of all time. Mike Haynes spent 14 years in the NFL. Half of those years, his best years, were spent with the Raiders. He too is in the Hall of Fame, earning 2 All Pro honors, both with the Raiders, and also 9 Pro Bowl selections. He teamed with Lester Hayes, who should also be in the Hall Fame, making up the best duo of cornerbacks probably in the history of the game. But they aren't the best either. That honor belongs to Willie Brown whom most of you never got to see play. I did. He added a whole other category to the term lock down Corner. He was so good that QBs learned early on to not test him. One season opposing QBs only threw against him 5 times, FIVE TIMES, the entire season and he intercepted 3 of them. Well, actually one wasn't an interception. The receiver caught the ball and Willie ripped it out of his arms and ran towards their goal line but they still counted it as an interception. I once saw Willie run down Lance Alworth, otherwise known as "Bambi" because he ran so fast they said he ran like a deer. Alworth played for the Chargers and was one of the most dangerous deep threats the NFL ever saw. Once he got past you it was all over but the crying because he was going to score. He had a 2 yard lead on Willie Brown and I watched Willie close that gap and at the last possible instant, bat the ball away. He played 16 years in the league, was honored 5 times as All Pro and 9 times to the Pro Bowl. You will be very hard pressed to find a better Corner, ever. Even Mel Blount, Hall of Fame Corner from the Steel Curtain defense of the Steelers in the 70s, falls short with 2 All Pro honors and 5 Pro Bowl honors. The "best ever"? That's an honor that goes to Willie Brown. Does Woodson have more interceptions? Yep. But that's not surprising when QBs were so afraid of Willie that they only threw passes against him 5 times in an entire season.

If it's just a corner conversation, I'm taking Mike Haynes, Deion Sanders, or Everson Walls. If it's safety, I'm taking Ronnie Lott or Ed Reed, period. After that, Woodson is in the conversation along with Tim McDonald, who is very underatted. People 4get he was the business for 5 years in Phoenix b4 he hit free agency with the 49ers. B.
