Tele had personal differences with Leão. But Waldir Perez failed only against URSS, I don´t think he had any impact on the disqualification against Italy.
I don't think Waldir Peres was the highest international class - a better keeper e.g. Peter Shilton would have stopped Rossi's second goal against Brazil.

Careca was already far better than the center forward Serginho, who replaced him in 82 and Leão was lightyears ahead of Waldir Peres.
