Scotland had a win and 2 draws but finished 3rd in the group behind Yugoslavia and Brazil on goal difference. Holland did not beat them 2-0 at this World Cup as mentioned either.
I wouldn’t say this is prime football, football is a living sport and will continue to grow and evolve, but this type of play style; we might never see it again and I wish I was born earlier to watch it live. If we look at football before 2010, there are rarely possession play style and no good pass especially before 2000, it’s all quick counter and individual skills, and yes don’t get me wrong there are of course great passers but not just like today’s football, now it’s all possession games, even almost every country who have their own play style are now dying, some example I can give are; Germany with German discipline They capitalised their strength and energy but in today football that can rarely be seen Brazil with their flair, not only is it dying but, certain flair can get you booked England also known for their quick counter is now 110% possession game with 70% of the passes are back pass And yes all these are on the coaches but still, it means they didn’t really care about the heritage. Football becoming too tactical is getting boring to an extent. Netherland are the only country I know who keep their playstyle to this day, and they are a pleasure to watch!
Both teams were superb ,and the final score can be misleading..the Scottish team was great ,maybe the best scottish team ever ,as some people put .and that brazil.in my view too.i remember that cup so many games were worth seeing.unfortunately i haven't seen this very game .thanks for. The opportunity to see its highlights!great! Hello , everyone there have a nice day
They might have nicked another goal, but Brazil would’ve just pressed the pedal to the metal up front again. One of the funniest quotes I read about Narey’s screamer was that it was the earliest consolation goal in World Cup history! Now that I come to think of it, the gag is a bit generic but it kinda sums up Scotland when it comes to footy!
@@titteryenot4524 Possibly. But in their first two games Brazil were very nervous and took a long time to settle down. The heat clearly affected the Soviets and the Scots but it didn't bother the Italians.
@@Ruda-n4h Yeah, fair play. The Brazil of ‘82 lacked 2 things for me: 1. As you suggest, a slightly wobbly defence. 2. The mental toughness to win the thing. However, in pure beautiful footballing terms and just watchability factor, they were clearly the winners of the tournament. The ‘86 Brazil team were also good. Not as beautiful as this one. After ‘86 Brazil, alas, got practical. Seemed to ditch the impromptu beaches of Rio de Janeiro for the duller European way. And to this day, notwithstanding the occasional wonder boy, such as Neymar (note his lack of mentality, btw, he would’ve fit right into the ‘82 team!), we have a practical, functional Brazil team. Sad.
@@titteryenot4524 Very true. Brazil got better in '86 as the tournament went on and had they got passed France in the quarter-final shoot-out might have had a very good chance in the final against Argentina.
Eder's goal was a thing of beauty !!
So was Zico’s!

There were 2 things that were lacking in the Brazil ‘82 team: a _really_ solid defence and mentality. Everything else was there.
This was probably Scotland s best ever team as well...
Nope 1974 was our best team when we were unbeaten in a World Cup and we were better than the then World Champions Brazil🏴
Holland beat ya 2 0
