    Very well explained and demonstrated. Thank you! Would it also work to use the radial gradients to just increase the whites instead of raising overall exposure or would that look unnatural?

      Hi Daniel 😊. I always like to try something different in my editing. I also take a 20 minute break after trying new things. Go back after break and take a look and you will know right away if it looks unnatural 😊.
      Thanks for watching ☺️

    Nice video and information Richard! Thanks! For my part, I use Silver Efex 3.0 in the NIK Collection, which gives many opportunities to mix the "boring" photo with. Using the blend mode "Luminosity" also reproduces the colors from the photo. There is an incredible amount to be able to experiment with. I really agree that a boring photo can be transformed into something extra ordinary :-)

    Further evidence that all serious photographers are OCD. I'd bet that when you were done, you looked at it the next day, you were still not happy. I do love that with RAW, you can go back forever and correct, reverse and revise each move.

  • @BusterMcFlea
    @BusterMcFlea Місяць тому +1

    Thanks Richard for a great video. RAW capabilities are in cameras for good reason and you’ve demonstrated why in excellent fashion. The RAW file is the negative and when processed one has the opportunity to creatively interpret it as was the case with film. JPEG is fake because it’s left to a computer to determine the final result. RAW requires the human creative spark, JPEG doesn’t. I’ve just started using Camera RAW so your video is timely. Keep up the good work. I am pleased to subscribe to you.

    Hello Richard, great work, but: you have already converted your photo to black and white when you show it to the viewer at minute 1:09, but not in Camera Raw, as the profile is still set to ‘Colour’.

      You can put linear gradients onto a mask.
      I'm pretty sure that there are no useful upgrades since my version PSE14 which is now 15 years old other than being able to group layers. Any upgrades now come with some sort of subscription, can't remember the details.

    My pictures have changed since I've watched your videos. My histograms look like yours, leaning left (as do I). It's a whole new style.
    Could you do all that dodging using the brush and intersecting with a luminance range?

    I am not a zealot to declare that what you are doing is not valid, but for me the less an image is manipulated with to make it look dramatic the better. Too much manipulation is not good.
