Do you look for contrast (dark and light) in the original shot? For example, the white of the government building lends itself to your method of editing. I guess I am asking, do you envision the subject in black and white before you take the photograph?

this is a masterclass... well done. On the horizon/ridge-line where the sky and the land meet, there is a highlight/narrow halo effect if you will that I see. Is there a technique you apply that would mitigate this remnant of the digital editing process?

Nice work, I like to use NIK Silver Efex for B&W along with LRC & PS. I like learn from Clyde Butcher as well. Too bad Ansel Adams was not around for digital editing, he and Clyde have marvelous eye for composition. Keep up the good work.

What is the reason for increasing saturation and vibrance before converting into black and white? Does it give more information to play with?

I am not a zealot to declare that what you are doing is not valid, but for me the less an image is manipulated with to make it look dramatic the better. Too much manipulation is not good.

I'm so glad I found this! I've always struggled with the luminance mask. Others use the slider bar, but I've never gotten that to work. This is more like the days of dodging and burning in the darkroom under the enlarger. It seems to me to be more organic. Thank you for sharing this!

Question: In the Detail panel, I understand why you would increase Sharpening a little, but why did you decrease Radius and increase Detail and Masking?

I've watched several of your videos and quicky noticed how you followed the same (or similar) work process. Your general process make sense to me. So, I have RAW 17.1. Following your instructions: at 0.51seconds... you make a change at Profile Adobe Color. This is where I can't follow you with my version of RAW. My Profile Doesn't have Adobe Color and the rest of the choices that you have shown here. I have Color Monochrome, Artistic, Modern, B&W and Vintage. Each one of these has a drop down, but nothing that leads me to Adobe Landscape. So, I'm not sure where to go from that point forward regarding changing my color images to B&W. Suggestions?

I'm a photography student and I have yet to get a firm grasp on black and white editing. I just discovered your channel. After watching a handful of your videos, please accept my firm handshake and a pat on the back with a heartfelt "Thank You!."

Further evidence that all serious photographers are OCD. I'd bet that when you were done, you looked at it the next day, you were still not happy. I do love that with RAW, you can go back forever and correct, reverse and revise each move.

Thanks for sharing your B&W technique videos. I’m working my way through them and slowly working out how to get the best from my images to convert them to better looking images. One question what printer do you use to print the B&W images? My printer Epsom xp960 only has one black so I get images with a blue hue to them.
