Have a oil leak? You may have a leaky oil cooler. In this video i go over the complete replacement process of the oil cooler on a 2007 Nissan Altima 2.5L. Procedure should be the same from 2007-2012 Also for the Nissan Sentra and Nissan Rogue. To fix this leak you may also replace the gasket inside the top of the cooler by removing the 4 bolts holding the top in place. Please subscribe to the channel to help our channel grow. Did this in the driveway for $50 in an hour and a half soup to nuts. Your video was very helpful. Getting to the cooling lines from underneath was a PIA. I removed the airbox and disconnected the cooling lines at the upper cooling manifold and then fished the cooler with lines attached out from the wheel well. Did the same on installation of the new cooler. Made it a bit easier. Thanks for the video.

I just did it. I couldn't get the hoses off one handed through the wheel well. I I took the hoses off at the back of the engine and removed the cooler with the hoses attached. The I made sure to orient the hoses on the new cooler in the same direction. Soooo much easier and did the job in less than 1 hour.
I cannot do the work myself any longer but have a mechanic I trust doing the work. Absolutely great video. Thanks.

Very nice video but after doing the job myself I have something to add... taking the coolant hoses off of the top of the oil cooler is not worth the trouble. Leave the hoses connected to the top of the oil cooler. Remove the air cleaner. Disconnect the other ends of the coolant hoses from the top rear of the engine. You will have to plug up the metal pipes with something a small rubber cork is what I used. Pop the two houses out of the clip that holds them to the back of the engine. Once you unbolt the oil cooler from the back of the engine you can pull the oil cooler with the two hoses attached down and kind of snake the hoses down to free them from the engine. Once you're done changing the O-ring inside the cooler you can snake the coolant hoses back up the back side of the engine and reconnect them.

By far the best "How to" do this job. Everything was pretty much described. However, I wonder had it been better to disconnect coolant hoses from the source atop, to avoid that uncomfortable clamp tinkering. Since I have this job coming my way, I may be the first to try it, Or, look into it. I will say though, I don't like that the new cooler has "Torx head" screws versus the usual 10mm heads. It's not always needed to replace the entire cooler, but the gaskets that pertain, and 10mm head screws beat them T-25 Torx heads. But I do understand that is probably dependant on who manufacturs it. I would like to know, what type and brand (model) electric ratchet ou used? Seems to fit well unlike others I've been contemplating. I'd appreciate if you would inform me. Thanks. John

@@EddiesCustomsandRestorations ya firestone. Well i pulled it out last night, i cleaned it up to where it looks brand new. I didnt see any leaking at the gaskets as they are brand new. But i pulled off the sensor and noticed its got oil sll over it and the seal for it was cracked and broken. So im going to attempt to replace the sensor and seal put it back together, and see if it still leaks. Such a pain in the ass to do if it still leaks

Very good video, except for windnoise on microphone. A concave-ground screwdriver is easier on the hoses. Old mechanic here. Used to could do these, but a friend was quoted $1500 today. Part is only $45! You rock! Get a fuzzy mic cover.

jaxknzCarolyn McTyreqqkskeklq when you change that part...you have to bleed the cooling system...cause it gets air in the system from removing the hoses from the oil cooler....

the easiest way to remove the coolant pipes from the oil cooler is to undo them from the other end at the top of the engine. then pull it through.
I have a 2012 nissan sentra and there is a leak on front driver side where could the leak be coming from? My engine is on right side so I figured it's not engine oil..

Youre very welcome. And Chances are your intake manifold gasket is leaking oil into the spark plug hole.

I learned that this is something that I should avoid doing.
I learned that this would take several hours before realizing that I should not have started this job.
I learned that this crosses the threshold from doing my friend a favor to wanting to strap my friend to a wooden chair and throw him out of the back of a pickup truck and into the path of a speeding van.
I learned that this job cannot be done with a pair of channelocks and a screwdriver. No matter how many beers my friend brings over.
I also learned that I should just call up my friend and politely tell him to take it to a shop. It may not save him any money, but it will save me from a murder charge.

You are great guy and your explanation was a fantastic, but i have question, Why you didn’t use Aluminum repair putty to stop the leak 🤔, And is it a solution for that kind of leak?
Its a gasket between that leaks. Rather fix it correctly than doing that because it is not a guaranteed fix to patch it up that way and I personally wouldn't trust it. It can still leak around the bolt holes as well.

Does the oil cooler already have the o-ring in it when you buy it? I didn't see you put one in...
All you need is the gasket that I showed in the beginning. The orings are inside the cooler. Cooler comes ready to install but you will need to purchase the gasket shown there.
I have a leak coming from this part of the engine does have to be the Oil cooler or just the gasket on it do i have to replace the hole part or just the gaskets how do i know that the oil cooler still good?
You can replace the gasket inside the cooler. The oil cooler is made of of 2 different pieces. 4 bolts secure it if I remember correctly. Well if it's leaking between there, then you can replace the gasket that goes in there. Only way to know is if you power wash all the oil away and then after it dries, start the car up and see where the oil drip comes from.
Where did you put the jack to lift the car from the front? I cant find anywhere some info on how to do that
Look for solid frame. The frame which holds all the suspension together that also is carrying the engine and transmission. The frame is thicker than the rest of the metal you see underneath and is safe to lift from there. And always keep an eye when lifting that you are not bending the metal where you are lifting it from. If you are bending it then that is a clear sign that you shouldn't lift from there. Stay safe and use jack stands.
Try to look closely on the video so you can get an idea on where to lift from
I think i might have the situation i have a 2012 altima nd when its running it makes a weird noice you think it can be related to the oil cooler
This is mainly related to oil leakage. I highly doubt you would be experiencing any noise unless you have a terrible leak to where you are experiencing engine noise
Under the engine doesn't happen all the time every here nd there when the car has been running for a while
@@onzoramirez3410 might want to have a mechanic give you an opinion on what the problem may be. But you shouldn't hear noise in relation to this unless you ran the motor dry of almost no oil in it
Not trying to be a negative nancy here, but it kinda looks like this only needed the gasket/o-ring replaced inside the cooler. I just did this to mine and it was $12

Yes you can, however the complete unit is very inexpensive which is why we decided to change the complete part
I have a 2010 altima s sedan. The dealer is $560 for the part. Rockauto has one for $40 & another for $400. Most local parts stores want $400 or more as well. Where can I get a decent quality oil cooler that isnt so expensive??

If engine oil temp is higher than normal then cooler is bad, coolers usually never go bad. But if you're already there might aswell just replace it, not that much more in cost. If its a leak then its just the gasket

Nope. No need. The cooler sits higher than the pan so oil doesn't spill.
Hey just a heads up, you didn’t need to replace the whole cooler, you could have taken the four bolts off the top of the cooler and just replaced the rubber gasket

Great video great work nissan wanted a ton of money to replace the cooler said it was cracked a friend took it out watching your video did not have any cracks but we replaced it off amazon $47,00 nissan wanted 50.00 dollars for the gasket got it for 8 bucks thanks man your helping people repair there car problems and saving them from rip off artist you rock dude...
Another dumb question is are they failing due to poorly constructed gaskets or are these bolts that hold it in loosening over time. Or are they blown out like headgaskets? Anyone feel free to comment.
I ask is my brothers engine seized and I may attempt to free up the pistons and if tightening is a solution ill go with that. As really don't want to pour cash into this if this engine is toast. But stopping the oil leak would be the end solution if I resurrect it.
They fail over time just like any gaskets basically yes. Just the nature of things, time takes its tole.
@@onlyme8870 oh man, if the engine locked up its locked up and will need new bearings for sure and crank resurfaced more than likely so you may be better off with a junk yard replacement

WHY YOU CHANGE THE COMPLETE OIL COOLER? WHEN IT IS A SIMPLE RUBBER SEAL ,THAT IS FOR PROBLE $20 BUCK FOR THE SEALS. ARE YOU A RAL MECHANIC... ? I DID THESE OIL COOLER MANY TIMES. ..THE ORIGINAL SEAL WAS RED WAS NOT GOOD NISSAN DEFECTIVE.
