Controversial opinion, but for a long time this was my favorite game in the series. SH2 Remake has finally made SH2 my favorite, but this one always scared me more. It's different, but I love it. I hope you find stuff to like here as well.
Yeah that is so silent hill's character reaction on that kind of situation it's like a cannon at least until this game despite heather in sh3 she was the most feet on earth of them imo.
@@Dani-x01 I remember that in the game Mortal kombat Shaolin Monks, Kung-lao asks a guy if he's okay after having his body pierced with a sword several times 😂. By the way, Heather is the best main character in the entire saga 👌

SH4 while having a few issues here and there genuinely has one of the most interesting stories in the franchise and gets more flack than it deserves. Hope you enjoy this playthrough SH4 is a very fun ride
Julia's first major SH4 jumpscare... THE SAVE POINT! :) This game has some flaws regarding game mechanics and level choices, etc... but... it's an AMAZING game! It's very different than other games. It's a bizarre story yet very SH'ish. It was way ahead of it's time. The GOG version on PC is fine (they updated it to fix some things). What I did, was use a controller for 3rd person parts.... and mouse / keyboard for the first person apartment parts. There is a control to instantly snap your view behind henry so that if you can't see in front of yourself, press that (kind of like how zelda 3rd person games work). The "ghosts" can't be killed at all (more on that later in the game)... so it's best to run away from them as they do drain your life. However, when you return to your apartment, it will slowly refill your health automatically. :) It's good that you are checking everything in the apartment when you go back. You never know what you'll see... especially later on. I think you'll really like this one. Looks like you are enjoying it already. You are so fun!
This is the first Silent Hill game I played. Even with its flaws, it made me fall in love with the Silent Hill game series enough to go out, seek, and buy the previous three games. Love the music and overall feel and story.
So happy to see Silent Hill 4 getting some love! I feel like this one gets overlooked so often. Quick recommendation: You mentioned you enjoy watching movies that correspond with the games you're playing. This would be a perfect time to check out Hitchcock's "Rear Window". That movie was a big influence on certain aspects of this game, especially the "people watching."
A lot of people will rail on this game for all it's faults.. I still think it's the creepiest game in the series in terms of the vision it's trying to portray.. does it nail it? Not really, but I respect it none the less. Oh, and yeah.. canonically the Superintendent is James Sunderland's (SH2) father.
34:49- oh sure, James has to blindly jump down into dark pits of unspeakable evil, but Henry gets a freaking escalator ride!! Silent Hill showing blatant favoritism ... 55:24 - as a woman, i too constantly worry about the whereabouts of my broom. I also definitely keep my broom in my bedroom.
when this game came out.if you pre ordered from certain game stores, you got a bonus soundtrack disk with this games music. i still to this day have that music (now on my computer) and in my playlist
SH4 has its quirks, but imho it has the visuals and sound design that really stick with me. There were so many different unforgettable moments in this game for me, I hope you enjoy it! Can’t wait to see more!
I only played this game once, and I never played this game again. This game is the most creepiest and scariest amongs the other 3, this gave me chills to the bones. If looking for horror games this is it.
Would love to see them remake this and improve upon the ghosts enemies which is for me the downside of the game. This is actually the scariest and funniest (the enemies falling down the stairs and the enemies sound when getting hit)...Henry could use a bit of personality and Eileen is actually the cutest of the SH girls but has the annoying escort mission. The actual room hauntings in first person could be scary if done correctly. Walter Sullivan will be the first real chasing antagonist.
This is the last one i ever watched my mom play so this is so nostalgic... also that makes it sound like she's 💀 she just doesn't like video games anymore😂
I'm happy to see all the SH4 love here. This is the only SH game I find scary. I know it's janky, but this game is amazing. That said, it would benefit the most from a remake
From SH 1-3, the name Walter Sullivan kept popping up. At first i thought that was just a horrendous lore story that the developers created to scare the players, nothing important added to each main story, but SH4 has finally answered the question by connecting all the Sullivan lores together. Now come to think of it, SH4 is kinda important.
Yep, I'm surprised she didn't immediately recognize name after just playing silent hill 2 remake, since he's 4th gravestone there. The 4th sinner of silent hill 2
Dahlia. Referred to as a young woman. And the red devil, I dont know if in SH2 remake they showed the Red Devil; man in a painting, wearing a hooded mask with a red cross, holding a spear. Not to be confused with Pyramid Head. Is the very first ghost met. (Game doesnt explicitly reveal, its supplemental).
So, yes. Ghosts can hurt you by simply being around you, causing headaches. You can recover headache damage by simply getting away from them for a short bit. You also heal by going back to your room without consuming items.
I heard there’s a desire for this game to be remade next not SH1 or 3 and I think based on what I read, that’s a much better route to bring in new players because if I’m not mistaken this entry is sort of a standalone ish similar to 2.
Interesting; so while you started with 1, you've played 2 and now 4 (chronological order 2, 4, 1, 3). Good choice. Full order below. (Full chronological order: Forté (unreleased, 1950s), 2 (early 1980s), Origins (mid-1980s), 4 (mid-1980s), 1/Arcade (1990s, take place within a few years of each other), 3/Shattered Memories (sh1/3 alt) (early 2000s), Homecoming (early 2000s, don't rely on the timeline Alex gives in the manual; Team Silent's members have ferverantly denied its accuracy; it's a good game but it relies too much on movie lore), Downpour (mid-2000s), A Short Message (2021). There isn't enough information on Townfall to place it on the timeline. A Short Message has a lot of information tying to the first four games and the many hospital notes, but its main story isn't directly tied.
I'm also replaying this game atm after all these years, played it when it came out and still love it! 🥰hope you'll play SH 1 and 3 too. Oh, and small tip: you can open the map directly by pressing M, no need to bring up the menu for it.
Honestly playing this before 2 and 3 is smart because it is a drop in quality despite the things it does well. It won’t seem as rough by comparison in this order.
I don't hate SH4 but I never got why people love this. I'm glad Team Silent did something very different with The Room and as most people I do think the concept is good but executed very poorly. Story is alright but Henry is such a bland character and his voice acting probably the worst in the franchise. Soundtrack is great as always but everything else... the controls, gameplay, even the graphics are such a backstep after Silent Hill 3 and I never liked playing it. I guess it would have been received way better if there were no Silent Hill 1-3 to compare it to. I'm excited to hear your thoughts though Julia and also actually excited if they decide to remake this after 1 and 3 because this could be such an awesome game if they improve the characters, the gameplay and storytelling.
Director for this one was a "you engage as much as you decide to" sort of gamer. Dang near everything is missable, and most of Henry's introverted personality is in text comments on things he investigates, especially the same things over and over as time moves on.
Ok this is sick Halloween surprise Julia. Thanks for the concise explanation on why you chose this title to play out of order. I love everything the first half of this game came up with. I have a love-hate relationship with this game. Story of SH4 is really interesting, has some unique mechanics, and is the most creepy game in the series, but you really have to be patient all the time because this game loves to punish you every way and so many unfair scenarios, tedious level design, even if you know how the game works.
