  • Reviving a long gone era of the NYC subway using OpenBVE, a simple train simulator game...
I was recently going through my PC and came across some old BVE videos that I had completely forgotten about.
Amongst them was this long film that I made back in 2018, showcasing the 1970s IND 8th Avenue Line I was working on at the time.
It would have been similar to my well known 1988 Railfanning video that I made back in 2019, except it would have only taken place along the 8th Avenue & Rockaway Lines.
It starts in Washington Heights, then continues down 8th Avenue where I abandoned the project halfway through.
At the time, I was still fairly new at developing. I was mostly doing retexturing work and a bit of sloppy modeling. Most train models seen in the film were made by William Hila, then known as BVEMudwreslte.
It was also back when I had started updating his old R42 model, which can be seen in the film as well.
I have edited out approx 10 minutes of most boring $hit, included some side by side flicks with my newest R10 thru R44 models to compare with the old ones, and decided to upload this despite it being dusty and unfinished.
It was also supposed to be my very first UA-cam video on OpenBVE, had I finished it.
The development of the route has also been abandoned since.
    Enjoy!

Between 2018 and 2024, OpenBVE has certainly improved in realism.

A great video of the 8th Avenue line, back in 1973. Especially, with all the different types of subway cars from the R10s to the R44s. I still remember it from 1973. I was 9 years old.

😱😃😃👍👍 You nailed it!! The 70’s are when I rode the Subway the most as a teen. Would get on at 175 and for the most part went to Rockefeller Center. Love the original Unimark platform signs and the mix of the old and new signs. Blew me away with the incandescent lights @ 96 St!!! Still looking to see if you have any orange bannisters ( there were many around until painted yellow).
19:22 OMG!! Early 70s period perfect Chiffon Margarin Mother Nature ad!!!!! BTW - The Mother Nature actress was the female narrator on WDW’s Epcot Horizons!!
