Good video
This additive and gumout direct injection cleaner
Thanks
Good
Where did you buy this deep clean gdi cleaner from
I just did this Sunday for my daughter's 2019 Elantra. Man, after the check engine light, the shaking, loss of power, smoke, transmission not wanting to shift, I was sitting in the passenger seat like " how much is this going to cost me?" After restarting, the CEL went away and so did everything else. Car runs brand new.
cel went away on its own??? amazing stuff
@@robertduklus6555 it was blinking while running. Restarting smoothed everything out, cel stopped blinking, was not on.
Don't spray through the mass flow, spray through the break booster hose it works on vacuum.
On many cars it wont cover all the valves.. not even all cylinders in some cases
Hyundai don’t have a mass air flow so going that route is fine 👍
It sucks some cars like my vw have a separate pump for break booster doesn't even come from engine vacuume yes break booster is a good spot but some cars now it's not a option because it doesn't go to intake in some cars now
Can't you do it from the pcv valve?
@@TheForteGt yup. Works just fine
Than you for the video.
UPDATE: I followed your video and applied the CRC bottle instead of the Lucas one into my wife's 2015 Kia Rio EX. With 90.000 Miles. Lots of smoke came out of the engine when entering into the freeway traffic to removed the product from the engine. I did not have any codes or troubles after application. Very happy with your video. I appreciated. New Subscriber. Thanks again.
Crc says you have to take the map sensors off the Hyundai’s, is this the case?
Would like to see someone take 2 new GDI engines and 1 with this technique additives for 20,000 miles and the other with this technique done every 5,000 miles. We need to find that sweet number to keep these engines running.
What was the one small problem? I didn't catch that part.
The MIL status
@@jellybean8071 malfunction indicator light or check engine light
I remember asking you to test this product after seeing the Gumout Intake Cleaner vid you made. Thanks for this. Great work
Thank you for watching
Nate, 1) thank you. 2) Do you have any pictures of the valves 1,000 miles after treatment?
A couple more treatments would have the valves and ports looking like new.
I don't think it was so much the product but the process. You have to soak all that carbon with whatever product you use. Then heat it up to release the carbon(just my opinion)
Yes i understand thanks for sharing
maurice davis I’ve heard and read the same. After pre soaking the valves run the car with no fear up to highway speeds. For about 15-20 minutes haven’t done this myself but will soon. My lady drives a car with GDI.
Is it danger do this job to a car with 155 K miles that never have done this ?
why do you say dont use it if it shows the best results?
I used about 20 bottles one after the other. Use this before I was going to get a new catalytic convertor.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
i have a 2016 chevy silverado 1500 with a 5.3 v8, i put about half a quart of mystery oil in the gas tank once a year, live in florida, i alternate between the highest octane and lowest every other fill up of gas, we have ethanol in our gas down here with only a few places selling non ethanol gas, i even add 8 ounces to my oil at each oil change, i grew up on marvel mystery oil,,
Thanks to you I'll do this to my car instead of paying 100 bucks on my local dealership. Thanks from Mexico! 🌮
Thank god you are in Mexico. In the USA, it is over $200 easy...😂
So, what is/are the OBD-II trouble code(s) and how badly is the catalytic converter clogged after the intake valve cleaning?
The code will read cylinder misfire
I did not hear Nate talk at all about the cat converter? What is the issue with the cat after a cleaning?
I think you would have had better results if you followed the instructions correctly. That is, just bursts of spray, rather than continious spray which just soaked the valves and stalled your engine. You should redo this again with instructions followed. BTW looks like out of them so far CCR worked best over Lucas and seafoam. Thanks for these vids! , CHEERS!
I used CRC on my wife's 2015 Kia Rio. It runs well and did not have any troubles using as instructed
I'd almost want something to make it chug out and quit ,and leave it soaking for a few minutes.
Still haven't found anything that really eliminates an intake removal and cleaning, it's gonna have to be done sooner or later.
can’t do a constant spray, theres a reason they recommend short bursts. If you was to constant spray it could hydro-lock the engine
@@ZammianX you could literally shove a garden hose down the intake and not hydrolock it, ask me how I know
@@MrTheHillfolk 😂😂
gdi engine tho? if so impressive bc they’re fragile to certain things like this
Will the carbon harm the catalytic converter
There's a risk that carbon could flake off a valve even without using a cleaner. The cleaner is supposed to dissolve the carbon so it runs through the engine and doesn't harm it. But really bad carbon buildup is probably safer to remove using something like walnut shell blasting.
I have watched 3 different videos using three different products now, and they are all on the same car! also the before and after results seem to be the same every time, look at valve 3 before and it is identical with the valves in all the other videos. whats going on here?
dude, there is an observable difference between them, there are no identical ones
I'd immediately use another can just to see if even more could be removed. Looks like it did a good job. Might try some ATP Automotive AT-100 Blast, Complete Intake System Cleaner in a future video, except go through a vacuum line into the intake and check the results for this one. Great job dude...
At100 blast shown a few weeks ago
Thanks i really appreciate you and yes correct i recently tried at100
Thanks for answering
@@NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO Oh ok, I missed that one. I'll have to check that one out.
Yeah more ideas let us know
As a mechanic do you recommend using this every 5000 miles to keep them clean or is that overkill? How many miles was on the vehicle you treated?
Use this as much as you need to, won’t hurt it. Just don’t go crazy spraying tons of bottles everyday. Maybe once every couple of weeks or multiples times a month
@@axelG777 should I continue to run the car or change oil out? Will this stuff dilute good oil? I see forums say use it before an oil change. Some say they run the car a few hundred more miles before changing the oil, your thoughts? Thanks.
@@unitedwestanddividedwefall3521 I don’t think this will dilute any oil unless you have any internal leaks. By this I mean; if you burn oil, this cleaner could come in contact with the open space inside the engine. If your valve seals are leaking oil, this could contaminate the oil a little bit. But should be no problem if you do the oil change immediately. You see what I’m saying? This cleaner is ideal for cleaning valves and carbon deposits. Basically the whole combustion chamber. It should not matter whether you use it before your oil change or not. I used it a lot I never had any problems. This is what I think
Most effective by far.. So impressive reults.. Bare metal can be seen now..
Yes finally some results unfortunately a test again to be fair to the next cleaner may take many miles but i have many long trips scheduled work
So far this lucas deep clean is the best.. Hope the next cleaner can match this.. Is the check engine light came off after shake out drive? Must be oxygen sensor does it's reading..
Yes light is off cleared and not came back on
I started using Lucas GDI cleaner every 10,000 miles once my 2016 Kia Sorento hit 55,000. Got to over 101,000 and still ran like new (got hit and totaled the car recently unfortunately). This stuff is the best on the market for DIY.
Lucas always makes the best products
Good experience?
Windy your lucky you did not hydraulically lock up that engine, Keep it Going As Experiment interesting.GOOD JOB
I know some kia and Hyundai motors are the same. A 2018 kia optima lx had a MAP sensor bolted to the intake manifold. Must the MAP sensor be removed first?
Is this the same Hyundai in all your GDI cleaning videos? Why does that Hyundai get so dirty so quicky.
These videos are on different cars and the videos are yet filmed different times but this is why i chose the vehicle for the test
With such good results why does the thumbnail to the video say "don't use"? Very confusing.
question. what do you think about doing this a few times maybe? like every oil change for say 3 changes
There was definitely a difference.! A significant amount of carbon build up has been removed.! Since this process provided results, why not repeat the process about 3 or 4 more times.?
I'm so old school that we used to use water vapor to clean up the intake valves. It does the job if you just must it in.
I had a TDI swapped into a rabbit and made mechanical injection.
Part of the pep in it's step came from water injection.
Being I wasn't running an intercooler ,I grabbed a VW washer bottle with pump already installed ,some copper gauge line and a couple old carb jets.
I set it up to blow right into the turbo and went for a ride and brought tools.
I'd stop and drill the jet out more until it didn't like it ,and drilled the spare one out accordingly.
Worked like a dream, when I lifted the head off 30k later it just had a light blackish coating instead of layered carbon.
Doesnt really look like the valve seat is cleaned enough to make a difference. Probably have to do this multiple times over a period of time
when does the carbon goes after the clean??? its damage engine//ciylinder?
Best cleaner seen
I dont like to give my opinion to promote a product but it was one of the best
Your also supposed to change the oil after this, all that carbon typically ends up In the oil reservoir so it’s good to flush it out and keep things clean.
In theory this stuff shouldn't mix with the oil right? It just goes to the valves and combustion chambers.
@@jpete3027666 in theory yes but i wouldn't be surprised if a little bit of the product made its way down. The main concern here is that these highly refined alcohols/petroleum products act as catalyzers for chain branching with the carbon residue to encourage the radicals to free and to break down larger molecules into smaller ones. the oil that seeps outa your cylinders and into the crank case definitely carries off some of the residue carbon and possibly some of the fluid, I wouldn't expect it to really be that much of the cleaner making its way down and because its also a carbon based it should mix pretty evenly with your oil and be on no concern. oil filters act primarily as filters for solid debris and not chemicals because your simply trying to not let smaller non oil particles through which can cause friction where the oil is supposed to lubricated. btw im just a novice whos worked on a couple cars and trucks but i did take a 400/intro grad combustion class in college for engines so I understand the basics of particle size requirements for mixed reactions, how oils density's affects how its not meant to burn but lubricate(some of it is bound to burn), then also the basics for cooling engines and how it works. so
So what made the recent video different, seemed to clean more. Just cause the lucas sponsored it? Gave your opinion and said works but a year earlier you said this
dude! great pictures! what camera are you using to look down in the intake valve?
I don't know about what are good Brands of cameras (Bore Scopes) but Harbor Freight sells them and Amazon too with a easy Return Policy if it doesn't work.
wont this carbon go down and settle in the exhaust, like catalytic converters?
It’s plausible that it will damage the catalytic converter(s)
yeah, confirms what I thought- You need to do it 3-6 times. @ $13-16/can
or you just do it once every 10k miles and never let this happen.
$30-$40 to clean the carbon off your neglected valves just by spraying a product into the intake sounds like a pretty good deal to me. Especially if you use it before it gets this bad. That’s $13 you spend once maybe twice a year to keep your valves clean without any real effort. I’d say that’s pretty cheap.
Spray past the Mass Airflow Sensor means to put the straw past the sensor so you avoid getting the stuff on the sensor. Not Spray the stuff so it passes the sensor.
What happens if you spray the sensor? I couldn’t find it and I sprayed through there. Now my average MPG has dropped big time. Not sure if it’s the sensor or something else.
Apologies mic & wind problems
I wish they had this and gumout in Canada. All we have is seafoam and crc
We don't have neither of those you mentioned in my country. Cheap alternatives. Had to order them from outside
CRC is good, it works well.
Seafoam is good too.
Even in Canada, you still have Wal Mart stores, and it's an American establishment, so give a try there, they could have it.
Crc and Seafoam is from the U.S. as well, from what I can remember.
Thank you Nate for this vid , this method seems to work WELL !!! Also 18-1900 RPM seems to work better .
Thanks for watching
Very good video. 👍🏻 I was at autozone today checking the same product. I am not a mechanic but I have hyundai 2020 palisade which has GDI.
The first ingredient listed in the stp GDI spray is xylene. aka dimethyl benzene. it's a nasty solvent. At low temperature it works as metal cleaner. if we spray this on the hot engine intake it breaks down in carbon deposit itself. it has 8 carbon per molecule of xylene.
This is more like STP question, what is the optimal temperature for the xylene to dissolve the carbon buildup?
Id say hot operating temp will do best and also keep liquid from sitting around too long in the valvetrain. 100% recommend Cataclean after for the cats!
That's why I don't like the newer non chlorinated brake cleaners, they always have something flammable in them.
I'm worried about a chunk or chunks of carbon going into the combustion chamber and causing damage
onenikkione
Do this every 5,000 miles and there should not be a lot of carbon build up to worry about
It’s like a little crispy bacon bits don’t worry it won’t hurt anything
Cool video! So, which one of the cleaners do you recommend more: CRC or Lukas?
They are both good cleaners check my recent best intake valve cleaner video.
My local Ford dealer quoted me $678.00 to do this and change my spark plugs. I'm not impressed with this demo, but I don't know much about engines.
That worked pretty good considering all the gunk Nate.
Yeah totally
Is Lucas or CRC better?
It made my engine race to 3,000rpms and above until I stopped spraying and created a vacuum with my thumb again. Any ideas?
you are supposed to add the spray through the brake booster vacuum hose. the gdi system sprays gasoline after the valves. whatch some other videos. thats why gdi systems build up so much carbon
I assume continuous spraying could allow pooling and cause possible issues.
Really like to do my 70,000mls 2008 cayenne but am worried about the crap blocking the cats up....... 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Best results ive seen so far!
Agreed very good results i dont like to give opinion to promote but the product did well
Does your caddy from 07 have direct injection cwizzy?
AwesomenessIskey probably just port fuel injection v8 powa
Dude any improvement helps. At least we found something that actually works.
How does it reach the intake valve if you spray it in the intake on a gdi engine???
The airflow carries and distributes the product though out the intake system. Cleaning the throttle body, intake manifold and intake valves. Excess product is burned off in the combustion chamber.
The air intake flows over the intake valves
Man can’t you vapor lock your engine putting that much! Lol
C'mon man you have been using all that supposed cleaner on the same car and the valves are still dirty. Proof that the shit don't work! Who ya foolin?
I have a new Chevy 3.6l DI engine, to prevent problems when should I do this cleaning as a preventative maintenance? Every 30,000
Maybe try a mix of 2 parts acetone , 1 part xylene (xylol)and 1 part two stroke oil. Use this mix 3oz per 10 gal fuel in a non gdi engine.
Or mix up quantity and use,in a gdi engine sprayed into intake?
Have you tried this?
Yes. I've been running the mix im my 2011 5.3 Sierra for about 8 tank fulls now. No ill effects .However I don't have a boroscope to.look at the valves.
Both acetone and xylene are very high octane. I suspect both are powerful solvents too.
I need your ideas much appreciated
Thank You.
I know this is a very old comment, but nothing in your fuel goes over your intake valves in a GDI engine.
Watch Scotty kilmers vid on how to use .
Stuff works great been using it since it came out.
Coolio
What oil are you using oil plays a big role in how much carbon buildup you get in the first place I'm just curious
GDI should be using a Full Synthetic Oil to reduce the carbon build up
Oil Catch Can! Engine is screaming for one
Crc gdi valve cleaner is best on the market
Using this product should be regularly from day one of the car , it will be useful and haven't any build up carbon . 😉
Hello, kann mann es verwenden auch turbo Motoren? Wie bei audi 2.0 tfsi?
It isn't signfecant to fix the issue
Finding a solution for carbon is important for some cars but not all. But a cleaning annually can yield good results.
Hey, where do you insert the borescope to look at the valves? What's the easiest way?
Spark plug wells
@@henrybautista5303 thanks, however, I thought the GDI engine has the valves accessible through the intake manifold?
I would wait a day and do another one
It’s late and it’s the first video of yours I’ve seen. But I heard multi use sea foam cleaner works good on gdi. I’m sure mine is black as coal
Seafoam does work but the CRC GDI and Turbo cleaner is more effective. If you check the prices on the various products you can decide a budget and a schedule for using each and perhaps find a favorite {but if it is overdue} I would start with the CRC and work my way down to cheaper things from there.
Pretty convincing that Lucas works.
Where's the "after" pics?
Look like the moon surface. You will need like all 3 brands back to back.
My mechanic says this does a number on the catalytic converter
Sea foam deep creep says to spray continuously so what’s the difference
More than likely water content. Seafoam is a petroleum product. Lucas might have a higher water conent.
Is it okay to use on a turbo TGDI
Most effective I've saw
Yes
How did you get the Boroscope in there to see the valves?
Gotta remove the air intake manifold i would guess. I believe GDI engines the only way to look at the valves is by removing the air intake itself unlike port injection motors.
Don't think did much
Lucas and seafoam the best
Interesting
I would still like to see what Gas Kicker would clean from the piston tops.
Yes i would Also
Thanks. Always something to learn. 🧐
Mileage of your car before the cleaning?
When he showed the interior of the car, you can see that it was 101.471K miles.
Heavy deposits removed
True
You need to use this a lot to see true results. I used it every oil change 3,000 miles but it took about 1.5 years to see really good results.
Well would multiple treatments help? Or best to remove intake manifold and scrub in there?
Just follow manufacturer's instructions and if you have extremely bad buildup and you use the cleaner just look at your valves after.
wont the carbon damage your turbo as it goes it the exhaust
It also cleans the turbo
I'd be interested in seeing amsoil power foam results
Yes check out my video i used amsoil power foam.
@@NATESINTERACTIVEAUTO sorry. I missed it. Didn't see results
its been said if you flood it you can hydro-lock the engine.
You'd literally have to drive in a pond.
Even a full blast garden hose at some higher rpms isn't gonna do it.
Can you use more than 1 can at a time?
Do you use the same car everytime ?
What was the code or codes?
I cracked up when he did the close up on the throttle body🤣
That "constant" spraying he did, what did that screw up? He didn't even say 1) if the car cranked up after dying and 2) how it runs after cleaning.
Great vid thanks.
