I used to listen to this over and over when I was young and finally got a job delivering news papers to earn $$ and bought my first electric guitar at a pawn shop. Since I was a self-taught beginner and playing by ear, I wasn't good enough to pick up the lead intro or solo. It's all coming together now, thanks to you. The sound mix on the album is among the best I've ever heard. Thanks man.

Love your playing, You ROCK! Its just hard to follow along. If there was a Tab Chart below to follow your finger positioning, pull offs, bends and slides.
Good lesson. I am a huge GFR fan and having seen them 4 times and Mark Farner Solo at least 15, you are playing the leads an octave too low. But even so a great lesson.
Been playing guitar for 30 plus years and have watch numerous guitar training videos and yours is very simple to understand and follow. American Band is one of those classic 70's rock songs that will live on forever. One question. What are you using to get that compression/sustain out of your guitar. It has a great sound..
Oddly, being as Aussie, I have never heard this song! (Maybe NOT oddly at all!) I don't think GFR were ever played on radio here. Prob weren't commercial enough! I know they did rock however.
Guitar Control YES! Went & checked out a few of their vids after. Some of their songs were familiar to me. Maybe I'd heard them but didn't know WHO did them!
Is it just me or is guitar going away from popular music today? Not the base so much but lead and Rhythm guitar? Also, what are your thoughts on Mark Farner as a Guitarist?
If he's teaching a guitar lesson it should be correct. Would you pay to take lessons from Hendrix but have him show you the wrong way to play Purple Haze?
On the chorus why didn't you use the suspended chords that he's doing ? I've been a professional musician for a long time and If I came into rehearsal and didn't include the suspended chords in the chorus section I would have been jumped all over! On a positive note ,your hair You Look Alot Like Mark Farner did in the seventies! IF You get a chance watch the 1974 LA Performance of Grand Funk, the energy level unbelievable blows away anything in the world of no retarded music the masses listen to today. I've been a professional musicians for almost 40 years ,I used to play in bands that played seven nights a week you'd have to be spot-on every night, and do everything correct and consistent especially Harmony's .Most bands can't do vocal harmonies , in the sixties and seventiesm people could sing their ass off. Also there were tons of places to play back then, there aren't any more places to play ,mainly because people are too busy staying at home doing drugs, instead of going the other reason there are no places to play is because we live in Nazi police state ,people are afraid to go out! Bands are nowhere as good as they were back in the 70s! Look at bands like Jethro Tull, yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer, absolutely blow the little punks away who play in bands today ,the grunge bands ,the Indies bands, all that's a joke! You can take the top bands of today with the best guitar players in the world and they couldn't handle playing in the band like Jethro Tull, with its great guitar player Martin Barre , who is the most underrated guitar player of all time! The stuff that they did the complexity of the music ,the tightness and Ensemble playing ,is something that the little retarded Indie musicians up today can't even do. Stupid Bands like Coldplay are a joke! There is no more inspiration in today's music at all ,musicians aren't allowed to be creative ,because it's all controlled by insurance companies ,corporations ,trusts ,attorneys and other subspecies of human beings , that have no business being involved in the business at all! But not only that, the IQs of audiences has drastically dropped, audiences aren't capable of sitting back and listening to bands like Emerson Lake and palmer from the 70s ,because stupid American audiences only have a 7.5 second attention span! Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull says he hates playing in the United Snakes because right in the middle of great pieces of music like thick as a brick ,stupid US citizens are getting up buying hot dogs and beers, playing with their cell telephones and doing whatever it is that a dumbed down retarded population does. music is so bad that even young people say it's bad and their iPods all have our music from the past in it! your hair looks great but you could never make it in the seventies my friend sorry guitar players are like a dime a dozen today guitar player like Steve Howe!

Dude, you have a great tone coming out of that Tele. What is the Tele and what are you playing through? Pedal? Really digging the tone!!!! Jeff
I don't understand why anyone would put a thumbs down, Rob is a good guitar player and teacher.
Muy bueno!
Good lesson. I am a huge GFR fan and having seen them 4 times and Mark Farner Solo at least 15, you are playing the leads an octave too low. But even so a great lesson.
You are missing some bends in the solo. Listen carefully to what Farner is doing.
Phaser and Fuzz for the Intro and Solo?
Great lesson and sweet guitar!! What amp and effects are you running?
Thank you

I truly hope that red thing in the back left isn’t a fan
musikcraft messenger
You left out the F in the chorus. Dddddd. CcccccFfffff. Bflat Cccc Ddddd. No one ever puts that in. But it’s the way Mark does it.
How many spammers are you hooked up with? Warning, do not give this guy your email address!
That string of triplets in that solo is wrong.
Great job.
Lou Paul go fuck yourself and your perfection the dude is trying and you gotta hate on a certain hammer on ? who the fuck to you play for ? noone
If he's teaching a guitar lesson it should be correct. Would you pay to take lessons from Hendrix but have him show you the wrong way to play Purple Haze?
@@ZackSeifMusic Hendrix never performed the same solo twice. It's all relative.
D.J. Ashley there would be no point in the lesson then if we’re all just improvising
