RIP Malcolm Mitchell Young 1953-2017 my hero & the reason why I started my guitarcheology study in learning to kill a guitar in 1978 & still snap strings all day. Rolling Stone Magazine asked passenger Keith Richards; "what is it like being the greatest rhythm rock guitarist ever?" "I dunno?' replied Richards 'you'd better ask Malcolm Young." @@chrissydshow9928 Thanx & ALL true! Mal was the BEST rock rhythm player, end of argument, he just kicked arse 100% epitomised rock & roll physically musically & psychologically. He wanted AC/DC to rule the world & knew it was a good chance of doing so with George & Harry Vanda's help, brother Angus (with the silent "G" as he says! cheeky bastard!) playing no small role. With leering Bon's showmanship & Phil Rudd's back beat wizardry AC/DC couldn't have failed to be worldbeaters in any era. Malcolm Young was a virtuoso guitarist - a teen prodigy & played live in front of 100,000 packed outside the Sydney Opera House aged 17 years before AC/DC were a household name - on Stevie Wright's amazing rendition of 'Evie', nothing phased Mal, ever. Class, and don't get him pissed-off, unless u are sick of living, ffs!.. just atomic mind-shattering rock riffs from the GOAT. Harry Vanda gave him his Gretsch 'The Beast' DC Electromatic Jet when he saw his outrageous potential as a teen. "Here was this lad, George's brother Mal, who didn't have a decent guitar but there was nothing I or George (Young, elder brother & Easybeats star) could teach Mal - he was always just a shithot guitarist" - said Vanda. Peace, respect & for those about to rock I salute you!
Main point: Agreed...AC/DC have always perfectly balanced the rock-solid rhythm foundation (Malcolm and Co.) with the showmanship of Bon (then Brian) and Angus. 🤘 Side point: Also agreed..."The licking doesn't actually contribute anything musically per se..." 😀
Retired and loving ACDC! I enjoy looking into dynamics of Malcolm. He is the best!

Wow. I didn't know about that quote. What a huge compliment from a man who inspired Malcolm in the first place.

I learned all my rhythm guitar from Malcolm and Lennon. Both had unique muting and rhythm playing.
