The Greatest Singer of all Time?

- Опубліковано 30 вер 2024
- Meet Floor Jansen. The greatest singer of her generation and arguably one of the greatest singers of all time.
Today Floor sings in a Finnish symphonic metal band called 'Nightwish', but has taken part in many other bands and solo projects over her 20 year career.
Thanks for the love on the video guys! I want to say 1 thing because I see people are constantly arguing in the comments. The truth is there is no objective 'BEST SINGER in the World. Floor is not the certified best. Dimash is not the best, nor anyone else. Music is subjective. For me, Floor is the most complete singer I have ever heard but that is just my opinion. Also, those saying I am comparing Floor to Maria Callas' opera singing...no I'm not. Obviously, dedicated opera singers are better at opera. Floor's gift to the world is being able to sing almost anything at a high level (this girl could sing a Chinese phonebook and make it sound good) and her incredible stage/emotive performances. You don't have to agree that's she's the best, but please try to avoid hate and the silly comments. Thanks!
With all due respect: I honestly don't understand why people make such videos at all. I mean in many cases they do it for the sake of provocation and views. But why do you then complain afterwards about the complaints? :) It's just logical that people complain. I really don't understand why people make such videos
a) It doesn't even make any sense to call someone "the greatest" as there is no scientific model to evaluate that. Such things are subjective.
b) It's always a provocation. It really is. And especially having Maria Callas in the thumbnail/video who's an icon of flawless vocal technique and belongs to a completely different genre is intentionally highly provocative. Luckily classical music lovers are usually not watching such YT videos, otherwise the comment section would be full with extreme negativity of opera fans who feel attacked and insulted
c) Such things should generally not be done, and especially not by someone who doesn't have a degree in vocal pedagogy. And with all due respect: You apparently haven't. Otherwise, you wouldn't believe that you can call someone the objectively "greates" and especially: you wouldn't say it about Floor. Floor is very talented and she's also versatile and iconic in some certainw ay, but she has way too many technical flaws to consider her among the very best technique-wise. And you can't call someone "the greatest" who doesn't have flawless vocal technique. With all due respect: That doesn't make sense
@asdas saddasd then what you thinkis wrong. You can't say that a singer is better than hundreds of others with a way better technique
@@diversisanimaliaformis4256I have to agree with asdas, technique is a help not a measure. So claming someone is the best singer due to theyre technique is a big miss. thats like saying 1 that knows how to read is a better storyteller then 1 who hasent learned how to read.
@@diversisanimaliaformis4256 Exactly as they all said.
Perfect technique along doesn't say everything. Plus that's perfect technique most probably in specific things like classical and opera. But it's not the only way of vocalizing.
And not only that but irregardless she has a great set of technique and strong baseline structure. Without those things she would be nothing compared to what she is today.
And she can do many things that others with"better technique"could never do.
@@diversisanimaliaformis4256 I feel very sorry for you that you feel this way. I think you don't understand that music is about more than just technique. Believing that I or anyone else needs a degree in 'vocal pedagogy' to have a strong opinion about music is very misguided indeed. You and everyone else is welcome to have whatever opinion you want. Also fun fact for you my friend as you seem to talk a lot about technique: Maria was known not to have perfect technique. It was everything else about her that made her so special despite other Sopranos having superior technique. For my money, Maria was the greatest Soprano of all, but her technique was far from perfect when compared to many of her peers, even if her performances overall were superior.
When I hear her in the finale of 'Shoemaker' tears roll over my cheeks, each and every time I listen to it. And I'm a 6'4" 'tough' 66 year old guy.
You should check folk songs ... A bit serious folk songs ... They are crazily powerfully emotional
Yes, that was so lovely! Tears for me also.
She can sing the BBC News and you will cry.
Floor Jansen is without doubt the musical discovery of my life. I have never heard a more beautiful voice. She touches my soul like no other. Tears and goosebumps are frequent when listening to her sing. What an amazing woman!
I assume that this video is the evoked response to the incredible vocals on Human :: Nature.
Full support from this side.
Or that certain duet last year.
I doubt that. It has all older songs but should have included heavy ones as well since she is also a great metal singer
Nothing beats Ghost Love Score by Floor
@@ShardCollector definitely nothing
@Aada Leena yess, my favoutite from the new album is "How's the hearth?", I'm in love with that song :)
Nice video. But what puts Floor Jansen one step above the rest it's not just her powerful voice or the belting, or sustaining high notes for a long time. We all know she's a powerhouse, but it's her versatility and how she's a musical chameleon what makes her so unique, she can sing in any style, any technique, any song, and make it sound like it was written for her. Other singers can also belt and reach high notes, but she can also keep it small and soft, sing acoustic, intimate songs and still sound powerful and in total control of her voice. And last but not least she's a true PERFORMER, a storyteller, she feels the lyrics, she lives the song, she amplifies the emotion and blows you away. If it's a happy song she will make your life better, if she's singing a sad song she'll make you cry like a baby.
Well said. She makes this 58 year old bloke very emotional when she sings. New album is killing me with its beauty and depth.
And the icing on that amazing cake is her humility.
@@MountainMetal Yep.
@@michaelwanklin3580 You have a ways to go, it does me too, and I'm a 74 year old bloke.

Michael Jackson
@@emmawiges2963 Wasn't Michael Jackson a biomass consisting of skin transplants?
@@jjs9672 I can confirm you met her I was that tree
Should have included the growling in Disdain . That makes her out of this world for knowing all kinds of vocal techniques
Best male singer of all time: Freddie Mercury
Best female singer of all time: Floor Jansen
Floor Jansen!
She's up there, but yeah, Freddie #1, Floor Jansen top 5.
Tarja Turunen ✍️
Freddie is gay and i don't like his vocal style. I'd rather choose Ronnie James Dio than him.
mmm. Freddie was an incredible singer but not necessarily the best male singer of all time. Floor Jansen is also in my opinion one of the best of all time. But I think Floor Jansen is proportionately more gifted than Freddie was. It is difficult (not impossible of course) in all musical genres to find a female singer superior to Floor. BUT it is possible in Metal and Opera music to find singers of the same level as Freddie. Some even better ... few, very few ... but there are.
Oh come on! I'm only human. I can't handle this amount of Floorgasms in one video.
**Puts video on repeat**
To me she is. Taste is subjective but her talent is a fact. She slays *EVERY* single genre of music she sings, her live performances are better than studio versions and she sings in every concert as if it was the last day of her life and she is charismatic while doing so, humble and interacting with the crowd. Is it necessary to clear up that this is my opinion? Jeez y'all turn comments into mortal Kombat
"she slays EVERY single genre of music" I don't agree with that tbh. But she's very talented and very versatile :) and a great live performer
@@petercauter9691 which one?
@@overdosedmiawallace Seriously? Well, she's a symphonic metal singer. And she's amazing. But she's e.g. not a real opera singer, she's not a real pop singer, not an RnB singer, not a jazz singer, not a rapper, not a beatboxer, not a gospel singer, not a folk singer, and she "only" sings Western music. What she does is immense. But let's not say that she sings everything. :)
@@petercauter9691 I understand. I believe I didn't express myself correctly, I meant to say in my opinion she slays every genre she actually sings with NW, tv etc.. Of course Idk if she'd be good at jazz
@@overdosedmiawallace I agree :) She's phenomenal
I would have added a bit of Shallow and some screaming and growling, and a bit of Slow Love Slow to give viewers an idea of her versatility.
EDIT: And some of the melodies of Music and Pan! They're insane! Let f***ing Queen of Pop Madonna sing that and see how it goes!
I think there is also a reason to mention that she sings christmas song 'O holy night' in Finnish language 'Oi Jouluyö'... Wasn't perfect pronunciation, but ALL THE RESPECT for her to do it live for huge audience (don't think there was anyone who thought it would sound perfect pronunciation anyway)... Finnish language is one damn difficult language to speak, not to mention singing, even for the natives.
trust me, she is ready to pop into pop...the Floor of the former robust days is no more
Outside Context Problem I agree, although in my opinion Slow Love Slow is one of those few songs that Anette actually did better.
@@onlythtruth2938 yeah who would think that she could possibly be in a little more vocal and physical prime at around 32 vs almost 40 and had a baby.
What kind of fucking idiot would think logically like that?????
She can make you cry with almost everything she sings. She can make you feel the words and the emotion in every word she sings. That is why music exist, that the true meaning of music. Like her there have never been one. A lot will come close but never above.
Perfect comment my friend.
Aamen.

Floor is the female benchmark of modern day.I have heard a lot of singers in my time but Floor is just not of this world.
I prefer Beth Hart as the benchmark. When I hear Floor, I can't understand what she is saying even if it's a song I know well. Floor does vocalise the songs well, but her pronunciation of the words could be better if I'm going to understand what she is singing.
@@orlock20 I had a listen to her. Shes ok But I would say Linda Ronstadt is higher than Beth Hart and just Below Floor..I would even rate Karen Carpenter higher than Beth and Linda.. Floor though cant be reached she can do any genre and make it her own..IN fact I would even go so far as to say Floor is a genre..
@@keithteaser I have a hard time understanding Floor.

She sings better than anyone else in the world today that is for sure. Yes she is better than Beyonce...
Much much better!
She has my vote.
The thing that makes Floor stand out is how incredibly versatile she is. She can do full classical right through to death growls and pretty much anything in between. While there are probably singers in certain styles who were better at that particular style, I doubt there is any that is as good as Floor across so many types of singing.
There are tbh, even though she's amazing. (But I don't agree on the "full classical" tbh. She is amazing and amazingly versatile, but she doesn't use a real classical singing technique for her classical performances. It's not even a real gola aperta technique tbh. But it's amazing that she can showcase it anyway)
@@petercauter9691 she's ventured more away from it. And fucking clearly struggles with it live as it's not her main study, she's on a metal stage headbanging and belting, and switching between colors and techniques. Going soft, medium powerful, pure, clean, grit, and growl.
It's physically demanding. Most opera singers would fall apart and sound like horse crap at that point.

I was lucky enough to see her for the first time 20 years ago. I knew immediately she was something very special. Seen her many, many times since then with AF, Revamp and Nightwish 🖤🤘
Same here, except for ReVamp. Very happy she joined Nightwish!
First time i saw her was when they opened with AF for Nightwish. I knew AF already on record but not seen them live. What Floor definitely makes outstanding to all other singers in this world is her unique capability to switch from one style to another within a split of a second. there are more singers that are able to switch styles like tatjana from jinjer or Alicia White-Gluz from Arch Enemy but they are not as versatile as Floor and they are not delivering such emotions with their vocals
Tbh there are many, many singers who do that. There are not only singers who sing in several different genres, there are whole genres that are called "crossover" in which the singers switch between different styles and technique the whole time. Maria Callas was named "La Divina" and has been one of the greatest Soprano of all time, but she was not singing in a metal band where Floor, instead, in my opinion, needs to step up with her beautiful and magic voice to get heard over thousands of screaming fans and the high volume music coming out from the rest of the band, so yes, Floor well deserve the first place ranking
But Floor is using a mic. Maria Callas probably wasn't. Not saying Floor couldn't make herself heard, just that you can't ignore the mic at all.
@@jimmyboy131 and as a consequence of not using a mic (among other things), Callas damaged her voice. Sadly. Doesn't take away from her talent, but imagine if she hadn't strained her pipes?
@@killerpeaches7 But opera singers typically don't use mics. It's a matter of technique which prevents damage to the voice, though I'm sure there are other factors. She knew all the techniques, no doubt.
@@killerpeaches7 With all due respect: you don't know much about classical singing, right?
@@killerpeaches7 In traditional opera singing are no mics used and they aren't needed. The vocal tract is formed in a way that maximizes its resonance space. Opera singing has much more resonance, volume and overtones than contemporary singing, while the main focus of classical vocal pedagogy is on vocal ease and sustainability. In classical singing you can sing with much more power and volume while even raising the ease. Classical singing is indeed much more sustainable than contemporary singing
I am completely biased because I just love Floor, but my personal feelings aside. I have never seen such a master over her voice, she knows exactly how to use that instrument to full affect. Her belts rock the heavens, her lows rumble the earth, and she can jump from one to the other with little effort. While she has honed that instrument and pushed it to it's best, not even the all. She has the innate ability to push any emotion she chooses on the listener, putty in her hands. Then you get to stage presence, oh my god, does she have it. I have seen her turn even the most negative crowds to fangirling men with tears in their eyes. She is the complete package, and with Nightwish, perfection to my ears. @@DaddyMyers94 Yeah, you're right. We all loved him when he was a singer. But now I love Dimash
Hi Steve, ty for this compilation !
"Greatest singer of all times ?" WOW, PRZZZZ THAT is a claim ! I am a huge fan of her, BUT how do you measure that ?
I would say: There has never been a singer LIKE her before.
Her versatility is mindblowing, beeing so good in so many different styles of singing. Combined with her stage presence that makes her unique, thats sure ! But "best singer" is always a question of taste. You cant measure that.
Let's play a game. You will get a random song in any possible genre or language and you have to choose someone to sing it before knowing what type of song you will get. It could be absolutely anything imaginable from classical to jazz, pop, metal, opera or anything you can think of. Who would you pick?
I'd pick Floor. Dimash would be the only one who I'd be slightly worried putting Floor against, and that is telling a lot.
This is not a question about taste, but about the pure ability to sing anything. Yeah, Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Freddie Mercury, Dio, Elvis, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder are all amazing... The list of amazing singers who could be included in this debate is endless. However, I have not seen any of the usual greats who are normally included in this debate (like Aretha, Freddie and Dio) pull so many different types of styles, techniques and songs in multiple different languages the way Floor and Dimash do.
If Floor is not the best, she at least deserves the spot in the debate about who is the greatest singer of all time. Because if not THE best, she is definitely one of the best, ever. From a purely technical standpoint that isn't a subjective matter of taste.
@@TTArt Floor would be my first choice for that as well, but a close 2nd would be Mike Patton for being able to do almost any style as well.
@@TTArt "Let's play a game. You will get a random song in any possible genre or language and you have to choose someone to sing it before knowing what type of song you will get. Well, I love Floor, but with that specific question, I'd obviously choose Dimash. Especially if you even mention languages.
For two simple reasons:
1) Dimash has more than double her range (3 octaves vs more than 6 1/2). He can sing lower than the lowest notes of the bass range and more than two octaves higher than the highest notes of the soprano range. Floor has an AMAZING range, but if she gets e.g. a song for a baritone or a song that needs the whistle register (e.g. Ariana Grande or Mariah Carey), she's screwed.
2) Floor is amaaaazingly versatile, but Dimash is even more. He sings pretty much everything. First of all his main genre is classical crossover and he doesn't only mix classical music with pop (with is what most singers do), he mixes it with many other genres, which is really unusual. And I'm pretty sure he's the only one who does it like tha. Then he has other genres, like pure classical singing, pure pop (of various different cultures and countries), folk music (of various different countries), world music an jazz. But he also does e.g. RnB, rock (and yup, he does both clean screams and distorted ones, and his heavy twang he likes to use for hs upper belts iss actually also rather a technique of rock, hard rock, power metal, hair metal, glam metal and stuff), metal (yes, he DOES growl), musical theater, soul, choral music, he raps, he does scatting,he does beatboxing, ancient ethnic chants (e.g. Middle-Eastern melismas and Yakutian riffs) etc
And he does everything at a very high level and with a flawless technique. He has university degrees in both classical and contemporary (with focus on pop and jazz) singing. Has musical theater education etc
Oh, and he also sings in 12 different languages, can sing songs and classical pieces for literally all voice types and sings in all 4 human vocal registers (Floor sings in two). And he plays several different instruments on stage etc (in case that is needed too, to accompany yourself on an instrument like e.g. Freddie Mercury)
But tbh: he also does several vocal acrobatics she doesn't do... and is probably also more agile hmm
@@Roman-yt8up I actually agree with you. From a purely technical standpoint Dimash is the most impressive vocalist I have ever heard. You explained most of the reasons why. And hence the mention about Dimash being the only one I'd worry picking Floor to go against.
The only reason why I would still pick Floor instead of Dimash is more of a personal preference towards her way of conveying emotion through her performances and vocal tone. Floor moves me every single time she sings. Dimash awes me with his talent and ability. Thus while Dimash could no doubt sing at even wider spectrum of songs, I believe I would prefer Floor in every single one that matches both of their vocal range.
@@TTArt This is a very hypothetical question and will never happen XD thus, it's relevance is debatable. even though it's a very intersting thought. But tbh... I would probably also choose Dimash
Nightwish - Everdream is one of my favorite songs EVER. She absolutely nails that song. There have been 3 different vocalists for that song now. I really love Annette's, but Floor is the best. I hope Nightwish has a long career with her as lead for many many more yeaars.
She's the best 😍💙❤️💙💙💙
Heard this woman for the first time a week ago (WHAT!!!)). one of the greatest voices I have ever heard and completely exciting.
Go and listen to Ghost Love Score, then The Phantom of the opera duet with Henk, then her cover of Que se siente and then watch her whole performance of the Greatest show on Earth. Brilliance is too small a word for Floor.
It's not competion, but IMHO she is the most versatile singer of our time
In North America, she is not well known, but Nightwish and Floor Jansen are very famous in the EU.
There can only be one......FLOOR
Thanks for the Floor compilation! Love her voice. Dimash, however is the individual I would consider the best singer right now.
Living in Sweden, but is Dutch.
Greatest singer of all time ?
Unanswerable, but extremely good and versatile definitely.
Maybe it's not correct thinking about a singer ranking, the same about guitar player ranking, drummer ranking, but there is a very very small group of people, their mere presence on the stage is beautiful and then they start singing or playing and we can only watch, no words required.
Floor is one of them.
Floor is a Goddess
The Last moment of the phantom of the ópera is an epic floorgasm
DIMASH KUDAIBERGEN
Ew.
She IS THE BEST singer for me! I love her voice ♥️
ghost love score ....and THAT MOMENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!.....my god ....what can i say , unfvckingbelievable .......just wow....:)
