weezer getchoo live in the studio for fan club... super cool version just for the fans... brian is calling me out... let me make it clear that they are recording this live... so no jumping around in the studio... they did this with no overdubs... just once through, and thats the reason for the not so active rivers... this is a very hard thing to do, and they played it very good... not many bands can do this...!!!
imagine what weezer would be like now if everybody loved pinkerton
Haiden Gerstner Matt Sharp would still be in the band
@@ObiWanKenobi maybe not
Obi-Wan Kenobi Nah, Matt still probably would’ve left
Pinkerton is their best album ever!
Obi-Wan Kenobi he still would’ve left, he was sick of being a bassist. Pinkerton’s failure meant nothing in that retrospect
Matt has really changed since 1996
Lol
Bruh
Cause it’s not him 😜
That ain't matt sharp that's Scott shriner.
Asar the Wise r/Woooosh
He spilled his entire heart and soul into a record and was embarrassed when everyone hated it at first. He put all of his insecurities out there and it was critically bashed. Rivers called it a "Drunken mistake". I completely understand why he hates it. Then, when he finally got around to writing more music, he starting writing soulless pop because thats what sells apparently, after all pinkerton didn't, and blue was a pop album. Then, everyone called rivers out for having no soul to his music.
I love weezer pop rock or not, people are just picky and can't enjoy damn music sometime
Blue, Pinkerton, EWBAITE and White are the only ones I would consider as "great records".
Blue album was Pop Rock
I believe that people called out the soulless music because Weezer/Rivers was not being true to themselves. Rivers is definitely a guy who can write fantastic pop songs, but he’s also a guy with some emotional baggage that is very meaningful. Trying to cover that up with the Green Album seemed kinda fake. Pinkerton has the best of both worlds.
Weird, I always thought it was well received. It was among me and my friends as teens anyway
"No weirdness in the beginning? Oh wait, nevermind thats No Other One" hahahahahahahahahaha
😂
I mean noone else....lmao
@@rob1973ablebruh 13 years ago ahaha. this is my current account, i posted the og comment
Pinkerton is the best album they ever did. The critics were out of their minds back in 1998.
I loved this album, the only criticism i have is that i felt it was too short. otherwise its the tits.
Yeah, It's simply amazing. This and the Blue Album are the best. Also, I was wrong, it came out in 96'. Didn't think it was THAT old! XD
Critics hated The Velvet Underground and nico when it first came out and now it's one of the most influential albums of all time. Just like Pinkerton ;)
You know what satisfies a craving for more Pinkerton? A good helping of Deluxe Edition. ;) wait.... No.... I just want more then..... Never mind.
ChanceBarberFilms you mean 1996
Scott's awesome, "oh wait that's no other one"
Everything about Pinkerton is perfect, and this song is no exception!
+Amanda Lucia meh, it's too whiny and dark. When I first started listening to it I thought it was their best album but then one time I was listening to it in the car while driving my friends and they were like "wtf is this shit? early emo?" and it made me think. It made me realize just how whiny the singing and lyrics really are - I was so captivated by the music at first that I overlooked it - and REALLY hate whiny singing from men. Pretty much the only whiny Music I "like" is from Weezer and Muse... they can somehow pull it off, but it's a HUGE turn off from me in general.
Largely because of that, the abrasive sound and lack of rockability I rate Pinkerton as their third best album after Blue and Green.
It IS early emo, how did you not already know that? Written by a lonely college kid living in a dark room with a bum leg. The album is perfect, b-sides and all.
+Stephen Richards your friends are a bad influence
Amanda Lucia early emo?Dude I was in high school when Weezer came out and they ain't emo.emo is young men crying for sure ,but Weezer is generally happy...their guitarist died ...that may have caused some sadder songs but I just looked at this by chance.im not a hardcore Weezer fan ,but buddy holly and that if you want to destroy my sweater song are not emo.they go for the nerd" buddy holly "look...it's their shtick.
I guess you'll be calling Roy Orbison emo next lol smh.
Being dark or sad doesn't immediately make you emo.
Typo O negitive has some of the the saddest songs in modern music...they are GOTHIC but they are also metal/ rock and similar to Weezer don't scream like they want to cut their wrists which seems to be the ultimate definition of emo BESIDES hardcore dual guitar and drumming.old school emo was really a version of hardcore that got out of hand and became the retarded trash it's evolved into today.
That's your music lessons for today, goodbye children
Stephen Richards Wow you totally let others influence your personal tastes. You seem like another weak minded sheep. You only like weezer and muse. You are a radioslave. Go listen to more music before you go giving your shit opinion backed with little knowledge of what you're really talking about. "lack of rockability" what are you going on about? Spew less nonsense and go broaden your musical horizons. Inform yourself about good bands before you try to make a point or else someone will really shit all over you.
Pinkerton is my favorite album by weezer. This is probably my fav track from it. IMHO Pinkerton is the best of =w= because it's so raw and emotional.
Best record of all time in my opinion. I think Weezer just existed for a moment in time and then moved on. When you are writing songs about being a poor, loner, young adult in unrequited love, it doesn't help your song writing when you get rich, famous, old and married.
I completely agree. This record came at just the right time for me...I can listen to the tracks now and have different emotional memories from each track....
exactly, me too.
The greatest underrated album of all time.
i always thought this was the weakest on the album (my favorite album too btw)
pinkerton is so fucking good
sounds just like in the record, brilliant
sounds better
It sounds better in the sense that the recording is alot more clear. It sounds worse in the sense that these guys are not 25 anymore and lack the energy they had in 96.
@@marillionbonaparte no it definitely sounds better
@@morganfreeman2102 Rivers' vocals are far worse here, he sounds so tired.
As long as you put it in 1.25 speed
Rivers and Brian’s tone is incredible
Looks like they both got Boss DS-2 pedals... sometimes nothin' beat a good ole Boss DS-1 or DS-2
Love the slowness of this version, gives it an exhausted feeling
Probably because they're tired
that's the way the demo sounds
these guys sound just like weezer
ColdToiletSeats I know right! Another impersonating group of scumbags.
I might hear a person coming in and getting woodshed later on...
they should start a band or something
they're actually a banda called pinkerton
And they look just like buddy holly
What a solid dude, caring about the view of whoever won whatever contest to see them like that. What a trip, by the way, to just get to see Weeze in a living room.
Edit: style
Seeing Rivers use only 3 pedals is awesome. Just goes to show you don't need a massive board with 20 effects to sound good or original. The power goes to the song-writing.
That was for just that song. He has bigger pedal arrays in other performances.
All you really need to perform most any Pinkerton song on guitar is a good overdrive and something like a Boss DS-2 and stack that shit
Good Guy Brian. Get outta the way camera man.
My humbled opinion is that this song alone places Pinkerton in a class of its own.
mcbillygoat ! And el scorcho
Brian Bell looks out for the fans. 1 more reason he's awesome.
Thanks Brian, from the fans

They are seriously rocking in this performance.
So much energy....
@@gawrgurafan1257 vocals are super inspired too
It does, except the drums are missing that aggression that was on the album
Darned camera guys standing in front of the contest winners!
Unpopular opinion but this is the best song on Pinkerton
Good to know Brian’s favorite songs come from Pinkerton and Red, especially this one. Rivers’ favorite songs are just the most popular/relevant because of insecurity, it’s a shame. He still doesn’t see the beauty of this sort of Weezer music.
Weezer should do what Soundgarden did with SuperUnknown and just tour playing it start to finish. I mean with Pinkerton obviously. Not SuperUnknown :P
Thats right except Soundgarden should have done it with Badmotorfinger...
That would've have been sweet
They did.
Weezer or Soundgarden?
***** Weezer. Check out the Memories tour.
I recognize that guitar riff Brian plays near the beginning, but I can't put my finger on what song it is. Don't think it's a Weezer song, but something else from the 90s.
it sounds like that one song from Maladroit
Kinda sounds like Somewhat Damaged by NIN
I know this post was from 10 yrs ago, but the riff you are talking about is the run-up to the ending...Sorry if this has been mentioned already...
Rivers hair is so much better now
love this band, album, and song but god this performance is emotionless
Because, they're trying to nail all the technicalities. I mean damn, it sounds like the studio recording.
My thought exactly. The screams just dont feel the same
Keep in mind this is when they were rehearsing the entire album in order to start playing it live in late 2010. I'm thinking the focus here is on getting things right and working the details out rather than going ham with energy. It sounded a lot better when actually played live later on.
Great vid but damn dude you could have moved for the contest winners!
I wanna know what snare Pat is using. Sounds so good.
+Kyle Wagoner idk but its all about how you tune your snare! i have two of the exact same snares tuned differently and one sounds like this the other is a bit deeper.
God you can tell he hates playing this.. A crying shame cause it's their best album period.
no, he doesn't. if he hated it he wouldn't do a tour playing the whole album from start to finish
(he did hated it but it was like in 2001/02, now he loves it)
+Matthew Toomb He's played entire concerts like this at different points in the history of Weezer. At other times he wore overalls and danced on the amps.
well scott wasnt around for pinkerton
Intergalactic Sex Warlock I think you're confusing something. Rivers is very awkward and stiff when playing live. Just look at performances of say it ain't so on letterman or most live recordings. He is stiff on most of them. He is also trying not to throw out his voice
letterman performance of say it aint so was stiff cause he had just had surgery on his leg - that's also why he's wearing huge pants, if you noticed, he's got a brace under them.
Brian sounds pissed at the cameraman lol
Pinkerton - Best Rock Album Ever For Non Metal but Hard Rockin Sound. Kudos!
when vocalists are rehearsing they dont usually go for the screams cuz they dont want to wear out their voices right away so they can last through long sessions or maybe even a show later
2:28 love the bridge. A simple and effective part that leads to the guitar solo
yeah i wouldnt be concerned. thinking logically, when rivers gets in front of the audience for a concert, there is nothing that will stop him from pouring out 100 percent of his energy into every song, they're just rehearsing to get the techinical sutff down again. either way, it was great, i thought i was dreaming
this shows up at my feed i get to the solo i search rivers cuomo guitar solo the first thing that comes up is this video again lol
Shriner's bass riffs in this are wicked. Dude can play
cameraman got scolded!
The vocals are honestly much better in this than the album
glad they are embracing pinkerton..
it was a GREAT album.. never understood why rivers was so upset with it.
I understand this was posted 3 years ago and you may not even see it but the reason Rivers was upset because Pinkerton was horribly received by fans and critics at the time of its release.
wrong. fans loved pinkerton from the start. It only got bad reviews for a brief period of time and by relatively few outlets.
@@hkhjg1734 It was rated the 2nd or 3rd worst album of 1996 by Rolling Stone readers... wouldn't consider that love
This song seems so simple but it's so infectious. Won't get out of my head. This is definitely one of the best Weezer songs ever.
@TeeMontague Matt Sharp wrote this bass riff, it's from Pinkerton......but Scott is the man :)
I didn't know that Rivers played Wah on that song for some weird reason. His solo on this performance is totally inspiring!!
this song would fit right in Pulp's This Is Hardcore
Anyone else here after The Bear S3:E4 end credits hit so hard that you just had to dig deeper?
To be clear, I have been intimately familiar with Weezer's work since the 90's, tyvm
they sound alot like weezer
Scott sounds amazing
haha brian! That was hilarious. But ya, this is awesome I'm really stoked for this tour.
this is a sick performance. Sludgy!
I can't believe I hadnt heard this performance until today, its so good
Quite possibly my favorite song off of Pinkerton.. Well, okay, that's pretty hard to say. Lets just say its my Fav Song from Pinkerton ...Presently :)
Um...Maladroit? That album was terrific!
Thanks for sharing!! This is mother freaking awesome! 👍❤️😊🎈💁😻
prefect song from prefect album. edit: hanks for the lies k
Only rivers can make a Ds-1 sound great
Daft Doggo that's a DS-2
@Slacker101 well it depends on the amp, but fuck they're good when they work.
Just can’t turn the tone past 12 o clock
It’s a distortion pedal it basically just turns on and off
If you want to thank something for that tone out of that pedal, THANK THE AMP!
lol, you guys forget Kurt Cobain.
They are interfaces, so that each player can control their own foldback (monitor) levels... Headphone interfaces... Nice ones too by the look of it... the studio in miami that joe bonamassa recorded the first black country communion album uses the same ones. I've not been to a studio that uses them but thats because im in a very small time band that thinks they're gonna make it big... just like 78% of todays "youth"
@kristophertellez They aren't a lazy rock band anymore because for them, that's unprofessional. They grew up and are playing their song in a studio without trying to do fancy tricks and show off.
Dude most bands are like this in the studio.
No he's not, he has a point. When Weezer reunited, it was with the premise that Pinkerton was an embarrassing pile of shit. They didn't want to play songs from it live and they sure as hell didn't want to make anything with a similar style. They've finally warmed up to it, but it took them more than a decade and now Rivers is rich married man with no worries. They still make a good tune every now and then, but it's still sad to think what could've been.
This isn't an episode of Glee. He's performing this song perfectly. "where's the emotion" Go take a tap dancing lesson or something.
this should be the way forward after EWBAITE
Pixies 26 that would have been nice lol but nope, we get pacific daydream
@@talentedhack then the black album smh
Pinkertone, so hated in its day, so loved in hindsight. Brilliant.
please bring back this music and ditch the "hurley" and "ratitude" shit. oh and bring back matt sharp.
@kristophertellez I know what you mean, man. But they're not troubled 26 year olds anymore. Most rock bands lose their ballsiness when they get older. The exception to the rule still seems to be the Foo Fighters, but that's for a different discussion. As far as weez goes, I just wish their albums had more yelling and tons of noisy feedback; that's what makes Pinkerton roar so much!
@youman1996 I didn't call them lazy, just bored. If this is "professional" weezer and they weren't "professional" back when blue/pinkerton and a great amount of b-sides and rarities were released that are the foundation of this bands career. Give me the unprofessional band back. The one that was creative, original, had some emotion and balls. Not the band that has "grown up" into their 40's and sing about shopping in the mall or trippin' down the freeway. I'll take unprofessional weezer then.
its rare it really tho
@kristophertellez
Dude, read the notes below the video. it explains why they dont move and look bored. They are in the studio. If you have never recorded, it may seem a bit strange, but every band I have been in, no matter how we move on stage, has looked like this in the studio. Basically, you just do your best not to F up..haha
@kvnknrd It might sound like I'm being a defensive fuck, but my long standing theory is that it was SO critically bashed that he's almost ashamed to play them in public. He bared his soul and got essentially laughed at. Nowadays its obviously looked at much much different but maybe its like a big fuck you to the numerous people that shot it down when it was first released.
im sorry but we are all on drugs is one of the best songs i've ever heard by weezer. beverly hills is angsty and self depreciating, like the old weezer. everybody grows up, but weezer have not changed massively like everyone seems to think. in fact they're still very constant.
My buddy cut Rivers hair at his pad. He’s got a Japanese houseboy lmao no joke
Was this recently? Rivers' hair was pretty long recently, it looks nice, I will weep if he cut it short again.
@@runnersdialzero1244 lol no like 10 yrs ago
@@justinericks8868 Thank you.
@kvnknrd They are in a studio setting...if it was live and they were playing like this I would wonder where the fuck rivers cuomo went. But its totally understandable being in a room surrounded by equipment.
I remember hearing this live during their Pinkerton tour at Roseland Ballroom NYC while it was still around, years ago. Show opener and they killed it!
@shoelessthunder I get what your saying, not fast enough, definetely not enough distortion and no sloppy distorted sound. It was a good song cause it sounded dirty
aww those poor contest winners
What is that white thing on the stand that the bassist has infront of him? I see a lot of bands using those, but have no idea what they are.
I watched a video of this song from the memories tour and the emotion was there. It made me very happy. I'm going to see them on a pinkerton night and I absolutely can not wait until I hear this song live. I really hope Rivers keeps the emotion that I saw in that last video (not this one, lol- it was not there AT ALL in this one)- he almost seemed embarrassed to do it like he did on the album.
I mean, we all knew it was coming... Weezer is done. What a lackluster, who-gives-a-shit-just-picking-up-my-paycheck performance
whats with the Gary Numan (Are Friends Electric) lyrics at the end? i know weezer covered it but it was kind of a random end lol
@jasonmiester9 Why? No other Weezer bassist did. Pinkerton songs played without a pick would sound like a truckload of ass.
Rivers looks kinda bored playing this song. Maybe it's because he didn't like the way the pinkerton album came out?
couldn't agree more with @Lkycharm42
The entire time I was watching this, I couldn't believe how dead sounding it was. Pinkerton was very emotional and this has none of that emotion in it. What's the point of playing anything in the studio if you're not trying to make it sound good?
In their defense, they're probably tired as hell of playing Pinkerton stuff for everyone the past 10 years :-)
No disrespect to them at all, this is just a one-off performance, but man does it suck the feeling from what was a powerhouse tune on this record.
Weezer fanboys who just complain about how bad they want Matt Sharp back is just annoying. MIKEY FTW!!!!
Definitely not as good as the studio version. Only problems are it's too slow, and there's no energy :/
what are ya, good at guitars and drums and bass guitar and singing?
@TochMaarNetOpTijd IF they even do it live. When I went to see them, they only played El Scorcho. :/
Not even close. Blue is good. Pinkerton is perfect. There is not one song on there that is bad.
you know a band is good when their live shows sound exactly like the recorded song.
@UROCKMYSOX249 Regardless, it has but a fraction of the energy the original version had...
That took 15+ wood resources, 19 Gold, 4 Silver, 10 iron, and 5 wood.,
omg they are even better live, i love it
dude doesn't know the right intro to the song....cause he's not Matt Sharp..
First time listening to this song, I heard on The Bear season 3 episode 4
i love how its a bit slower than the album version
Heard this song live last night. It’s is sooo good
is that a boss ds1?
can you guys name the pedals for me?
Blue was better than Pinkerton dude...Lol
hells yeah! Finally playing this album again!
