- Russian President Vladimir Putin’s whereabouts remain unknown following the short-lived rebellion from the Wagner mercenary group.
There has been speculation that the Russian leader fled Moscow during the crisis after his presidential jets were tracked leaving the city.
The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the events show the cracks in Mr Putin's authority.
Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the Wagner mercenary group, has left Russia for Belarus after abandoning his advance on Moscow.

I think Putin saw how his own military was collaborating with Wagner, how easy they were making it through to Moscow and how the people were cheering for Wagner on their way to depose the government (or gov officials at least). He had no REAL power to stop them, he saw he was a paper tiger and the people hated him, perhaps for the first time he saw reality. People broke away from the fear they had of him, and expressed their true thoughts, and it wasn't what he expected. Ruling through fear will never bring you the respect of the people.
What if he's already been taken out? What if Wagner stopped because he found out he was already successful by people on the inside. Who knows. It's either that, or Putin comes back and does something crazy, to reaffirm his power, something brutal or unexpected. Besides executions of the "traitors" he might use a nuke or something. The issue isn't the Russian populace not understanding. That's been the case for a long time, more than a decade. The issue is actually taking action to change things. Here, nothing's apparently changed, the apathy / self-absorption / learned powerlessness is as strong as ever. The good people of St Peterburg and Moscow will turn a blind eye to anything, as long as they can personally avoid the consequences. Contrast that with the good people of Kyiv, Odessa, Kherson, Mariupol. One is a proud nation with collective principles that many are willing to put their lives on the line for, the other is mostly a vast collection of free agents, just going along with whatever way the wind blows for as long as they don't have to take a stand on ... anything.
