I can not say how many Heartstopper reactions I’ve watched over these pass couple for days, and by far your video’s are some of my favourites. Cannot wait for the rest to come!
y'know, as a gay guy I always found it bizarre the way straight people (especially men) automatically discount gay characters and storylines and decide they dislike them just for being related to gay people, when I myself, and gay people in general like or even love *straight* characters and romance storylines. There is no reason why straight people can't also enjoy gay characters in the media they consume, and I'm glad there's at least one person like you!
Liam, you're actually pretty well in touch with a good chunk of what the LGBTQ+ community is looking for. There's more, but you have a great start on it. A thing I'd add are that we want all the variations of coming out and being newly open represented across the board because there are so many different things that could happen to a person, and for a lot of people, especially young people, media they can consume on their own and in private is their only option of understanding themselves. Another thing that is immensely helpful to people trying to figure themselves out are people like you: the straight reactors who watch stories about us and genuinely feel and show positivity. Never underestimate how important it is to see people in the majority embrace us for who we are. People like you make it easier to come out and be ourselves. Thank you for being who you are.
You’re very perceptive and thoughtful! In the graphic novels, Tao was the one who accidentally outed Charlie, he was just talking about it too openly and someone overheard and then it spread. For some reason they leave that specific detail out of the show (although Charlie still said it was an accident and he hadn’t planned to come out). So yeah, in that light it makes more sense why Charlie is worried about Tao picking fights because he knows Nick can’t help but get involved and doesn’t want Tao to accidentally out him or force Nick to out himself by coming to their defense. P.S. much encouragement in taking some steps towards putting yourself out there. :)
It wasn't "left out" it's not even revealed in the graphic novel until volume 3, which the show hasn't touched yet. It also isn't 100% sure that's what happened. It's only speculated (though it does seem likely that was the case)
I like all the characters, but I relate so strongly with Nick. I'm 25 but only recently realized that I'm bisexual, maybe thanks to years of therapy and just growing and self-discovering. I didn't have an official big come out moment, it just happened and the people who I care about know. So I love what this show did with Nick, and he's the first bisexual character I've seen portrayed in TV ❤
If you are looking for more shows to watch with bisexual main characters (and others in the lgbt+ community), I would recommend Shadowhunters and Legends of Tomorrow 💜
I loved how they focused on Tara & Darcy (they're just so cute), sometimes in other show they show multiple relationships but they don't really care for them all, and I love Elle, she's such a nice character. Tara feeling that way is completely understandable she kinda made cry ngl.
I just watched this series yesterday. It pains me that there are only 8 episodes! It was so relatable to my own high-school experience, and the acting was great.
A good majority of people involved in the production of this show are from the LGBTQ community. And I think you can clearly see the love that went into writing and producing it. There were many small moments, especially in the early episodes which many young people can relate too.
8:18 That reminds me of this one time in choir when we were rehearsing for our concert. My choir director gave us our starting word, "Some" and I blurted out " BODY ONCE TOLD ME" and everyone joined in and we were just standing there, singing all star on a stage and watching our choir director
In episode 7 we see a butterfly pattern in Mr Ajayi’s art classroom - and the animation uses the butterfly motif as well. That’s what’s happening to Nick, Elle, Tao and Tara in episode 6: their chrysalis is morphing into butterflies poised to take flight. Charlie and Darcy are already flying on their own but they are so patient with the others who are not there yet. That acceptance and show of respect is very touching. In the case of Ben and Harry, they are still at the larvae stage and will likely remain there for the rest of their life.
I think I've said the word wholesome more times in the last few days than the rest of my life combined, so I very much get your reliance on the word. Really loving your reactions and like you said you don't have to be LGBT to relate to this show, it's just so wholesome (oops, another drink) and pure and relatable to the way all people work out who they are and what they like, regardless of what conclusion (if any) they come to.
Just finished watching them all. Loved it and can't wait for a hopeful season 2. Agreed completely with everything you said and can't wait for the last two reactions (and good luck ! Lol )🙌
My husband is straight but I remember him questioning himself when we were friends and then dating. It was mainly because he was still a virgin. He told a mentor-ish priest (Episcopal) who was the father of my brother's girlfriend at the time and my boss (I babysat his youngest that summer while his wife and other kids were away at various activities) and the priest who was very likely bisexual, kissed him in a 'would you like to find out' kind of way (it was kind of creepy, honestly) and my husband was like, "Nope. Not gay." Of course, I had to point out that maybe he didn't find a 40-something year old man attractive. Anyway, these days he's probably more of the notion that he's mostly straight but there could possibly be circumstances where he could be with a guy. We're 55 and 58. He's never been afraid to be close to guys and he's a big hugger and one of those people that is just naturally flirty with everyone. Or, not flirty exactly but gregarious. Anyway, sexuality is definitely a spectrum and there's nothing wrong with questioning.
Best part of this show..is it is really for everyone..it represents everyone..Tao being a straight ally..And it represents all the confusion, and insecurities we all go thru especially at that age regardless of sexuality, and yet at the same time it fnially puts gay charachters in the forefront as opposed to off to the sidelines..
I love how Nick uses a real life youtuber @courtney_jai (who is in your comments) to help discover more about himself. UA-camrs like Courtney are incredible resources for kids on the lgbtqia+ spectrum - as they share their real life experiences in a caring way.

I'm a straight woman but my best friends are gay and I love LGBTQIA+ TV & movies because at the end of the day we're all just human!
Do not drink Everytime Liam says wholesome
Many would die
The wholesomeness of this show is done so well, it’s not corny, it’s grounded. Makes ya feel good and like Isaac “I want to believe in romance”

Liam needs a wholesome counter 😄.

Elle is so sensational.
Darcy to Tara in the locked room: ‘Talk to me’… This is priceless ❤. Both young actresses are totally into their role. More wholesomeness !!

That group of people and Isaac lol

Correction: it’s in episode 8 that the butterflies show in the art classroom and all over Elle and Tao.
The description you are looking for is token representation vs authentic representation.
They changed the reason for not telling Tao between the comics and the show, it was a change I actually liked though
Really enjoyed what you had to say after you watched the episode, my favourite “reaction” series so far.
I like your reaction; you are a true ally
YAY! More reactions here we go!!. and same literally would also die for all the characters (except Harry and Ben). AHAHAH!
“These are my children” i love it 😂 i just suscribe to you!
OMG, if I were actually taking shots whenever Liam said "wholesome," I would have died of alcohol poisoning 5 times over.

Liked and shared.
Really enjoying your channel - thank you for your tremendous output.
Great reaction

These reactions have be very nice.
