OH CRAP. Its Shogun 2. Its back. Edit: Nice, you also have 1440p for this video. Cool. Its good that you have 1440p, I like it. The text is not to small and the quality upgrade is defiantly worth it.
I tried doing this challenge myself last night and was able to recruit an army and get a start of sorts, so I would hope you don't give up on it. Jinbo and Sakai immediately declared war on me early and defeated their armies 3-4 times before I finally got them to peace out. I made a military alliance with Takeda early on, Hattori and Oda declared war on me. The first Hattori army to attack me had like 10-12 and I was to beat it back without much issue. Hattori later sent a full stack, but by this I had been finally able to recruit units myself (Turn 15 if I remember correctly). I smashed their full stack and capture cities from them. Of course, Takeda broke the alliance and attacked me from behind, now I had to peace out with Hattori and move my army back to deal with Takeda. I stopped playing at this point, but I do feel this campaign is.....possible.
Hat's off on attempting such a crazzy challenge !! Give it another go if possible. That Hattori ninja only challenge failed as well on the first run, but turned out to be such an awesome campaign.. Few things you can do different which might help: 1. Use Monk to incite revolts in enemy settlements. You'll get free monk units that spawn with Revolts. 2. Build a second Naginata Dojo in Echizen for faster recruitment. 3. Get farm building tech as soon as possible too, so as to build up your castles which provides free Garrison. 4. Keep your Daimyo inside castle and use regular generals to kite around units outside the fort / charge archers. Can also dismount them and use as kitana samurai. 5. Upgrade the temple for another free Warrior monk garrison unit. Might also need to retain those first 3-4 units in the beginning and disband them as you recruit the monks. Best of luck with these vids. Always nice to have a Shogun 2 Challenge Campaigns to watch, these are most fun !
it was a good attmept, and i probberly would have done the same, but after seening this video this is what you could consider for the next playthrough :) You could have had naginata warrior monks in 11 turns, if you upgraded the town as the first thing, then research boshido, i know, food shortage, but its only gonna be for 1 turn anyway. Then on turn 2 you could upgrade farms for the food. Then on turn 3 start strategi of defence. Also the town sould be finnished on turn 4, so start the yari drill yard, then it sould be done on turn 6, but strategi of defence isn't done before turn 7, so you could upgrade the blacksmith, and BTW i would have gone with the master armorer, just the fact that morale and meele attack gets better the more experince your unit gets, and armor doesn't, since you are gonna keep the army all the way, it's probberly smarter to get the armor, and with a armory. Naginata warrior monks get as much armor as a katanna samurai, with master armorer and armory, so they are surprisingly tanky, but not as good as other units ofc. Any way on turn 7 you sould start the naginata dojo, it will tage 4 turns to complete, and that leaves us on turn 11 when you can start to recuit units, oh and btw, upgrading kagas castle one more time would probberly be better than echizen, since you get an extra recruitment slot for the NWM (nagi war monks), but ofc you don't have any ranged units, but atleast you could recouit 2 NWM in stead of 1 sorry for the long and winded explaination, but hope this helps somewhat the next time arround, and sorry if this comes off as me being a shitty dude, but im just trying to help. :) *EDIT* Conserning the res, i think it looks fine, and i thought the UI was abit large to begin with. so i see it as a positive.
12:30 I'm pretty sure ranged damage for archers in this game is: units killed = (archer's accuracy) ÷ (target's armor) among other things such as distance to target, terrain and angle of attack. Whatever the formula is, 100 accuracy is not equal to 100% accuracy.
From what I remember from dataminers armor doesn't interact with accuracy. When unit shoots it just checks for hit, then it checks for damage against armor (various units have various value for arrows - look Bow Samurais/Bow Warrior Monks with their better armor piercing projectiles compared to ashigarus. Matchlocks unit are thus great cause it will kill (unless bulletproof samurai unit) on hit.
In regards to the 1440p, everything does seem a little too small. I'm watching from a laptop and i'm not too bothered cause i dont really read much knowing pretty much what the buttons do. But when i do try to read all the words, my eyes get kinda sore. In conclusion, i like 1080p better.
1440p is fine even on mobile for me, we watching mostly memorized all the UI anyway. I think you could've pulled this off without any starting units if you didn't accidentally waste two turns researching the wrong thing. Maybe keep the units but don't use them, just having the military might buy you the one or two turns you need to churn out the monks
You’re exactly right on the randomness of the AI. I did a Long Yari Ashugaru Only Challenge on legendary and failed 3 times before the AI held off long enough to get them going. Sometimes you have to do whatever it takes to keep them off. Alliances if possible but that’s tough for the Ikko Ikki. I know you said the Date is boring and it is. You do whatever it takes to make peace with the Magomi at the start. Then you just wait until you get your troops. You can build up your weapon smith to max with iron from the Hatakeyama. If you keep trying you should be able to get started with the Ikko Ikki. It will just take a couple attempts.
I was searching for some historical info about city sieges, then I came across Wikipedia about longest sieges in history, then about Ikko-Ikki monks, and then I found this video. That was a sort of adventure.
Bought this game for the first time maybe 3 months ago, I guess I'm pretty lucky to be playing it for the first time in 2019 :D. Has seriously blown my mind at how good it is, will definitely get warhammer II after I'm done with shogun, though I have a feeling it has a few hundred more hours left in it.
Hey Donkey, I still dont understand why you felt like you needed to go for Zen first. If you had gone for Strategy of Defence right away there would have been no delay to your recruiting of Naginata Warrior Monks. That could have saved you 5(?) turns. Also you might wanna build the Naginata Dojo in Echizen first, so you can pump out double the units at the start. There is no point in thinking about mid- to late game if you dont make it that far. Just some food for thought that might (or might not) make the challenge possible as intended.
@@MrSmartDonkeyLP This is good advise : "Naginata Dojo in Echizen first" Warrior monks form the bulk of an army so if you can recruit these in number, in the crucial first few turns, appears to be the only way to survive.. You can always build an archery Dojo later and build Bow Monks just as easily. Would also help get rid of that horrid "Feeble" rating which is making every faction declare/join war.
I find that armor is more valuable to melee attack, because melee attack can be gained via unit experience, and because armor is ALWAYS taken into account when attacked, whereas melee attack is only taken into account when dealing melee damage.
Depends on the army composition. As I explained in this video, my army is going to have to be aggressive regardless, because my armour will always be low, so I might as well increase melee attack, combined with warcry I'll be able to rout everything in seconds.
Just my two-cents here. I haven't really played Ikko Ikki on Legendary before, but I had completed on Very Hard. How I won was a bit ridiculous. Early in the campaign you have to continually build up your army using ashigarus and start building the naginata dojo and temple so that you will be able to recruit Naginata Monks sooner. That will deter the surrounding clans for awhile, but they will eventually declare war on you. By then, you will be roughly starting to build your 2nd army, use your first army to fight your enemies. Their conquered lands' populace will eventually turn hostile towards you because of resistance and different religion. So no point holding onto them, just loot. So with your first army still near to Echizen, finish building your 2nd army to defend the Ikko Ikki homeland, while your 1st goes on to loot all your enemy clans. Doing that will put your Daimyo honour in the gutters, sure. But your enemies will be so weakened and you will survive. The money from the looting can then be used to build the 3rd army and this time build it with Naginata Monks. Keep repeating this process until you get to either ends of the campaign map and then from there you can start holding onto the land permanently without fear of being attacked from the back and then dominate the rest of Japan.
But you do realize this isn’t a regular campaign? It’s a challenge run where I’m only allowed to recruit warrior monks, so saying “use Ashigaru” is just a bit of a mute point. I do have a regular Legendary difficulty Ikko Ikki campaign on the channel as well, possibly 2 of them, I can’t keep track anymore of the ridiculous amount of campaigns I’ve done, but I don’t need to do any weird tactics in that, I can just hold my starting territories and expand.

The exact kind of mod I don't like. Shogun 2 is great because I unlike some Total War games I won't have to ask my great-grandchildren to finish the campaign for me, I can do it in a reasonable time. I don't need Shogun 2 to be longer.
Lucky you. I have an Iphone 4 with half the screen cracked and my internet provider is my hamster spinning a wheel. I can't tell who is the guy and which is the shela when I watch porn. Please donkey go back to 1080p
Welcome back Shogun 2! But with a weird choice... Well, the Ikko Ikki were a real terror of Japan, lots of blood was spilled in counter of the fanatic warrior monks of Rennyo's teaching, that very simplistic teaching, which consists of saying some phrases VERY many times- 20.000, 30.000 or even 40.000 times... I've seen only once such a guy in university (over 10 years now), saying all the time "Hurray Amidda Budha" and I could withstand besides him under a minute. And don't dare saying something, you never know how they'll take it. I really hope you won't take it on the wrong way, just such a meeting was a bad experience for me and I pose it here for you, to know what these guys are. You can trust Internet sources to learn about them- if you haven't done it already. As for the recording, the Internet in Greece is such a mess, that I'll watch them in 1080p anyway, no matter in what quality you record the episodes. And this time, because of the BAD condition of electricity distribution, it's degraded to 720p or even more... So, I'll be out of this discussion. Have a nice day, Dutchman!
I'm not sure how the real life Ikko Ikki should have an effect on who I decide to play in my Let's Plays, not to mention I've done several Let's Plays with them already. That's like saying you shouldn't play as Germany in Hearts of Iron IV because "they were the bad guys", it's a game, it's not supposed to matter who's who.
@@MrSmartDonkeyLP , I totally agree. This faction isn't one of my favourite, however I will surely watch this Let's Play. Go on and good luck- what I say, you'll surely achieve the win, this is YOUR game. Hence, my like to your comment.

The text is unreadable when you’re on a phone, but that’s it. I’m switched to watching from an iPad and I can read properly and everything just looks great! Hope my observation helps :)
It's ok.....i have a 5.5 inch 1080p display.......can se stuff on 1080p and 720p and its readable but i guess people viewing it on anything smaller like my mobile display and watching on resolutions lower than 720p won't be able to make out any text as it all will be blurred up, but then again it was also somewhat blurred up for 1080p recording resolution as well........... Your channel your call
Off topic, but I was playing an oda campaign the other day, and the ikko ikki invaded my capital like 17 turns in with 6,600 odd men-3 and a half full stacks....good thing I had sent my main army with all my generals, say one,to invade the chosokabe lol how the fuq balls they recruited that many men that early into the game is beyond me...but it looked like a zerg rush on the battlefuild map. Long story short-they fuqing won quite handedly...I wanted to lose the region anyway but it was still bullshit.
Watching on a laptop makes everything smaller without being able to benefit from the higher resolution, still, if everyone is alright with the change, I won't complain.
From the comments so far I think it's pretty clear most people like 1440p, there's a few people who would prefer 1080p, and most people would prefer a bigger U.I. with 1440p, but the majority said they like 1440p even if it stays exactly like this, the upgrade in video quality is just worth it.
Can you do this again but with research speed boost mod/s. This will help you get the monks earlier but does give you an unfair advange since the ai gets the boost as well.
Currently i'm saving money to buy a new video card and until then the best my pc can give is 720p, so i can't really read well with the 1440p, nor do i benefit from the new graffics, but when i DO buy a new one i'm sure i'll enjoy it, so i don't think you should change it, unless you yourself is having a problem with the game because of it.
well you do get an improvement in the video qualty, since the way youtube compresses the video, the video is recorded in 1440p and since 1440p has more data, there sould be less "sqaurs", if you wanna call it that, or atleast that is what it sometimes looks like on other videos. besides the compression rate of youtubes algorithm do have a set number, so since there are more data in a 1440p video, it in a sence losses less quality. hope it wasn't to qonfusion :)

Can we get a modded series that changes the game in major way?
Not currently planning on something like that. Don't like most of the overhaul mods.
@@MrSmartDonkeyLP understandable good sir was just wondering. Thank you for the reply
@@MrSmartDonkeyLP
One thing that might be interesting is the expanded Japan mod, just more regions really.
The exact kind of mod I don't like. Shogun 2 is great because I unlike some Total War games I won't have to ask my great-grandchildren to finish the campaign for me, I can do it in a reasonable time. I don't need Shogun 2 to be longer.
@@MrSmartDonkeyLP yeah I dont want any mods to extend the game just ones that add something fun. Like the WW1 mods for Napoleon total war
720p on mobile on a Pixel 2 XL and I can make out the UI, food, money etc just fine without issues. It's small, but it's not impossible to see at all.
Thanks for the feedback sir!
Lucky you. I have an Iphone 4 with half the screen cracked and my internet provider is my hamster spinning a wheel. I can't tell who is the guy and which is the shela when I watch porn.
Please donkey go back to 1080p
I didnt realize how I miss this game so much
My kind of tea, its been a while since ive seen good samurai battle. Please do close ups too!
1440p is worth it please keep doing it
Wow, I thought we would not see you playing this game again!
OH BOY ERE WE GO!
"Here, take my kid"
BEST LINE EVER
I would love to see you play the Imjin War mod, it adds in China and Korea to the game, would love to see you play through it!
Actual gameplay 06:00
I really like the 1440p, thanks!
Alternative title: Ikko Ikki campaign, pacifist route.
So much for no excitement, haha, you executed that first skirmish well :D
Nevermind, I just got to the part of the video where the full stack came; big oof.
Next challenge "always in war", you declare and stay in war for everyone faction you have met :D.
That's called the "Total War" challenge.
While the resolution is nice, the UI essentially becomes a guessing game for me. The best of both worlds would be a mod that just enlarges the UI
That would certainly be nice.
Yes, more of this please
missed your shogun 2 vids man
The text is unreadable when you’re on a phone, but that’s it. I’m switched to watching from an iPad and I can read properly and everything just looks great! Hope my observation helps :)
If you could resize the UI somehow that would help, 720p on mobile is very small atleast for me. Good to see you back in Shogun 2 though! :)
I looked for a way, but it doesn't seem possible.
@@MrSmartDonkeyLP shieeet, aight.
I also have a 1440p screen and everything seems fine to me!
How about trying to make revolt with monk? Then you can have some unit if the revolt take the town
Can you use the larger text mod in 1440p?
I will probably try it and see if it looks good. I came across it the other day while searching for U.I. enlargement mods.
you should be able to go in the files somewhere (if it is not in the ingame options) and adjust the UI scale
YESSSS! YESSSSSS!
Good luck on your next try
heck yea shogun 2!
Cant see any thing change back the graphics again
How about a resize UI mod?
Theres probably a way to scale the UI in the game files.
Couldn’t find anything obvious in the short time I checked, might be possible though.
what is this?
back in shogun 2
Nice
Is there a Takeda horse only challenge?
ua-cam.com/play/PL28oZ4FVZmk479gM8Bs8x-YspOb0bnDeH.html Yes
Yeah i think this quality can stay. Since it's a challenge most people will propably know most of the texts anyway
It looks great
Holly molly I can't belive my eyes. 24:20 I felt it was coming lul
Ayyy ma man donkey bak Gachigasm
OHH HELL YEAAAA
how do you get to use Ikko Ikki in campaign? is it a mod or?
@@stansdad16 you need to own the Ikko Ikki DLC.
@@MrSmartDonkeyLP thank you, where did you get it?
@@stansdad16 Try Steam.
Trun it back to 1080, everything is really small. Even when i put it on TV. Me eyes are bleeding young one.
Pretty small on mobile, maybe you can enlarge the ui a bit?
That's the thing, that's not possible or I would have.
i can't see the tiny letter
You have lots of money (kinda) so why you don't use monks to set a rebellion in your enemies locations?
It's ok.....i have a 5.5 inch 1080p display.......can se stuff on 1080p and 720p and its readable but i guess people viewing it on anything smaller like my mobile display and watching on resolutions lower than 720p won't be able to make out any text as it all will be blurred up, but then again it was also somewhat blurred up for 1080p recording resolution as well........... Your channel your call
LOL that was a funny one!
Make a poll so we can vote on resolution!
From the comments so far I think it's pretty clear most people like 1440p, there's a few people who would prefer 1080p, and most people would prefer a bigger U.I. with 1440p, but the majority said they like 1440p even if it stays exactly like this, the upgrade in video quality is just worth it.
The 1440p seems to work pretty well for me
Shogun 2 is still the best :D
Can you do this again but with research speed boost mod/s. This will help you get the monks earlier but does give you an unfair advange since the ai gets the boost as well.
Nah, I'll find a different way to do it.
pls go back to 1080p pls ;(
Currently i'm saving money to buy a new video card and until then the best my pc can give is 720p, so i can't really read well with the 1440p, nor do i benefit from the new graffics, but when i DO buy a new one i'm sure i'll enjoy it, so i don't think you should change it, unless you yourself is having a problem with the game because of it.
well you do get an improvement in the video qualty, since the way youtube compresses the video, the video is recorded in 1440p and since 1440p has more data, there sould be less "sqaurs", if you wanna call it that, or atleast that is what it sometimes looks like on other videos. besides the compression rate of youtubes algorithm do have a set number, so since there are more data in a 1440p video, it in a sence losses less quality. hope it wasn't to qonfusion :)
Concerning the 1440p issue, well, now I gotta get my glasses to watch the video on my smartphone, but it isnt a huge bother for me.
So there’s Matchlock monks, Naginata warrior monk cavalry, Naginata warrior monks, Marathon monks and Bow warrior monks.
Yes sir, good selection right there.
bro where your news mateng campaign ?
Ugh, it’s been like 2 days, why do people always panic when I’ve not uploaded a certain campaign for a few days, it’ll be back today probably.
This was a nice try, just like the ninja only run! Keep the 1440 it looks so good, and the text looks the same to me.
Text size seems ok to me
I did this with the uesugi, cus I was too cheap to buy the ikko ikki at the time 😆
Buddhism is a peaceful religion.
Ikko Ikki: Hold our sake.
Its kenshin curse for not playing with uesugi
Ma Teng (Chao) campaign completion videos please :D
No.
Quality on iPhone is fine.
So I’m assuming generals are legitimate usage?
Yeah, as they are in all challenges, same as garrisons.
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD
Cries in 240p
