Many thanks for your video. Sorry I am so late to the party, but I am just starting to use Apple Photos. I have a HUGE amount of photos to process. One aspect I have been trying to determine, which I have not seen addressed --- regarding metadata, description info, keywords, etc --- I would like to know just what information is pulled along with a photo when it is imported into Apple Photos. I am concerned that I believe keywords are needed by Apple Photos to be able to perform searches for photos by keyword. So, I am in the process of using a separate app on my Mac to add keywords, description, etc to each photo, expecting (hoping) that that info accompanies the image when imported. Or, am I wasting my time, and have to do all of that after the photo is imported to Apple Photos. But another concern, is that I understand that keywording, desciprtions in Apple Photos is not included when you export the photo. SO, I was planning to use all of the original photos on my Mac external hard drive as the MASTER location of all photo files, supposedly updating them with keywords, descriptions, etc. So, my interest in learning just what info accompanies a photo when importing to Apple Photos. Or, do I not understand the process? Thank you.
Can photos metadata sometimes show that a different device was used rather than original. For instance, a photo in iPhone 13 will show iPhone 13 instead of iPhone ten which actually took it but it was movies to iPhone 13??
Interesting @bilalbangash7731. Are you saying that a movie taken on an iPhone 10 was copied/shared to an iPhone 13 and the 13 shows it was taken on an iPhone 13 instead of the 10? I have not seen that before if that's the case. Does it show different metadata on a Mac? What does it show on iCloud.com? THANK YOU so much for watching! It is appreciated more than you know! Thanks so much for answering my request for more camera metadata with this informative video. My goal is to break away from using the Auto mode on my Nikon D5500 and D90 cameras and experiment with the mode dial, and the Effects/Scene options. Having more metadata available to me helps me recall what I had the camera set to when I am out experimenting so I can improve my skills both on my MacBook Pro Photos App and my camera. As corny as it sounds, I was thrilled you listened to my request and came up with a solution so quickly. Thanks
Hey not a problem at all! I wish you the best in your passion to learn! Switch the camera to M and just start shooting! The BEST way to learn is by doing and making mistakes!

How can I “burn” the basic metadata onto a photo or the bottom of a photo, I need to submit evidence and want to show its creation date on the photo without actually typing it on the image.
Fantastic question @MisterChips2012! The best option I can think of without having special software is the built in Markup tool. This is available within Apple Photos and Preview. I have another video that covers this topic that I will link below for reference: ADDING TEXT to your PHOTOS using your iPad, iPhone & Mac! - Step by Step guide to understanding how! ua-cam.com/video/ZfgvmDfjBK8/v-deo.html I'm sure there's some piece of software that could be purchased to add this into a workflow if you want to do it on many photos, but if you're just doing it a little bit here and there, the above option can definitely work. I hope that helps! THANK YOU so much for watching! It is appreciated more than you know! If this video was useful, I’d love for you to SHARE it with on social media and say how it helped you! Hi Joel. I I shoot lots of plants and use photos info by tagging to help sort and categorize. I This works great om the Mac but when I go to my ipad, none of the info is there. The aim is to see the names of the plants on the ipad. How do I do this?
Hi @martyt4658! When you say that you're tagging to sort and categorize, what do you mean by that? Is this on your Mac that you're doing this? Are you using Keywords? Keywords do sync among Mac, iPhone and iPad. The only thing is that on iPhone and iPad, there is no way to add a keyword or visually see them without typing in the keyword within the Search field. Keywords would for sure be the feature to use! If you using keywords, the next thing to check and verify is that you're using the same Apple ID/iCloud account on both Mac and iPad. I have used iPhoto and later Aperture from day one. When I could not update the OS anymore do to compatibility issues I made the switch to LR, but did not import any old photos from iPhoto or Aperture to LR. I did not want to play around with new software with all my photos in there. I kept an external drive with the old OS and apps, just in case. I did not like LR’s switch to subscription and would like to move all my photos to a finder file structure and have either Photos or Luminar organize it, since I can not update my LR anymore and are stuck with Mojave. My main problem is the transfer of all the key words from iPhoto/Aperture to an other app. I have thousands of photos with keywords and would like a way to transfer them. Have you ever done a video about library/application transfers, also from LR, which is almost none existent. They are all about how to transfer to LR. Thank you.
Hi @Hans J Heer! This comment for sure slipped through the cracks! I hear you, as i'm not a fan of the subscription model either. As far as the transfer of keywords and metadata and such, that is a fantastic question! I haven't done this much with going from Lightroom, or many other apps, so I may not be much help, but it would for sure make a good video! I'll have to do some research and add it to the list! Probably not the answer you're looking for, but thanks for watching! I appreciate it!
@Hans Koscielny, I couldn't agree more! It seems like a serious no brainer to have that info! I'm glad they're finally adding some of the metadata to show up in photos on iPhone and iPads in the upcoming iOS15, but they should have had it to begin with! Thanks so much for watching and I appreciate the support!

That’s just painful. Photos should just have a dropdown and give that info right in the photos app. Apple really dropped the ball until they do this.
