Thanks Mollie! That did help a bunch. I've tried to use Windows explorer to edit the meta data and it is so frustrating. I was over it after only a few photos. Windows hopefully will come up with a way to make this easy and efficient, but it is not here now. I have thousands of photos uploaded and one at a time is too much to even contemplate. Thank you for all the work you are doing to find the best options.
LOL Susan - No kidding . . . it should not be this hard! Thank you again for watching!
Cheers!

I use Picture Information Extractor from Picmenta, i payed one subscription and i have all the updates, i edit all the Metadata like Exif tags and IPTC tags XMP and also i can correct the time of the Photo and also it will show you how you took a picture, a lot of information such as program mode, white balance settings or lens data, GPS settings etc etc etc
Thanks so much for sharing this information about Picmenta - I'll have to check it out!
Some photo viewers do not show metadata, the one that i remember it is Windows Live Photo Gallery but it is not available for the newer Windows, some updates in Windows 10 do not let you to install Windows Live Photo Gallery, thanks God i found the original edition and i use it a lot from a brasilian person and it is in english so that's great
Joao - that is fantastic that you found a version of the Live Photo Gallery! It really did do a lot! Thanks so much for watching!
Cheers!

Thank you! I was trying to find a program that would do just that when I found your video. You've saved me a lot of time! It's sad that there is no non-cloud application that can easily read and write tags (other than the OS itself). It would be so nice if we could search for photos containing the tag "Frank Ostrowski" from within a photo management application instead of relying on the OS or specialized tools like ExifTools.
Replying to my own post, I've been testing digiKam since yesterday. A free, open-source application. It has tons of features and I love the way it manages tags. You can choose to update the photo metadata with tags, or just the internal database. So far so good...
Hey Rob - thanks so much for posting. . . twice!! I had to think about this a few days. Mylio is a program that is non-cloud and the tags (Called Keywords) does search nicely for this. You can also search for two or more keywords. Is this what you are looking to do? I'm going to go look at digiKam next! : )
Cheers!

Does Forever allow you to batch edit metadata? Like change a group of photos all to Christmas of a particular year?
Hi KG - yes you can batch edit … date taken, titles, tags and descriptions. Be careful because batch editing will overwrite other titles and descriptions! When you select multiple items, you can choose from a couple options in the blue bar that appears. I hope this helps! And I will show how this works in my next, UA-cam live, which will be on Thursday at noon CST. Cheers!
Hi Mollie, this video helped a bunch. I am considering Forever for my 22,000 photos, much of which are family photos from the 1800s on. Currently, I had moved them to Adobe Lightroom CC and they are synced to Lightroom on the cloud so that I can have the family access them. VIDEOS are a problem. Lightroom doesn't have a way to move metadata from videos to the files. I'm working with jb Video Metadata as an add-on to do that but have not succeeded yet. Once I have that I am hoping to move to Forever, and I like the fact that they save metadata so that they can be exported anywhere and preserve all that work. I'm concerned about what you said about "Title" in metadata. I have many lengthy titles AND descriptions. Am I going to have to find a way to combine them into one field, "description"?
Hi there - Sounds like you have a good system for managing the photos. It's too bad that videos don't have the same metadata fields. In Forever, you can add descriptions and tags - but they are only usable within the Forever website or app.
You probably will want to test how the photos (with your lengthy titles and descriptions) upload to Forever. I just tried it again and my title did not go up and is not viewable and appears to be not there when I download the photo from Forever.
Forever is working on their major update for 2024 (probably end of year) and MAYBE there will be a title field?
You are definitely not alone in this situation!
Hope this helps!

Hi Mollie, thank you for your wonderful content. Wish I had sought out the answers to my iPhoto metadata sharing dilemmas years ago. None the less here I am trying to get a handle on the correct way to title, caption, tag, keyword correctly. 😣 soooo my question… i use apple products so iPhoto or Photos…. Will the metadata i edited in iphoto/photos export and upload correctly to Forever??? Your example of export out of iphoto/Photos seemed to say no but then at end of your video you show windows file explorer ‘field conversion chart’ for uploading to Forever but you didn’t mention iPhoto/photos. 18:42 thank you in advance.
Oh wait I watch again and i see you say that’s the only thing you know for sure at this moment with was 1 year ago.
Hi there! When exporting from Apple Photos on your Mac, be sure you have the metadata checked in the export process! I recommend testing it on a couple, uploading to FOREVER to confirm and let me know if you have troubles!
@@Pixologie will do. thank you for the reply.
You are welcome!
is there any possibilities to add one additional column and add MAC, IP address on that additional column
Hi Prabhu, if you are speaking about the Mac Finder, then no - no possibilities to add columns like IP address. What would you be using it for?
Thank you so much for watching!
Mollie
We are organizing thousands of home pictures and are using the "Tags" portion of the metadata. Mostly JPEG files on a Macbook Air. Is there additional information available on "tags"? How do you use them? I think we hit a limit on all the tags we have put in. Can you delete a tag that keeps appearing for selection rather than re-typing when we are adding new tags? Need to learn more about these "tags". Can someone help? Thanks
Hi there - Are you using the tags portion in Finder or Keywords in the Photos App?
Cheers!
Mollie
It's in Finder. Is Finder a "Mac" thing?
Hi again - Unfortunately, I don't believe tags added in Finder work well in other views. I just tested adding a tag to a photo in Finder, then imported it to Apple Photos where the field for tagging is actually called "Keywords." Tagging in Finder is not a good photo management practice as it literally is only viewable in Finder. Plus they are difficult to use I think.
You could import all of those photos to the Apple Photos app to add keywords but again, it's hard for others to view and see the keywords.
What's your end goal with these photos? Where will they be housed?
Cheers!

Until Forever disappears or puts up pay walls your family can not pay.
Hi Mel Solomon! Thank you so much for watching and leaving a comment here. A couple things. . . FOREVER has a guarantee fund designed to help families have access to accounts long after the original owner is gone. Also, I tell all of my clients they SHOULD keep a copy of their digital photo collection in their home in case of no internet access or something worse happening in the world. I would love to chat with you if you are looking for something for your photos. Feel free to set up an appointment - www.calendly.com/mollieb/pixplan.

Talks too much and does not get to the point
Hi David - this video was from a few years ago and I'm working harder to get right to the point! Thank you for the feedback!
