Lauri Törni's story is.. interesting. He reeeally didn't like commies. Getting invaded by USSR will do that. He defended Finland. Then joined [that] Germany to continue the fight. Later (wild journey to get to the U.S., not a point a to point b) joined the U.S. Military [taught skiing, mountain and guerilla warfare]. Then fought in Vietnam.

His father, Jalmari, was also very anti communist. I believe he fought against the communist party in Finland during their civil war, if not physically, then certainly politically.

Lauri Törni might be the only SS soldier that is buried in Arlington. To me it never sounded like he was addicted to the war game but really did not like the Soviet Union and that is understandable as his home town of Viipuri was lost to the USSR during the winter war. Viipuri/Vyborg is still part to Russia.

Thanks for your fine reaction! The first Sabaton song I heard was "To Hell and Back." I was a fan of Audie Murphy's westerns, but didn't know he was a WW2 soldier whose bravery earned him every US medal, and also from France and Belgium. His book "To Hell and Back" contains a poem he wrote "The Crosses Grow at Anzio." Sabaton travels with a tank named "Audie" and this is the song they usually play at the end of their concerts. I was shocked to see a European concert, where the crowd knew the lyrics. In America, many people don't know who Audie is, what a fine writer, and also he called attention to PTS of soldiers. All their songs are great.

I'm so happy that you like my fellow Swedes in Sabaton, Brad! In the process, you help spread the word that traditional heavy metal is not just decades old, legendary songs from the likes of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest (not that those aren't great), but an ongoing thing where new hits and future classics just keep on appearing. And your powers of observations are as astute as ever. You remain one of my very biggest UA-cam faves. Please keep'em coming!

Some ppl are their best at war. Bit scary but they do exist. Here is one proof of that.

I think he just hated communism, and the Soviet Union specifically, so much that he was willing to do whatever it took to try and defeat it.

I heard he had once said that when he didn't even had a farm anymore he lost that to the reds all he knew was how to fight and he was good at it... so the choice was easy...

Lauri is the only SS officer buried in Arlington, and, unless his family wants what little they'd found of him buried back in Finland with them, then he should stay there. He didn't join the German army because he liked Hitler or anything - he hated the Soviet Union, and Hitler was the only one offering to help Finland fight them back. Can't say I blame him for his choice.

I love Sabaton, and I love Nanowar of Steel, who you did a reaction to some months ago. Did you know they did a cooperation song and video called "Pasadena 1994" some time ago? Maybe you could react to that one, too. It shows that the singer of Sabaton has a really good sense of humor, imo. :D

He hated communism so bad, that he fought in WW2 and Vienam, both times against commies

Maybe it would be worth watching Sabaton's history channel, the background of Törni, before labeling him a psychopath. Stalin, the best friend of the Allies, attacked Finland 3.6 million people against 140? million, and Finland was left alone without help of other countrys. In continuation War the options are to submit to Stalin's rule or to ally with Germany. After the war, communists put Törni in prison, which he was not happy about. Even today, it sounds familiar when you replace Stalin with Putler and other russian idiots but the power relations are more equal after all.

He was trained by the SS, but he wasn't a Nazi. He joined the German army because Hitler was the only one who was offering to help Finland fight the Soviet Union because no one else gave a damn.
