Best quote of the lesson: “don’t fear, I’ve heard there are other blues in E backing tracks available”. Love your sense of humor Adrian, so good! In all seriousness, this is a great lesson and one I will work on this weekend. Please note I have already made the sensible decision to sign up for your Patreon page. 😉 have a great weekend! 🤠
Coincidentally just today I practiced like this for the first time really actively. Mostly because I wanted to challenge myself and get a better understanding of the notes and stuff. Now I look on youtube and you've uploaded a video about it...
revisiting this lesson. How to move back and forth, this is the real groove of rock in sense of expressive and creative way. Hello Johnny Thunders wherever you may be haunting us fellow guitar enthusiasts.
beginners guitar like me...i love it and motivates me to become creative through practicing & exercising. It's a clever teaching, as a whole, brilliant...good job!
I've studied and played the sitar for 47 years its all horizontal movement. I'm having a really tough time transitioning to the guitar. I've only been at it for a year but my frustration level is really creating a challenge. This vid helped me put a perspective on the process. Thank you Sir.
It’s a fantastic concept . Perhaps it’s where everyone should actually begin especially for learning theory and for the other reasons given in the video. As a teacher I have thought about having a season where a student has one string. Later they can have 2. Then 3. Etc. One string means only one note which means having to play with other guitarists/musicians to be able to access any harmony. Get three guys together on their one string guitars now you can have single note melody’s, intervals like 3rds, 6ths, etc, and triads/chords. Guitar players have a tendency to be shepherded into an independent mentality where’s all about us and our guitar solo and little to do with team work and co-operating with band members to contribute to the bigger picture not dominate the music or use it for our own ends such as self glory
Mike Landau (L.A session legend) is a great example of tasty phrasing you can do along one string he's well worth a listen:) These lessons/this channel is superb :-)
This a great lesson!! I have never actually tried it, but it seems like an excellent way to find your way around the fret board by using one string, because in the end, it applies universally. Nice work!
*Puts hand up* erm... all my solos are on one string! :D I play in a surf group, so when I play any lead parts it’s all tremolo picking and slides. Figured if it’s good enough for Dick Dale, it’s good enough for me. I’ve always been a rhythm player and always left the fancy soloing to someone more virtuoso in my bands and steered clear for 20 years. In this band, I’m the only guitar player, so it has really pushed me to be more versatile melodically.
Thanks Adrian! I love it! I always take advantage of the open string but kind of wonder if I'm supposed to do that. And now I know! Meanwhile, I just wish that I could be a live, in person, student, on a weekly basis. Have a great Day! :)
Nicely explained with wonderful execution, it looks like a lot of fun even though this type of blues isn't my bag. I am definitely going to try it, cheers Adrian 😎🎙🎸✅
I often sit on a two or three note solo to squeeze every last possible drop of blood out of it. Also forces you to get weird with timing because you'll eventually be so bored you kind of have to.
Great intonation ...and fabulous phrasing.... this is a cool idea One question I could go look myself really but if a major scale wwhwwwh how is major pentatonic spelled?
Great video and great tone! On a side note... how do you manage to stay right next to the SV20 at 6 (with a Beano!) in a small room without deafening yourself (and the neighborhood)?!
One string solos are the best. It's more convenient, more homogeneous, more fluid. I hate to solo on 2 strings (or more) because of parasite noises (difficult to have perfect control) and because the strings have not the same thickness, it's messy.
Not to mention changing octaves. How about Dorian! or another tasty scale!? Im having fun with this and im going to challenge my students with it. iv'e turned them on to your Patreon page. I already have their head spinning though.....That guitar would look good in Mr. Johnny Thunders hands. Not to mention mine.
I will do as you command, teacher.
Good.... Goooood
make it so, number too....
Dew it!
😅 i thought that this was a great lesson! It quickly highlights the use of the 7ths and 3rds etc. Put a smile on my face. Thanks!
I signed up for the post punk classics, I stayed for this stuff. Great lesson!
Wisdom, taste and (an English language) vocabulary - who could ask for more. Superb. Thank you

i realize Im kinda off topic but do anybody know a good site to stream newly released series online?
@Walker Randall flixportal =)
@Dario Amir Thanks, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I really appreciate it!
@Walker Randall glad I could help :)
Billy Duffy is a big fan of the single string technique (She Sells Sanctuary, Fire Woman).
Coincidentally just today I practiced like this for the first time really actively. Mostly because I wanted to challenge myself and get a better understanding of the notes and stuff. Now I look on youtube and you've uploaded a video about it...
That blues solo was the business :)
🤯🤯🤯
Awesome thank you!
Never would have thought you Could get so much out of a single string!
I really appreciate your informative no-nonsense approach. Tremendously helpful.
Absolutely brilliant.. this is how all beginners should start.
it's basically how I started 33 years ago. I still play solos like that.
That's the way I started too .
i'm a beginner and i do agree !
revisiting this lesson. How to move back and forth, this is the real groove of rock in sense of expressive and creative way. Hello Johnny Thunders wherever you may be haunting us fellow guitar enthusiasts.
Great to learn to get over a string breaking mid solo!!!!!
Neil Young took it one step further. Just one note for a solo! This video is awesome. Very clever.
beginners guitar like me...i love it and motivates me to become creative through practicing & exercising. It's a clever teaching, as a whole, brilliant...good job!
Now that's the kind of lesson we all should be shown as we start our Guitar Journey.Killer sounds you have there. Thanks Adrian.
This guy has the best tutorials
your an animal! A nerd but a beast on guitar. Your brilliant and I follow you vigilantly!
I like this. It also helps with remembering where the whole steps in notes that appear as half steps on the fretboard are. (B-C, E-F)
more of the smiths please!!
girl afraid, nowhere fast, cemetry gates or is it really so strange?
i would be grateful.

Some serious tone in that guitar.
So cool! This will be fun to practice.
I think I peaked when you taught me the “Cinnamon Girl” solo!
Ha! That was a great lesson!
Soul City Sawdog I see what you did there :-)
Just wanted to say that you're my favourite guitar channel on UA-cam by miles. I've learned so much from you, including many of my favourite songs!
Cool. The Unitar ! I have the Goodrich book. It can be quite maddening.
It's a basic principle to learn to improvise: Limit your options and work out your possibilities within the limitations

Awesome ideas here.
There is this song from Whitey called "Sweet Words For The Sour" which uses that in the most creative way I've ever heard. Starts at 1:38.
Mike Landau (L.A session legend) is a great example of tasty phrasing you can do along one string he's well worth a listen:) These lessons/this channel is superb :-)
I think your a good teacher bro, enjoy all your videos, keep it going !!!!
Great lesson idea; I will play around with this. Amazing how thoroughly you can outshoot a lot of us even using only one string.
excellent vid, thanks, this is simple and right up my wheel-house.
Thanks Adrian, very interesting video, the best one I’ve seen of this one string soloing.
I like this teaching style, just show it. Also, this sounds great. I think I will experiment with this.
Great lesson Andy!
Holy cr*p Adrian! When you said one-string soloing I was expecting Bahaus rather than Gary Moore. Brilliant!
'Well that was quite fun..'😂
Always take the road less traveled on...👍
Well done. Thank you.
This is a great exercise. Thanks Adrian!

Such a valuable lesson.
Unique idea never thought about it
Good advice Adrian - handy for when a string breaks to have 5 back ups too!
i love your videos, you have such a great way and approach to learning the guitar
Addy! Fantastic once again sir!
You should upload some of your live stage work sir!
👍🇦🇺
Yes - throw the book! Can't get enough of that tactic. ;-)

It's also a great way for people to learn the fretboard as well. Another good idea is to practice soloing without playing the root note.
Great concept! Nice video. 👍🎸
Great lesson, this is good to know if you ever break a string during a gig, and that will happen!
New perspective. Great video!
Quite. Excellent. Thanks
I love this guy.
that is actually insane, wow :)
Cool lesson dude!
Great advice. The one string solo in "Come As You Are" from Nirvana comes to my mind :)
you play so much better than me with just one string I might give up now
Nicely explained with wonderful execution, it looks like a lot of fun even though this type of blues isn't my bag. I am definitely going to try it, cheers Adrian 😎🎙🎸✅
I really need to revisit the Mick Goodrick book. It has been a long time, and I could benefit from it.
Too interesting n an eye plus option opener..... great less as always !
Your video on Im Set Free first made me realize you can do a mean solo with one string
HAAAAAAA LOVED IT!!!!! still cool!!!
I often sit on a two or three note solo to squeeze every last possible drop of blood out of it. Also forces you to get weird with timing because you'll eventually be so bored you kind of have to.
It's great also when you play live if you break a string , it just won't throw you at all
What control, I would have been itching to grab a G or tickle an E. But you pulled it off wonderfully on a B. Give yourself an A.
Brilliant
very nice...
What kind of guitar is that Adrian? It looks and sounds great.
did you not watch the whole video? around @10:50 he says.
@@ekw555 I posted while watching...then yes he did say.
Great intonation ...and fabulous phrasing.... this is a cool idea

wow!

Nice solo, very impressed! BTW What kind of guitar is that?

awesome
One string solos rule!!

This is basically Bernard Sumner's technique throughout New Order
the beano boost sounds wicked. does it have real pages of the beano inside to give it that special mojo?
Nice 👍
Too good
Can you do a tutorial for pity sex´s absolutely stunner "Wind Up" ? i can't figure out, how to play the solo :( would be so awesome!
I think Clapton did this in one of his solos but I can't remember which song it is?
Sounds phenomenal!!!...and what's the name and maker of that guitar ? It sounds awesome !!!...seems to be a love child of a prs starla and a tele !!!.
he says what it is @10:50
please enable subtitles. thanks!
Lovely 👏👏🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶💖
What guitar are you playing? Great lesson
It’s a Shergold Provocateur, I have one too, they’re great guitars!
Hero
Great logic! Question: Do you use a compressor pedal?
he does gear rundown at end of video. around @11:50 you can see the pedals.
@@ekw555 yes I know. He wasn't using a compression pedal in this video. My question was does he use one at times and how it effects the sound.
Yo Mick Goodrick ! ;)
Could you teach "Vacuum Boots" by The Brian Jones Town Massacre?
wow you are great! like 698 and new follower
Dang !!! I bet you could do a solo with no strings !!!!
Just one string - play some The Cure solos.
That’s what I did in the first month I taught myself guitar, broke an E string.
Great exercise for when you break an E string, lol!
dude I thought i was alone
One string solos? Billy Duffy - The Cult.
