I love the Ralph Lauren look ! Been gathering and collecting for 40 years..never have gotten tired of any of it!! Lots of plaid..tarnished silver..trophies, dog figures..hunt scene art..as well as velvet riding helmets..crops etc such fun
Your best piece of advice was "don't look at the internet, look at books on this style". I think the key to Ralph Lauren's style is that it's a mix of several timeless styles. I like English, Scottish and Irish Country pre 1940, American Farmhouse 19th century, and some Victorian, with some smaller objects from Asia. I've never seen a quality rug in a thrift store, but antique stores will have them. Good quality brown furniture is such a good deal right now, because it's "out", and it will last WAY longer than the cheaper new stuff. But the best reason for decorating this way is that you can have a very comfortable home without all the toxic chemicals new furniture is fulled with.
I love the Ralph Lauren look and his American success story. This look is classic and it makes me feel like I come from "old money", lol - NOT but fun to get the look.
A few years ago, I realized I could no longer follow trends because I have a lifetime of things with a story that had to be included in my home. English country works perfectly for that look. Love your tips and furniture finds -- around here, Central Alberta, quality send hand furniture is a rare find indeed. "New" part of the country.
yes it sure does! thank you. I hear you about the furniture. It's a bit better here but nothing like when I was on the East Coast of the US. To say nothing of Europe!
I love this look! I happened to find a tablecloth that was perfect for what I was looking for and it turned out to be a Ralph Lauren!! I was so excited! Thank you for sharing these ideas. I need to find some plaid items now.
This was a really good video. Thank you. I've been trying to decorate my guest room as I have a guest coming to stay for a week in a few months. I want the room to have that english look and feel as if i5s decor has been there for years. Maybe the Ralph Lauren look is the one to follow. Also your home is really taking shape. It is getting warmer and more beautiful in each video. 😊
How did you know I was just about to search for “Ralph Lauren” and your video was already showing up in my feed!? I have love RL ever since I was 10 years old when I saw their 80s & 90s ads.
We have a small home, but in our narrow entry way I have a dark wooden foyer table (not authentic, very cheap but it “looks” the part) and I decorated it with British Colonial style items (globe, tropical plant, old books, etc) and it looks like all those little things someone picked up on their world travels. In addition, I found a print from my favorite artist Albert Beirstadt and I was able to get it framed at Hobby Lobby in the most gorgeous ornate gold frame. Good artwork or replicas make a huge difference!!
Such great timing for this video! I was just looking at a sample book of Ralph Lauren grasscloth wallpaper the other day. Just a dream right now but still so beautiful.
Bokhara rugs are not flat weave. They just have a short nap. They are hand knotted. I have had them in my homes. Can we stop using books as decor? I buy books because I READ ALOT.
What is your favorite part of the Ralph Lauren look? What draws you to it? Why?

I had a friend come over one day and asked if I wanted help cleaning my silver. Haha. It's been tarnished for 50 yrs. That's just the way I like it.
@@irisstormo6913 love that :)

I love their equestrian style, the British countryside look, and their Safari-esque designs.

I hear you! I only buy books to read…but they are very beautiful 🤩
@@OldWorldFarmHouse I usually only buy hard cover books because they last longer, but I still only buy them to read.
