Erm... I see lots of comments about how easy/safe this place is. It isn't, and for many its completely unmanageable. Yes I know that camera perspective can make it look more severe but that doesn't have any affect on how safe the whole place is, or isnt. I didn't spot any mention of the third pinnacle in the comments made so I'll do that here. Unless you abandon the walk or climb a long way down a difficult (and yes, in places, dangerous) slope, there isn't a safe way over or round this pinnacle as you have to take at least one step where a slip could easily lead to a near vertical fall of a few hundred feet. Being capable of taking that risk on a personal basis and taking those steps does not make it safe and certainly not for all that might attempt it. I'm sure some will disagree with me about this but I'm also sure that the families of all the people that have died or got injured on Crib Goch would agree with me. So would the Mountain Rescue teams (and their families) as they frequently have to risk their own lives saving the lives of others doing these activities. They don't get paid for rescuing people by the way. I don't have any information on the casualties but I suspect it will be a mix of people of all ages from the least experienced/capable to others who are experienced and think that nothing ever goes wrong. Sorry for the nag but it needed saying. There are over 100 thousand views so these remarks could mislead inexperienced people to come here unprepared for the risks that do exist. I wouldn't want to discourage people from going to places like this but they should do so on the basis that they know what lies ahead and are prepared for it and able to make correct decisions and risk assessments. If you want to walk on mountains there are many that are much safer than this ridge with views etc that are just as good.
Welll... thanks for your comment, and I respect your view. I largely disagree though. Crib Goch, via any of the variations, is a Grade 1 scramble. There are only a few sections that are truly technical - for the most part you will find equally difficult terrain on some of the footpaths that approach Snowdon and the surrounding peaks. The problem with Crib Goch isn't really how technical the terrain - it's the decisions made by those who get into trouble. They drive a long way to 'bag that route', they do not wear appropriate footwear and they lack the skills to adequately assess the risks of completing that route on that particular day. High winds, poor visibility and slippery ground conditions are the hazards on this route - not the route itself. Llanberis MRT have an excellent social media feed these days that works to educate and inform their audience. You will notice that they do not criticise those that they rescue, nor say that they should not have been there. As for the Mountain Rescue comments - at best you are naïve and at worst disingenuous. Do you think that Mountain Rescue teams are made up of grumpy bastards sitting in a hut at the bottom of the mountain, waiting for a callout so they can go risk their lives? What do you think the team members are doing the rest of the time? MRTs are made up of a broad spectrum of the local society - but generally they are all outdoor enthusiasts and very often they are also _outdoor professionals_ . They're guides, instructors, leaders and explorers. They spend their working days leading groups over routes like this and working to educate people about how to stay safe and enjoy these wild and remote places. You should see the stuff they get up to on their days off... should I link out to the video of the Chairman of the local team wandering along this route in winter conditions while filming himself with a drone? Invoking the ghosts of " _ the families of all the people that have died or got injured on Crib Goch_ " is a lazy and generalist statement worthy of the Daily Mail comments section.
I took my girlfriend 2 year back, we did the three peaks over the space of 4 days getting her into it. We started in Wales, she walked the whole thing without any issue at all. She said it was easy and she's scared of heights. Stop fear mongering, people take note of these things. People should be aware, it's deadly and can go wrong quick. But it's an easy little shuffle along with plenty room (as the video shows)

Grade 1 scrambling may be easy for most people but those without a head for heights may not want to take big risks on narrow (and often slippery) ledges with fatal drops to one side. That third pinnacle on Crib Goch is extremely dangerous. Labelling it as "grade 1" lulls the unwary into a false sense of security, plus there's huge pressure to get it all over with given the unappealing alternatives after it's reached. It's astonishing that there aren't warning signs and fixed ropes.

At the summit they were enthusiastically told about the "path" over Crib Goch and Crib Y Ddysgl, and decided to try it on the way back down. Let's just say they bitterly regretted that decision. Inexperienced people with little respect for the mountains are often oblivious to the dangers. And the authorities must share in the blame as they don't see any need to warn the unwary of the risks. Ironically, the same authorities were quick to ban mountain walks altogether (in sanitising uv light with excellent ventilation) as soon as spending time indoors became a risky activity during a pandemic.
I am terrified of heights after a bad experience scrambling, but absolutely love it more than anything else… I hope one day I’m brave enough to attempt this
I remember my dad made me walk this aged 11 he was ex paras I was bloody terrified I've hated that mountain ever since. It's worse on that knife-edge cliff when another walker comes the other way...its like now how do I pass without falling over the edge.
I feckin LOVE Crib Goch. I found it easy, but I've seen people have proper panic attacks up there. bigger and better people than me reduced to a blubbering mess. if you think you could do this, do it. Some find it easy, some find it hard.
The difficulty is not in the walking but in the exposure. If you are scared of heights then it's probably best to avoid it - otherwise there is no real problem. Aonoch Eagach in Glen Coe , Striding edge and Sharp edge in the Lake District are very similar but in dry weather none of them are really a problem.
That's it yh, the exposure is the challenge. I've done Striding and Sharp edge, I've also done Schoolhouse ridge in Glencoe and to the top of that Monroe, which was exposed enough, but I don't get easily phased out by exposure now, one of the easiest ways to tackle exposure, is to just love doing this sort of thing. In the Peak District, if you're from the UK, there's a hidden gem just past the small town of Castleton, call The Winnats Ridges (two of them) off the Winnats Pass, they're only approx 150ft high each, but as exposed as Crib Goch, and for beginners, they're a good start at a real low height. I've done plenty of scrambles and ridge walk over the past three years, but I've about 23-4 years of experience on the rocks and climbing anyway.

Having said that the walking is not too difficult. To put it in context if you were walking on a 1 metre high wall around your garden you would not think twice about it and it would pose no difficulty. If you were walking on a similar wall between two high buildings and there was a 50m drop on both sides you would be a bit more nervous. The exposure on Crib Gogh is short but real.
I'd done Snowdon via Pyg Track ascending... and Miners Track decending. That was back in about 2009. I'm 58 now and if Crib Goch was in my plans....I'd be doing it via one of these guided walks for sure.
I did this once. It was the most frightening thing I’ve ever done in my life. I’m very scared of heights but for some reason I thought I could manage it (and I did). But just watching this terrifies me

Doing this in one month close to zero experience scrambling but have done lots of hikes, go to the gym a lot, buying some barefoot trail running shoes for it. Any tips please share I am quietly shitting myself looking how steep and big they drop is
I did crib Gonch a few months ago I’m really bad with heights but if the weather is good meaning nice clear day zero rain zero wind it’s quite easy to do well I thought it was

You are aware of the exposure but just keep looking at what you are doing and it's all over quicker than you think. This cured my fear of heights. The second time I did it, I found it quite easy. It is such an adrenaline rush the first time. I recommend it.
Repeat exposure. I'm lucky to live in the western US and have clubbing friends that keep dragging my up rock climbs that terrify me but I'm slowly getting used to it
Alias of an alias I’m really bad with heights but I thought I’d have a go at crib Gonch with the help of my friends if you chose a clear day no wind or rain and make sure the rocks are bone dry I think it’s quite easy some of these go pro,s make it look worse than it is
I want to do this walk for the feeling afterwards. Always been scared of heights, but it doesn’t stop me taking on the mountains. Currently the only real “scrambling” experience I have is climbing up the side of Glastonbury Tor (not on the path) and I don’t think that will cut it XD
@@yoshihorror1948 there is big drops either side of you whilst trying to step over and having to climb rocks. In some places there are no handholds and you feel very exposed
Excellent video. Just been explaining to family how its safer than it looked on one of those fish eye GoPro videos.I've only done it once 10 years ago and could see the potential danger of it but it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be
This was the first ever walk an ex boyfriend took me on!! It was the most terrifying experience of my life. I remember clinging on and crying for a helicopter to come and save me!!
If you’ve done it four times then it can’t be scary as fuc£ for you; the ONLY people who can say that are those who have never done it and have no intention of doing so.
I don't know if this is a daft question , but is it one way ? I don't see many people passing each other , and not sure how it would be possible . I will stick to the Pyg or miners track as the drops each side would make me nervous . I did end up on my backside on the Pyg track !
Janet, I believe this is recommended as a route up, but not as a descent as its a bit difficult climbing down off the ridge at the end of the day. You do get that kind of syndrome on a lot of walks but this might explain why there is not much 2 way traffic on the ridge
It isn't strictly one-way, but time of day matters. In the morning you will find more people heading 'upwards' and in the afternoon it's more of a 70/30 mix.
Sailing to Calais is an easy 23 miles, but it can get hairy with a change of conditions. I think Crib Goch is not at all easy but can be in ideal conditions.
Completed it today and I think I know which bit you mean and I do totally agree it’s very very questionable when looking at it for the first time. Especially in bad conditions ids strongly reconsider this part but it’s there for people to try just be steady be strong and be safe!!!!!
Started the 14 peaks of wales sleeping on Snowdon, we set of at four in the morning and did this in the dark, we had done a few times, I was 15 and at school at St David’s we did the 14 peaks in 12 hours, oh to be young and fit, this was 1980 I think!!!!
okay it's not as hard as it looks i am twelve years old and i climbed my first mountain at the age o six and once i climbed mount Snowdan on Christmas day and at the age of eleven, i climbed mount snowdan via the crib goch route the and the it was wasn't easy but it was very fun doing the scrambling bit before the ridge. and anyway the ridge only seems more dangerous because you can see the edge very clearly in fact the ridge is more dangerous on helvellyn striding edge which was the first mountain i climbed at the age of six
Been up Snowdon 3 times but never via Crib Goch! It's not the knife edge or anything that I fear, it's the people around me. This was a very well organised climb, but I've seen people at the intersect with the Pig/Miners path going up in flip flops and sandles - knowing that I'll spend my time talking them out of it or watching them tumble down!
In my experience, there are a lot of climbing routes that look easier and less steep from a distance but when you get up there, you realise you're in the shit. Conversely, there are things look scary from a distance that are fairly comfortable when you're up there. I haven't done CB yet, so without authority, I would imagine it isn't quite as precarious on the left side as this looks, otherwise the types of people we can see making it across simply wouldn't stand a chance. That said, this place is obviously no joke and is dangerous, so caution would be an absolute must.

A day out and a scramble is not worth risking your life for. One slip and a hundred foot drop onto jagged rocks, daft unless you're an adventure addict. Everest like queue's and rock-climbing exposure to the elements, oh what fun!
No chance i could do this. Im terrified of heights but i have this weird impulse of letting go or jumping from high places. It's not like suicidal thoughts. Im not sure how to explain it tbh Shit i just looked this up and it's a real thing called high place phenomenon....hooray for me not being crazy!!

How things have changed! I did all this stuff in the Seventies and never thought about it! We didn't have mobile phones with GPS then, we just had your compass and map. No need for all the drama!!!
A realistic view: FULL OF PEOPLE. I think if I were to ever go there I wouldn't be in a one way queue walking across it, I would climb up the side and go over it instead.
I don’t understand how this route could be included in any video as a “trail run”. This is all about mountain climbing. Not even a hike. Where’s the running? Where’s even the walking, which is included in a an “ultra”?
The view might be realistic due to the lens used; but it doesn’t change the fact that if one fell off either side one would suffer a horrific death. I had to switch off this video after 3 minutes as it gave me vertigo whilst seated in my armchair.
I have a friend that likes to climb in flip flops, says it gives him best feel for the rocks , am going there next week, what brand of flip flops would you recommend please..have got kendal mint cake and phone if I need to call mountain rescue so should be fine..also got the deliver app just in case I need to spend the night on the mountain, at least I won't be hungry..
Silly idea. Another poor lady lost her life here recently. Is it really worth the risk, I mean REALLY worth it? Anyone can trip, a gust of wind could catch you off guard and topple your balance. For me, life is way to precious of a gift to take the chance....!

Lovely day for it! I've done Crib Goch and Snowdon countless times, only seen the view once and it was a sheet of white (winter climb) Stunning non the less. Just reading your description and my ultimate bug bare around the more popular mountains is ascending in shorts t-shirt and trainers. These are mountains people, you are setting yourself up for pain by not being prepared. (I witnessed one fellow going up Ben Nevis in flip-flops, middle of June... Still ice as you approach the summit! Bet he had fun with that)
You will get some distortion on any camera with a wide angle lens, but this is about as straight as you will get for a moving shot from a GoPro (Hero 4 Session in this case). This is not a 'fisheye' view, there are plenty of other Crib Goch traverse videos that exaggerate the height and exposure through the lens distortion built into the firmware (SuperWide etc). Have you been up there, or traversed many arete routes? This one has a curved ridge on either side (Y Lliwedd and the one between Crib Y Ddysgl and Cyrn Las) which does give the impression that the edge of the frame is more curved than it should be. Parallax vertigo is quite common for people traversing this route as the sides are very steep (vertical in some spots) and the sense of movement is exaggerated by what the brain is sensing in the periphery.
Love how people make this out to be a major thing. My exes dog crossed it ffs. It's not a big deal at all. It looks harsh. You could have a comfortable bbq in places
Huge swathes of people these days are infinitely less intelligent than a fart who blindly venture into the unknown, or anything highly dangerous and potentially fatal. If you’re contemplating this, you need to have above average physical strength in your legs, arms, and hands; plus you body weight needs to be as low as possible ie 10 Stones if you’re an adult, so that should you be in the unfortunate situation where you are hanging off with your hand, you can haul yourself up to safety. Lastly you need a pair of decent hiking boots, and suitable leather gloves. if you don’t have all of the above don’t attempt it.

I've took the grib goch route but I won't do it again as it takes several fatalities a year. I think this route is for experienced mountaineers

Alias of an alias I’m really bad with heights but I thought I’d have a go at crib Gonch with the help of my friends if you chose a clear day no wind or rain and make sure the rocks are bone dry I think it’s quite easy some of these go pro,s make it look worse than it is
I want to do this walk for the feeling afterwards. Always been scared of heights, but it doesn’t stop me taking on the mountains. Currently the only real “scrambling” experience I have is climbing up the side of Glastonbury Tor (not on the path) and I don’t think that will cut it XD

@@yoshihorror1948 there is big drops either side of you whilst trying to step over and having to climb rocks. In some places there are no handholds and you feel very exposed

Excellent video. Just been explaining to family how its safer than it looked on one of those fish eye GoPro videos.I've only done it once 10 years ago and could see the potential danger of it but it was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be

This was the first ever walk an ex boyfriend took me on!! It was the most terrifying experience of my life. I remember clinging on and crying for a helicopter to come and save me!!
Crib Goch is still scary af for me. And I've done it 4 times.

I don't know if this is a daft question , but is it one way ? I don't see many people passing each other , and not sure how it would be possible . I will stick to the Pyg or miners track as the drops each side would make me nervous . I did end up on my backside on the Pyg track !
Janet, I believe this is recommended as a route up, but not as a descent as its a bit difficult climbing down off the ridge at the end of the day. You do get that kind of syndrome on a lot of walks but this might explain why there is not much 2 way traffic on the ridge
It isn't strictly one-way, but time of day matters. In the morning you will find more people heading 'upwards' and in the afternoon it's more of a 70/30 mix.
Sailing to Calais is an easy 23 miles, but it can get hairy with a change of conditions. I think Crib Goch is not at all easy but can be in ideal conditions.
Do you have to do that bit on the way down too?? How on earth would you climb back down on that rock
Completed it today and I think I know which bit you mean and I do totally agree it’s very very questionable when looking at it for the first time. Especially in bad conditions ids strongly reconsider this part but it’s there for people to try just be steady be strong and be safe!!!!!
Started the 14 peaks of wales sleeping on Snowdon, we set of at four in the morning and did this in the dark, we had done a few times, I was 15 and at school at St David’s we did the 14 peaks in 12 hours, oh to be young and fit, this was 1980 I think!!!!

I believe this ridge loses about one person a year. In my 20s I've 'jogged down' here in about an hour and a half. In retrospect, it seems insane.

okay it's not as hard as it looks i am twelve years old and i climbed my first mountain at the age o six and once i climbed mount Snowdan on Christmas day and at the age of eleven, i climbed mount snowdan via the crib goch route the and the it was wasn't easy but it was very fun doing the scrambling bit before the ridge. and anyway the ridge only seems more dangerous because you can see the edge very clearly in fact the ridge is more dangerous on helvellyn striding edge which was the first mountain i climbed at the age of six

Been up Snowdon 3 times but never via Crib Goch! It's not the knife edge or anything that I fear, it's the people around me. This was a very well organised climb, but I've seen people at the intersect with the Pig/Miners path going up in flip flops and sandles - knowing that I'll spend my time talking them out of it or watching them tumble down!
Just out of shot, there is a McDonalds. I love these videos, I couldn't do it I'm sure but it gives me a thrill just watching.
In my experience, there are a lot of climbing routes that look easier and less steep from a distance but when you get up there, you realise you're in the shit. Conversely, there are things look scary from a distance that are fairly comfortable when you're up there. I haven't done CB yet, so without authority, I would imagine it isn't quite as precarious on the left side as this looks, otherwise the types of people we can see making it across simply wouldn't stand a chance. That said, this place is obviously no joke and is dangerous, so caution would be an absolute must.

1 inexperienced + frightened / lots o respect for the rock / very careful / slow ( which is ok )
Ive done it once never again going up again Wednesday be sticking to the miner's route

No chance i could do this. Im terrified of heights but i have this weird impulse of letting go or jumping from high places. It's not like suicidal thoughts. Im not sure how to explain it tbh

I don’t understand how this route could be included in any video as a “trail run”. This is all about mountain climbing. Not even a hike. Where’s the running? Where’s even the walking, which is included in a an “ultra”?
The view might be realistic due to the lens used; but it doesn’t change the fact that if one fell off either side one would suffer a horrific death. I had to switch off this video after 3 minutes as it gave me vertigo whilst seated in my armchair.
I have a friend that likes to climb in flip flops, says it gives him best feel for the rocks , am going there next week, what brand of flip flops would you recommend please..have got kendal mint cake and phone if I need to call mountain rescue so should be fine..also got the deliver app just in case I need to spend the night on the mountain, at least I won't be hungry..
Silly idea. Another poor lady lost her life here recently. Is it really worth the risk, I mean REALLY worth it? Anyone can trip, a gust of wind could catch you off guard and topple your balance. For me, life is way to precious of a gift to take the chance....!

Lovely day for it! I've done Crib Goch and Snowdon countless times, only seen the view once and it was a sheet of white (winter climb) Stunning non the less.
Just reading your description and my ultimate bug bare around the more popular mountains is ascending in shorts t-shirt and trainers. These are mountains people, you are setting yourself up for pain by not being prepared. (I witnessed one fellow going up Ben Nevis in flip-flops, middle of June... Still ice as you approach the summit! Bet he had fun with that)
Fisheye is very realistic if you are a fish

Is a wide angle lens something about 14 and 22 mm, if the real orizon is curved like that the world would be the size of Galles
You will get some distortion on any camera with a wide angle lens, but this is about as straight as you will get for a moving shot from a GoPro (Hero 4 Session in this case). This is not a 'fisheye' view, there are plenty of other Crib Goch traverse videos that exaggerate the height and exposure through the lens distortion built into the firmware (SuperWide etc).
Have you been up there, or traversed many arete routes? This one has a curved ridge on either side (Y Lliwedd and the one between Crib Y Ddysgl and Cyrn Las) which does give the impression that the edge of the frame is more curved than it should be. Parallax vertigo is quite common for people traversing this route as the sides are very steep (vertical in some spots) and the sense of movement is exaggerated by what the brain is sensing in the periphery.

Huge swathes of people these days are infinitely less intelligent than a fart who blindly venture into the unknown, or anything highly dangerous and potentially fatal. If you’re contemplating this, you need to have above average physical strength in your legs, arms, and hands; plus you body weight needs to be as low as possible ie 10 Stones if you’re an adult, so that should you be in the unfortunate situation where you are hanging off with your hand, you can haul yourself up to safety. Lastly you need a pair of decent hiking boots, and suitable leather gloves. if you don’t have all of the above don’t attempt it.

Martin, Come here, Do it with an experienced person, You can find on instagram etc, You will not understand why people do it until you do it your self, because Words cant explain how you feel up there, Its called Experiance, You can be safe, and you can Cross it, Or you can Take each section step by step and every 1 step you do, is 1 step less, I have NOT done it yet, But Its on 2019, I live on Anglesey and ONLY EVER WENT UP SNOWDON 2 weeks ago, Im 32, My only regret is NOT going up sooner in my life :) Do it, I can hook you up with someone also.
