  • On Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, there's a summer tradition: "mail jumping". It's a bit dangerous, a bit ridiculous, and would never be allowed to start today. But it's a tradition. ■ Thanks to the Lake Geneva Cruise Line: www.cruiselakegeneva.com/

@@Timeyy The postal service in the USA isn't perfect, but it is very good compared to a lot of other countries in terms of how well it actually does work.
It was designed around rural parameters, and before rail and cars and whatnot. The US is preposterously large, and a good portion of people don't live anywhere near anything even resembling a city.
Coast to coast is well over 40 hours of driving. That's more than a work week to just traverse the country, with no stops.
Paris to Moscow is only 30 hours.

What's fascinating to me is how, despite his lack of athleticism, Tom seems to have a very clear grasp of what his body is doing at any given time. You see it in a lot of the videos he puts on Tom Scott Plus - he really goes through what he's trying to make his body do, what it is doing, and how he can correct it - and for anything from gross-scale things like blacksmithing, stage combat, or parkour to fine-scale things like vocal control or throwing pottery.

I feel like Tom is going through my random UA-cam history and doing all the things I've learned about. I love it!

I love all of your videos but this has to be my favorite so far. So simple and fun while being informative about this interesting little tradition.

There's a place called house on the rock in Wisconsin, there's something called the infinity room, an automatic orchestra, the worlds largest carousel, and a bunch of other wild things you'd probably like.

Whenever Tom starts a video with "This is objectively a bad idea" you know you will enjoy said video

Since you seemed to enjoy delivering mail by boat so much: In Lehde (Spreewald) in Germany, about 60 houses have two mailboxes, one on the road side for winter, and one on the lake side for summer. Not sure which one is more physically demanding - the boat in Lehde doesn't even have an engine, you'd be punting it on the whole route.

Lived in this region most of my life and I've never heard of this. Absolutely amazing. Next thing you know, Tom's going to learn to play Hammer-Schlagen!

The best part about tom scott visiting your country is that he informs you of something you never knew existed in your own backyard.

I've never cheered so loud at a UA-cam video, as I did when Tom kissed the goose and made it back on board.
