I've had one of these for a few years. 1. Clumsy operation (by me), broke the autochoke connection which Outbax replaced under warranty. 2. Solenoid failed after about 18 months. I replaced that. 3. I replaced the standard spark plug with a colder one. Ie 7 instead of 6 ngk. 4. It's used at least 2 hrs daily, running dishwasher (1500w), clothes dryer (2000w) and air fryer (1800w). Not all together of course. 5. I've done several carby overhauls due to water in the fuel. 6. I use auction type device for oil changes. I cannot imagine any other way being convenient. 7. It cost me $900au when I bought it in 2020. 8. It's less than half the price to a comparable Honda. But the Honda isn't twice as good. 9. Overall, an economical generator giving good power, along with electric start and remote. (That added $400 ) to the base price.
Great video. I know a few people that have had these Gentrax generators for years now and absolutely love them. Awesome value for money that’s for sure.
Thanks for the nice comment! Wasn’t too sure on whether to post it or not as it’s my first one! I love the generator my self havn’t had any issue with it thanks!
Thank you so much for this video. I also bought one because of the current storms and flooding happening. I had no idea they needed oil and wouldn't have known how to use it without your help. Appreciate it
Bare in mind they require fuel... Though solar requires sun, wind turbine requires wind. I wouldn't take my chances relying upon something man made (Petrol) over nature (Sun/Wind). Though i brought one only for extreem weeks without sun. 8KW Battery Bank 24V, 4Kw Solar array is what i use, cut ties to electric company as im a grown up. These gens are great though, just expect food to end, fuel to cease and electricity to um.. be disruted.
Great vdeo mate just bought it bout to go offgrid and not running anything heavy like AC or Microwave so to know it carried the power al the way through for 3 days straight gives great confidence cant wait to put the lil beast in action. Cheers 👍🏽
im looking to buy a second hand generator today so that if/when power goes out i can have some power at home/camping trips - once i buy it do i just have to buy a heavy duty extension cord plus some kind of double/triple adapter and then i can plug in my tv / internet / fridge and phone charges plus some led lights ? any advice is great ? I was looking at a big dewalt generator but its not an inverter
These Gentax generators I consider to be an average unit. They're not designed to be run on a regular basis. Gentax are only good as a stop gap when your primary generator is in being serviced. We live on a yacht so we're dependant on a reliable generator for cloudy, rainy days but we do have 1.3KW of solar. Our Gentax stoped working just after 6months of semi-regular use. It was 7months before we started using ours which means its now out of warranty now. The plastic bracket the pull start rope passes through broke now the pull start rope now gets caught and its wearing a hole in the cover. The cover to replace the spark plug is tiny so I could barely get my hand in. Pray you don't have to change a spark plug. Its a real nightmare. The spark plug tool they provide, completely useless at holding the spark plug in place which dropped during a spark plug replacement inside the inner plastic heat guard making it a full strip down of covers and a 2.5hr job to retrieve the spark plug. Changing oil are a mess unless you get a suction tube. We brought the Gentax 3.5KVA unit which I found cant deliver the full 3.2watts. I had to turn the amp draw down to 7.5 amp output on my bluetooth /Victron Phoneix inverter 3KVA /120amp charger. In conjuction am alo running an Enerdrive 60amp smart charger. The Gentax was labouring and loud. With the Engel 3.5KVA it didn't have an issue cranking up the output amperage on my Victron Inverter/charger to 10+amps with the Engel still quiet. What ever you do don't buy one from Outbax. They're terrible to deal with on anything when things go wrong. All their sales calls go overseas to people who are difficult to understand and who have a very basic understanding of the products. All in all my experience with Gentax has been a very disappointing and I regret not looking at the Engel range of generators first. Value for me you can't beat the Engel its a far better designed and thoughtfully built unit for the money. 4 year warranty compared to the Gentax 1 year warranty. The Engel 3500w generator was only 1600.00 with a membership with BCF compared with the 800.00 for the Gentax. Oil changes on the Engel are breeze it comes with a drain tube allowing for clean and easy oil changes with out messy oil spills. Spark plug replacement is very easy. The Engel is a very quiet unit when running even at full load. This Engel comes with an electric start option which my wife can operate the generator without me being there. So far I'm impressed with our Engel generator and ease of access to Engel support hotline in Brisbane. So you're speaking to an Australian which is peace of mind. BCF claim the Engel generator line is one of the best products ever to hit their floors with Engel Australia receiving just 12 warranty claims 2 where dead motherboards the other 10 were operator error. People had poured diesel into the generator tank. .
Hi there, we are in the same boat LOL. I have a 42 Beneteau but not living on it and my Fisher Panda has finally died and it was about 7kva to run the air con and all 110v system being a US boat. I have a couple of 120w solar panels and thinking of upgrading to bigger ones. Most of the time the batteries 6x 130amp crystal lead pure energy which are awesome and had them for 5 years now but not so good on cloudy days and my alternator needs replacing. So thought I would get a cheap generator to charge the batteries and have similar charger to you the Victron Multiplus 120 amp 3000 watt. I was told a 2400watt generator would be ok to run the charger at 120amps but you are saying you can only set the charger to 10amps max. This does not sound good at all as I really want to run at 80amps minimum. what sized generator do I need. Cheers Tim
@@MrTimEdmunds We use a minimum 3500 watt generator running a 60amp lithium Enerdrive charger and a Victron Multiplus 120 amp 3000watt inverter charger into a 400watt litithum a battery bank/ if the batteries are down to 20% SoC it takes under 1.5hrs to fully charge batteries . its awesome. we have 1.28kw of solar. Our lithium batteries can absord a high rate of charge. with solar and charging its between 230watts going into our batteries.
Heya thanks for the video 🙋♀️ I'm living off grid in northern victoria so all weather here at anytime hot/cold. Wanted it for less noise than a normal geni, not to bother neighbours on a hot night and brake the noise rules :p what do you think of the noise?
Thanks so much ! Planning big trip in couple of weeks but I’ve started it up once a month in the shed and it’s been running no worries, make sure you turn fuel off and it runs itself out to get all fuel out of carbi is a good tip
Could have given more info in your " review. Dry weight? Weight with fuel and oil? Whats the noise level at at 7 meters/ 10 meters? How much ? Whats the warranty with this?
Piss off mick I’m no professional it’s just a set up starting video if you want to know all of that do your proper re-search and go buy your own noise instrument
And you are ?? Not sure what qualifications you have but you really need to do your homework before you come out with your comments which are totally wrong 🙄
Yeah mate ofcourse my fridge is 12 volt and 240 so when it senses 240 power it automatically takes that first. It charges my batteries and has aircon on all at same time 👍🏻

Aww thank you so much!! Hoping to make future videos so please subscribe and stay safe out there
Great video. Clear and easy to understand instructions. Keep up the good work mate.
I just bought one yesterday so this really helps thank you for doing this video
No worries mate I’m currently traveling aus and mine still going strong
Great video, thanks mate
Thanks for sharing mate, these will be going out the door like hotcakes, with all the electricity issues we're about to have!

Hey mate im about to embark on a similar adventure, just wondering how yours went and it it lived up to it
Mine doesn't sound as noisy as what yours did on the video. Videos don't always reflect things exactly though. Good on ya!
Thanks for the review mate been looking at getting exactly the same and was wondering how it would go. Cheers.
All good mate I’m traveling aus right now and it hasn’t missed a beat
Thanks for the reply mate good enough for me I’m getting exactly the same. Happy travels 👍

How did it go running the aircon on heat mode? Was that a problem?
Sorry mate my heat didn’t work on this air con !! Disel heater would be way better if you want a heater

It’s not as good as a Honda for noise but I have it about 20 metres away and can’t hear it in the van
Hi, I'm very tempted to purchase one of these bad boys. Just seeing if it's still going strong with no issues?
No dramas at all mate
Also looking at buying one mate can I ask how’s it going? A couple years later?
Hey there mate, How's the genny going these days. Looking at getting one.
Still all good mate I started it in the shed other day
be careful they may leak oil, mine does
Mines still going Awsome had it running aircon for 4-5 hours other day out at nsw
Good video mate, any problems with the gentrax so far?
Thanks so much !

@@udiedby2h i use alkylate 4-stroke petrol instead of regular unleaded. Stays fresh for many years. Dont have to run it dry that way every time.
Got this same model, but mine won’t start….. checked the oil, fuel, all the switches etc and nothing…
Mine would not either opened up the air filter area and sprayed some aero start into carny started up straight away and did not stop.
First time start needs at least 20/30 good pulls before it fires up. Thought mine was broken too but it runs fine after that first time workout
