  • How fast you can pedal up George Street, a two-block quad-buster that was a training ground for 1899 world champion Major Taylor? It's one rider at a time against the clock in this steep uphill time trial in downtown Worcester, presented by Landry's Bicycles and the Seven Hills Wheelmen. The distance is 500 feet, and the average grade is 18 percent. The contest is open to riders age 12 and up. Proceeds benefit the Major Taylor Association, Inc.
    American bicycle racer Marshall Walter "Major" Taylor (1878-1932) was the world’s first black sports superstar. He was world cycling champion in 1899, American sprint champion in 1900, and set numerous track cycling records. Nicknamed “Major” in his youth in Indianapolis and later known as “the Worcester Whirlwind” after his adopted hometown in Massachusetts, he was the second African-American world champion in any sport (after Canadian-born bantamweight boxer George Dixon of Boston won his title in 1891). In the Jim Crow era of strict racial segregation, Taylor had to fight prejudice just to get on the starting line. He faced closed doors and open hostility with remarkable dignity. In his retirement he wrote his autobiography, “The Fastest Bicycle Rider in the World.”

    @Doug Jensen - Thank you so much for putting together and sharing such a warm piece. I had no idea who this person was, and so looked him up. Truly a fascinating invidivual. Especially telling is his gracefulness with which he dealt with and endured numerous tremendous obstacles. A group of former professional bicyclists even paid to have his remains exhumed and buried in Worchester, and had a plaque made, which states: "World's champion bicycle racer who came up the hard way without hatred in his heart, an honest, courageous and God-fearing, clean-living gentlemanly athlete. A credit to his race who always gave out his best. Gone but not forgotten."

      Thanks Scott! I have to admit that I shot the event mostly just for the fun of it, so it is really nice to hear that it also served to introduce others to Major Taylor and his accomplishments. A win-win for everyone.

    This was so cool to watch. The racers facial expressions , their calf muscles, their determination was great to see. I can’t believe how steep the first part was, especially from starting at the bottom of that hill. The photography showed what a challenge that was.
    At the end swing that it was a tribute ride made my heart strings pull. I’ll have to learn more about Major.
    Doug Jensen, you caught the emotion of this race.

    Great video Doug. I just got my FX6 and purchased your FX6 masterclass, it's a masterclass in making masterclasses!. I may have missed it but is Custom mode still 10-bit as long as you're shooting XAVC-I and not XAVC-L? For events like this I'll probably do S-Cinetone but want to stay 10-bit.

      Hi Tracy, thanks for signing up for the FX6 master class and I appeciate the nice comments. XAVC-I is always 10-bit regardless of whether the camera is running in Custom mode or CINE EI mode. If you need further info about the pros and cons of the various format options, please watch CHAPTER 05: RECORDING FORMATS again. vimeo.com/ondemand/fx6/

    Hi Doug, did you film this short movie with you 24-105 mm handheld? Thanks

    • @DougJensenVortexMedia
      @DougJensenVortexMedia  Рік тому +1

      Yes, Daniel, that's exactly the lens I used for most of it. There are also a few telephoto shots where I used my 70-200mm on a tripod.

    Hi Doug. Beautiful images as usual. (This is not a negative, but I have to ask why a couple of shots have been flipped L-R?). FX6? Are you using your new LUTs with S-Cinetone on this one?

    • @DougJensenVortexMedia
      @DougJensenVortexMedia  Рік тому +1

      Hi Raymond, quite a few of the shots have been flipped just as a way to give the images more variations in screen direction. I cound on most people never noticing. Yes, this footage was shot with S-CINETONE and I used my new LUTs as the first step of grading. The amount of grading on each shot varies.

    Great job Doug! Any word on a replacement for the Z280? What's the longevity of the Z280. I'm afraid to jump in now and miss something better in that class, but I've no idea what's next for Sony.

      Ha, ha, I have no idea what's next for Sony, either. They play things pretty close to the vest. The Z280 is is still the best camcorder on the market and I think it will be for a another year at least. From the time Sony announces a new camera until it is actually shipping can be months and months. So, if they haven't even announced a new camera yet, then I have to assume it will be a long time before we have a new camera in our hands. And why rush? The Z280 would be hard to improve upon. There are only a few changes I can think of that would be worth making on the replacement.

      Doug, I found a nice used Z280 with very low hours! My question is this: Are there different generations of chips, meaning that cameras made recently have an improved advantage over a camera made in previous years? Should I assume that a new Z280 in 2023 has better technology?

    • @DougJensenVortexMedia
      @DougJensenVortexMedia  Рік тому +1

      @@KYwx I'm sure that every Z280 is identical to every other Z280, regardless of when it was made. Assuming, of course, that all cameras have the same firmware updates. If you found a good deal, go for it.

      @DougJensenVortexMedia Is it possible to use the MEADSD02 adapter and record 4K XAVC-I 600Mb/s with the right card?
