@@attemptedunkindness3632 Corax also suffers from Gav Thorpe's inconsistency as a writer. Gav Thorpe was the main writer behind Corax, but its either he writes really good stuff like Deliverance Lost or total duds like the main story of Corax Anthology.
If youve heard, apparently shadow corax was a projection of some sort. And corax is still in the ravenspire somewhere, so we might get him back hopefully
He desired peace above all, when the emperor asked him to join the imperium his only request was that he bring peace to kiavahr and deliverence, to which the emperor replied he could bring order but peace was another thing entirely. Makes a lot more sense that he was willing to do all the evils of the great crusade when you look at it through this lens. The emperors dream would bring about true peace not order. Their dreams were the same. That is also why i believe they got along so well. It also explains his true rage at his brothers for betraying the imperium, explained by arghal tal as even more frightening than the demons of the warp themselves, more pure, "no it was not rage at all, this was wrath in physical form."
@@megafeendirk9616 To that end, I think Corvus may have once again been on to something that not even he realized: as he had already glimpsed a part of what actually goes into the Primarch, what he exhibits in "Shadows of the Past" may be an example of what the Primarchs were meant to be, all along. Am willing to bet that Corvus will be the first to realize that a Primarch was designed to switch between a physical and warp form for war on either front. Most other Primarchs handicap themselves by choosing a side. This is based off the speculation that all Primarchs are warp-born souls of ancient human myths given physical form by the Emperor's hand.
I've heard/read maybe 85% of the 30k stories and have played the 40k game since Rogue Trader first came out. With the scope of the 30k stories, I find it interesting how it is possible to follow the career side characters - those who are not one of the "big players". Someone who starts as a full-of-hope 10yr old in one book and has bit parts here and there as the years pass. One of my favourites for this was Nevar Hef (yes the 10yr old previously referred to). I didn't know that was how he died. The way you portrayed it here AK, well, it made the wind blow a bit of dust into my eye! Thank you for showing this grizzled owd vet that it is possible to get a tear from a stone. Thanks.
Yeah, mate. Navar Hef is such a great and tragic hero. He’s so proud and full of hope when first getting his geneseed and Astartes organs, and training and learning Corax’s Axioms. And it’s like the rug just gets pulled out from under him. The way he stays true and devoted to the Legion and his gene father, and just keeps on doing his duty despite the difficulties caused by the mutations is commendable. And I love that the other Raven Guard don’t treat them any differently. It’s sad that he went the way he did, but there was no other way- and I believe that it was right that Corax was the one to end them. It was horrific and depressing and unfair, but it was the right thing to do, and even though it came close to breaking Corax’s soul, it was ultimately an act of mercy. I was just surprised that he didn’t put all of their future efforts into destroying the Alpha Legion for their sabotage and treachery. It will be great to see him return from the Eye Of Terror, wreaking havoc and sowing terror amongst the traitors, and avenging his sons. Hopefully it happens soon.
@@tunguskalumberjack9987 I dunno, I was sorta with Corax towards Nevar after killing the Space Wolves. I was like "You. Did. What? *Prepares the Red Rooms*"
@@attemptedunkindness3632 Haha- yeah, you’re right. I didn’t even think of that when I was typing, there- that always seemed so out of character to me, for Hef to do that. Maybe you can chalk it up to him being so inexperienced and scared of what may happen to him, especially with his mind devolving as time went on, I don’t know. I totally agreed with Corax “euthanizing” them, it’s just a sad, no-win situation.
The relationship between Corax and the Emperor is some of the best counters to the idea the Big E saw his sons as nothing but tools. There were plenty of Primarchs that had toxic relationships with him, and the Emperor was absolutely a 'big picture' guy that would sacrifice anyone for his goals, but he was still a man, impossibly more of man than any other, and that meant he had emotions and feelings far beyond the average too. It's just unfortunte the first son to return in 40K was Guilliman, who no one really liked. Even then, the Emperor seems to care in his own, now God like ways.
Corax always knew his place. He was created not birthed and was a number and a weapon not a man. It seems the Emperor lacked ego and Corax had that in common with him.
@@cgavin1 That and corax fought FOR humanity, not for himself or even emps. This, this is the key to the love of emperor love, emps love nothing more then primarchs who treated humanity well. That the reason he asked about corax's "peace" to make sure he won't hurt the humans. This is why Vulcan, guiliman, sanguinius, horus, Magnus were most loved, because they treated humanity with respect and grace. Humanity above all else, nothing is more important that how big E thinks, follow same logic and you be loved.
Corax also contrasts with Angron, as he did what the latter could not: Led a successful slave/prisoner rebellion and delivered his people from oppression.
@@MrJordwalkthe problem with that is that the nails altered Angron's personality and even diminished one of his greatest gifts; empathic healing. Thank you for including "The Raven" Its adds really well. Another amazing chapter in this awesome saga of character exploration! Kudos to all the actors who participated!
Sadly they do not get much love from GW and the Fans RG fans are few It does not help that there lore can be summed up by "They keep losing with little to show for it" If the IF or UM suffer a great loss it comes with a great gain but the RG just lose straight up Then the times they do win its in these shadowy engagements and compared to the big fights and duels these types of engagements are not hyped up as much and that being the RGs staple they really suffer because of it. Also Corvus is a character a lot of people seem to not know much off People are surprised when they learn that they are most likely the second nicest legion after the Salamanders when it comes to the average imperial citizen and that extends to Corvus. he cared about humanity more than most of his brothers He is also a great craftsmen ,the RGS most prized artefacts are Power claws crafted by Corvus himself He is a brilliant strategist He also had one of the FEW positive relationships with the Emperor and to top that all off Hes the First primarch to understand there true potential Unlike the Daemon primarchs who took a shortcut via chaos to unlock warp powers , Corvus has unlocked that himself
Excellent use of "The Raven" throughout. A lot of readings of that work, even by the greats, have left me cold, but this worked really well. And as a W40K outsider I often confused Corvus with Conrad - the idea that one was the dark mirror of the other makes so much sense to me.

My favorite Primarch that is so often misunderstood or just ignored for being bird guy, thank you for this in depth analysis of Corvus (As an Alaskan, ravens have a major mythological connection to our history)
Aye, the fandom is often so insufferable. Especially for it's self-flanderization of characters, events or warhammer concepts. They take memes and headcanons as canon lore and go absolutely bonkers with it without any question or searching for validity, screeching this crap everywhere the moment said "warhammer meme lolz" thing is mentioned. They repeat the same thing over and over again. They are worse then the "arrow to the knee" Skyrim folks. "Dark armor, dark hair and bright skin? Terse and somber? Emoooooooooo!!!" I grew up in the dark alternative scene(Goth, EDM, Metal, Emo...). I don't get these people who make these simplistic connections. As far as I know Corax even hated poetry, yet the Ravens are getting depicted by fans as if they are constantly quoting hamlet and such. Let's be honest here. The RG are one of the legions who would most likely hate poetry and old fashioned plays, for they would perceive it as saccharine and unnecessarily wordy and flowery.
@@amberbaum4079 I think some of the memes are kinda funny but yeah it does get tiresome that a large portion seem to think Krieg only ever use shovels or that inquisitors exterminatus a planet everyday for giggles As for the Raven guard not liking poetry I can't speak as I haven't read much 30k stuff (but I doubt it) they seem to have more of that Poe-esq haunting determination that keeps you up at night contemplating how to kill someone and less of the poetry itself Besides poetry sounds more like a blood angel thing, I remember reading somewhere that they were artisans and respected all forms of art... Though Corvus is not my top loyalist primarch (that honour goes to the Lion), his arc in the Heresy is so heartbreaking which I feel some people miss out on cos of the memes depicting him as edgy. With Corvus, you go from a guy who firmly believed in the Imperial Truth to a man bereft of hope and forced to put down his mutated sons. That is some messed up stuff and that ending in Weregeld finished Corvus' arc beautifully. I hope we get a fleshed out chronicle of Corvus hunting Lorgar. Corax, the one son who was told of the warp from the beginning. The son trusted with secret knowledge, as well of his very own creation. A father that truly acted as such, Longer may have been the spitting image of the Emperor of Mankind, but Corax was his Heart.
@@r.cdahuman7682 it's said that he only told one of his sons of Chaos before the Heresy. @@codysing1223 while malacdor isn't always right, and lies as well, there are multiple reasons why he was probably right For one, he's one of the only Ones in the imperium prior to the heresy who knew about Chaos. He was the emperor's confidant and counsel, meaning he would most certainly be aware if the emperor decided to tell a primarch. He also says "we" only let one primarch know. There is also no reason at all for him to lie here, as it does nothing positive and possibly would do something negative in making sanguinus, rogal, and Khan distrust him. Also I don't think corvus was emps most favored son. Lorgar was said to look the "most" like, though since the emperor says in Deliverance lost he has looked like a lot of things maybe it's more accurate to say lorgar looks like him currently. It can also very much be said many if not most of the primarchs shared his dream for a unified humanity, pre and post heresy

Lorgar sought to do just that, using his brother’s midnight-blue armour as a crutch to haul himself to his feet. Curze bared his sharpened teeth. ‘You are the foulest weakling I have ever seen, Lorgar.’
Corax was not idle as this exchange took place.

There is a Word Bearer fan??
Corvus Corax is my personal favorite Primarch and Raven Guard are my personal favorite Legion/ Chapter. Glad they're finally getting attention. May Corvus come back to 40k with a vengeance.
I honestly find him to be the most terrifying of the loyalist primarchs. First time I ever read of him was in The First Heretic.
Yessssss
@@brentreimer6411 First Heretic is hell of an intro for Corvus. Also like how the forgettable Word Bearer author-self-placement remembrancer nonchalantly disregards the other remembrancer assigned to the XIXth a chapter before Istvaan because he had to. Corvus almost suffers from Perturabo's disease of too-many-writers, may he always remain forgotten and not a shitty Naruto shadow villain.
@@attemptedunkindness3632 Corax also suffers from Gav Thorpe's inconsistency as a writer. Gav Thorpe was the main writer behind Corax, but its either he writes really good stuff like Deliverance Lost or total duds like the main story of Corax Anthology.

Demon raven corax slapping warp entities like it’s m39999
Hear, hear!
As a Raven Guard player, this was a nice little treat. Now if we could just get a damn Demon Corvus mini so I can plop him on the table!
Hmm I'd personally prefer a Russ next, but I too want warp corax to follow hot on his heels
If youve heard, apparently shadow corax was a projection of some sort. And corax is still in the ravenspire somewhere, so we might get him back hopefully
@@sirkelendor5429I thought it said that he himself had gone into to warp to hunt down the traitors for vengeance for his sons and the imperium
Well, isn't Corvus the perfect example of a reasonable man turned to do unreasonable acts due to injustice.
Pretty reasonable across the board. Probably why most reasonable marine chapters spawn from him
He desired peace above all, when the emperor asked him to join the imperium his only request was that he bring peace to kiavahr and deliverence, to which the emperor replied he could bring order but peace was another thing entirely.
@@attemptedunkindness3632 zeitgeists abound, fiction mirroring reality
@@attemptedunkindness3632 i like this idea and hope they make a book about it.

"I am vengeance incarnate, I am justice delivered and I embrace my destiny. I will not let my suffering consume me, never more."
Thank you for including "The Raven" Its adds really well. Another amazing chapter in this awesome saga of character exploration! Kudos to all the actors who participated!
I've always felt like the Raven Guard are the most underrated legion and this video has only deepened that belief. Great work man!
Sadly they do not get much love from GW and the Fans
RG fans are few
It does not help that there lore can be summed up by
"They keep losing with little to show for it"
If the IF or UM suffer a great loss it comes with a great gain but the RG just lose straight up
Then the times they do win its in these shadowy engagements and compared to the big fights and duels these types of engagements are not hyped up as much and that being the RGs staple they really suffer because of it.
Also Corvus is a character a lot of people seem to not know much off
People are surprised when they learn that they are most likely the second nicest legion after the Salamanders when it comes to the average imperial citizen and that extends to Corvus. he cared about humanity more than most of his brothers
He is also a great craftsmen ,the RGS most prized artefacts are Power claws crafted by Corvus himself
He is a brilliant strategist
He also had one of the FEW positive relationships with the Emperor
and to top that all off Hes the First primarch to understand there true potential
Unlike the Daemon primarchs who took a shortcut via chaos to unlock warp powers , Corvus has unlocked that himself
The voice acting for the primarchs and the emperor were absolutely amazing.
Awesome work. Corvus Corax is a pretty relatable character for a Primarch, very human.
Excellent use of "The Raven" throughout. A lot of readings of that work, even by the greats, have left me cold, but this worked really well.
And as a W40K outsider I often confused Corvus with Conrad - the idea that one was the dark mirror of the other makes so much sense to me.
First Vox in the Void drops "Ravenfall" then this? Splendid.
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a clapping.
As of asscheeks, gently clapping, clapping at my chamber door.
“Tis a visitor” I muttered, “Dummy thicc and nothing more”.

This is the single best video on my favorite primarch.
Not my favorite Primarch or Legion, but I can't deny Corax has a lot of well written stories (Raven's Flight for example). Personally looking forward to Alexis Pollux or Corswain as potential videos, but all of these are great.
Edit: The narration is the best, but the Poe narration was Warp damned *fantastic*
At of all the primarchs, I identify most with Corax.. although Alpharius is still my favorite.
Perturabo for me, I know he isn't the best temperament wise, but I had his same familial issues, but my favourite primarch is either Vulcan, pre heresy Fulgrim, Perturabo, or Roboute.
Raven Guard and Alpha Legion for the behind the scenes stuff is just so cool. Espionage, cloak and dagger, hit and run , shadow tactics. The most exciting way to wage war for me.
@@rexaxis3450 “Same familial issues.” I’m not sure that’s what you want to reveal. Because almost all of his issues are self caused.

You and Baldemort: every video makes me think “hmmm I could do with a contingent of these guys on the TT”
Couldn’t have asked for a better video on Corax. The best primarch for the loyalists deserved nothing but the best representation, and for that I thank you.
My favorite Primarch that is so often misunderstood or just ignored for being bird guy, thank you for this in depth analysis of Corvus
(As an Alaskan, ravens have a major mythological connection to our history)
@@amberbaum4079 I think some of the memes are kinda funny but yeah it does get tiresome that a large portion seem to think Krieg only ever use shovels or that inquisitors exterminatus a planet everyday for giggles
As for the Raven guard not liking poetry I can't speak as I haven't read much 30k stuff (but I doubt it) they seem to have more of that Poe-esq haunting determination that keeps you up at night contemplating how to kill someone and less of the poetry itself
Besides poetry sounds more like a blood angel thing, I remember reading somewhere that they were artisans and respected all forms of art...

Great video @Amber King! My highest compliments to you for another amazing in-depth video. Also, my highest praises to your fabulous voice actors Vox, Liam, and Curtis. You guys really pour the emotion into the defining scenes of the Heresy and this is coming from somebody who has practically devoted to most of the Heresy series haha. I think it would be a crime if you guys were not involved in a future Heresy TV show.
Or alternatively, a Lorgar return which will inevitably trigger a Corvus return.
An excellent, and exceptional presentation of who and what Corvus Corax is.

Corax, the one son who was told of the warp from the beginning.
The son trusted with secret knowledge, as well of his very own creation.
A father that truly acted as such, Longer may have been the spitting image of the Emperor of Mankind, but Corax was his Heart.
Is it confirmed he's the primarch who was told about Chaos?
@@r.cdahuman7682 it's said that he only told one of his sons of Chaos before the Heresy.
When Corax asked how he was number 19 right after he was told he had 17 brothers, the Emperor relented when Corax asked immediately after how he got here, within stone and ice.
He was told of the Warp, it's daemons, and the threat it posed to Humanity.

In Deliverance lost he tells Corax it is impossible to talk to the Emperor, for he isn't on Terra (technically)
But is possessed by the Emperor so he can speak personally with his favoured son, the one who shares his likeness as well as his dream.
@@codysing1223 while malacdor isn't always right, and lies as well, there are multiple reasons why he was probably right
For one, he's one of the only Ones in the imperium prior to the heresy who knew about Chaos.
