Great vid! I live in a province outside of PP. It's so much cheaper here. I rent a 2 bedroom, 3 story house for 200$ a month. I used to live in Phnom Penh, I miss the hustle and bustle but it's also quite nice to be in a peaceful place.
There's a lot of variation in rent even within the city. You can find cheap houses near industrial areas which aren't far from the CBD. It really depends on what you can tolerate or what you actually do when you are at home.
My wife and I LOVE your videos!! She has a little ADD and always tries to click off your videos before the "closing credit song." I love the "take care, comb your hair" and the rap at the end!

I love your videos man, I'm 32 and I'm already living out in SEA, my visa is running out here in Vietnam and I was looking for a place to hang out while I reapply for another 3 months. I might just skip the return ticket and hang out in Cambodia instead. Both my parents are retiring and I've been indoctrinating them into the Asia life and I'll be sending them this video. I'm sure they'll binge every video you have. Thanks for spending the time doing this. Great sense of humor. A+ all around dude.

Good report. I noticed in your vids you eat a lot of cheaper street food. How much would the cost of groceries increase per annum if one is mainly a carnivore and eat mostly imported steaks? 25%? 50%
Late here but yeah - another great and entertaining upload Ryan. Remember you can always save money by cutting down on the wife’s food. It’s the reason I had kids. When times get tough I put them on rations - 4d chess!
Interesting video. It hits the sweat $1000 pm spot for cheap living in an interesting place. If you had your own place in that cheap place, your costs would drop considerably as the rent is a sizeable constant; something to think about if you were to settle there?
A very interesting video, although it seems to me that there are some inaccuracies. I have no doubt that your numbers are accurate, but that's not the point. For example, you show your monthly expenses for food. But at the same time, travel expenses certainly also include food expenses. Thus, according to your own words, for about a quarter of the year you actually count your food expenses twice. I didn't pay attention, but I believe the same applies to some other expense items. And further. When you live together, expenses do not double. For example, if you cook dinner for two, you, of course, spend more food, but you do not waste more electricity. If I'm not mistaken, expenses for two are considered as expenses for one multiplied by 1.5 - 1.7. So when you calculate the costs for one by simply dividing by two the costs for two, your results are underestimated. This is, of course, just my personal opinion.
Congratulations for the video, but you forgot other fixed expenses, such as visa and health insurance. In kampot/kep, with $1,000 a month, you can make a decent living.
Wow thanks so much for this video! Funny informative and dare i say essential video if you're planning to make the move! Also a Canadian boi here planning on the big jump. My city (Toronto) is getting increasingly more insanely expensive, and unideal to live in, and this is something I always wanted to do for maybe a year or so. Maybe longer! Your video helped greatly with information I need. Thanks again! Sub'd!
Hi Ryan! I hear alot of foreigners say that Cambodia now is expensive. Has it risen alot since this video? Is it maybe time to make a new vid on the subject? Perhaps? Maybe? Please? 😂

Hello Ryan, very good work with your presentations. I am also a Canadian planning on moving to Asia. Would you be so kind if you know, how to/cost effective ways to transfer/send monies from a Canadian bank to Cambodia/Asia? Best Regards
Of course it's more expensive, but it's a capital city. It offers a lot more than Takeo - international restaurants, serviced condos with pools, a movie theatre, etc.
Good question. Not for me, but if you're not working (or not a dependent of someone who is), there would be. I think it's around 200-250 a year, but I'm not sure exactly.
Dude, it's really easy. I flew in to Siem Reap Nov 29. Gave them 35$ for regular visa. No questions asked. In and out. Got a Tuk Tuk. Went to the Amazing Residence hotel right off the river. 150 for 2 weeks. Contacted Dave does Cambodia (see youtube channel) by e-mail. How did I get his e-mail? Donated to his channel. Asked him for a good travel place to get my visa extension (one year). He sent me to a great place. Paid the regular fee (it was less than 300) and they called me around 8 days later, come pick it up. EVERYTHING here turned out to be easy. I get a little over 1000 per month social security, and can't spend it all. Run the AC in my 250 apartment, which is nice, 24/7 bill? 50. What are you waiting for? If my old ass can do it, anybody can.
Do you have to ”save” your used TP like in Ecuador? A new expat from France told me about all the places he’s lived and how they “Do-do it”. He said he’s never had to save used TP ever before!! He moved here from Philippines, Maylasia, etc.
Good video, very funny as well... but you are an out-of-control spender. Let's not ignore that many people move to Cambodia because of the low cost of living, which is attractive precisely to those on LIMITED incomes. While this video is applicable perhaps to those who work in Cambodia or who are independently wealthy, I don't think it is of much use to those - like myself - who have less money at their disposal. Not hating, but let's remember who the bigger audience is.
This guy is a liar, proof look at his transportation! Has a bike $169.00 a year. No way! Even a brand new bike would cost more a year to maintain no mention of lic/ins tags here 1gal est $3.00 x 365 days =scammer
@Tomas-ml9nv cambodia is more expensive than thailand. Cambodia has to import food also while thailand grows its own. There is smaller cities in thailand like Phuket that have less traffic than bangkok and it is nice. Cambodia is gross and run down, and they are charging basically western prices. Also the portions of food at restaurant are almost half what you get in thailand
If you were to put the bike on a six month use that would be $182.00 at one liter a day. Let's say this guy's numbers are right, does anyone want to live that way? My opinion someone says they live on around a thousand dollars a month, well their life is shit. No matter what country they go to. Because the locals live on less does not mean a foreigner can do that, especially a canadian or American! I just don't believe this guy! just out for a yt payday. The cost of living vids has always been a good click bait.
$8 a day for ALL groceries , snacks , beer & eating out????. You must be living on street food in the back blocks. An average meal in a western style cafe/ restaurant , nothing flash or classy start at $5 for a noodle stir fry . Sure , it’s easy to find a “meal”on the street for $2 bucks , but it’s pretty basic stuff. A popular burger joint near where you lived isn’t at all upmarket ,,,and the burgers are $7 & up & a coffee $2.50 . Groceries….$3 a litre of milk,, cheese $20 a kilo , shitty loaf of bread with 12 slices $3. Lucky supermarkets prices generally are HIGHER than what you pay in Australia.
