I am from Moldova, and it is indeed a beautiful country but very corrupt and poor. Government doesn't care about their people, lots of media propaganda, oligarchs rule this place. For a westerner it is definitely a great, cheap place to explore and enjoy the beautiful scenery, places, wineries, monasteries, etc. Moldova has a great deal to offer to tourists, and that agency surely overpriced your visit to Cricova knowing tourists = have money. The products sure they don't seem that expensive, but considering the average salary is 4000 lei (~200 Euros) it's needless to say it's nearly impossible to live off of that (groceries, bills, rent, transport, consider you want to buy a pair of shoes) for a month. Not mentioning the miserable pension our elders have to survive on, needing medication and all. It's just some of the factors that explain the huge rate of people, especially youth emigrating to Europe. Great video though, I wonder what was you impression walking through Piata Centrala (Central market) I guess you saw a lot of what I mentioned in the paragraph above, it's a depressing sight.
Thank you for writing all of that since a lot of people probably are unaware. I'm originally from Ukraine and the situation is very similar for most people as you described. It is very sad and appalling how rampant corruption is in the government. I do have hope that there will be changes for both countries on the horizon.
Yes, I know that in Ukraine there's a great deal of problems too unfortunately. Hopefully things will change in the future, but all I can see is that everyone's giving up on any hope for change. Since no matter how many protests there have been organized and any attempt to awaken the nation were countered with controlled media outlets, concerts to divert people from the issue and such. You'd think it ludicrous for the few (politicians) to take hostage and control an entire country. And yet it shows that it's perfectly possible. But again, maybe eventually things will look up both for Ukraine and Moldova.

@@astridsiregar well Muslims are a minority here. To be honest I haven't seen many women wearing hijab although I know we do have that. It depends honestly, some are very conservative others are more open minded. You should be okay, just don't mind others.

I am from Brazil. I was in Chisinau, Mondavia last month. People are very nice. You can make friends very easy. Cost of living is very cheap. Mondavia is growing and you can feel that it will be one of the best country to visit in Europe in a near future. I didn't like the central market in the middle of Chisinau. It seems that you went to past 80 years ago. Anyway, I will be back again.

I went to Moldova on my first short term mission trip and it was a wonderful heart-breaking experience. I made lifelong friends there and would love to return someday soon. The people are gracious and kind even though they have it tough there.

Awesome video! It's nice to see more tourists visiting Moldova. I worked as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer and served in Moldova for two years. I spent so much time in Chisinau for both work and leisure. Your video really brought back a lot of great memories. Fun fact, I think my friends and I stayed in that exact same apartment you rented through Airbnb! Unless there's another apartment somewhere in Chisinau with the same decor/furnishings, I'm pretty sure it's the exact same one (I recognized the dining table, livingroom arrangement, and that frosted window that connects the bathroom and the kitchen, lol).
I would love to visit. The pace and normalcy reminds me of America in the 70's. I don't recognize this United States in which I live today. This was as lovely a presentation as our guide was beautiful and informative.
My cousin and I arrived in Chisinau today and one of the things we’ve learned is that if you’re not ready to get drunk, you better let people here know before you accept a drink. It is kind of rude to do it mid-drinking lol The wine from here should be exported. It’s amazing! People here are super nice, hospitable and fun. So far, great experience!

The elders that don't work anymore get something like 50 dollars per month here. While the costs for heating the house are way above 300 dollars during winter, and this is for average temperature.
Yes, absolutely the prices are incredibly high for the average person who lives there. I was just comparing it for Western travellers since many people travel to places like London and Paris and spend so much money not considering there's other great places they could travel to for much less :)

Moldova is SUCH a beautiful country. Earlier this year in the Summer I applied to the Peace Corps in Moldova and have an interview this next week for the position. The country is beautiful and I hope one day that the same can be said for it's economy and any corruption still found there. Thanks for making such an awesome video!
I am enjoying a covid-19 day watching a few of your videos and dreaming about traveling again. I have done a lot of travel through the Pacific Rim, Southeast Asia, Middle-East, United States, and Canada (I'm an Atlantic Canadian). When traveling back from the Persian Gulf region, I would often take advantage of a cheap stop-over in one of the major European destinations. I never gave Eastern Europe a thought. Not anymore! The more "exotic" destinations are on my go to list now. Those prices are indeed excellent. They remind me of Thailand about 10 years ago!!
All I know about Moldova is that their wine is phenomenal. It looks beautiful. I hope that tourism increases there so that the country can get back on its feet.

So the difference in pronouncing the name of the city comes from two different language is Russian and Romanian, all the Russian speaking people will tell you that it is pronounced Kishinev, because that's how it sounds I'm pronouncing Russian, but as the majority of the people in Moldova speak Romanian and have been speaking Romanian for hundreds and hundreds of years the correct way to pronounce it is khishinau

Maybe another route could be to Ukraine Kiev then airplane, train or bus. The distance between Kiev and Chisinau is bigger.

Oh yeah Moldova is really obscure but very pretty I went there in June this year. When I said to a former colleague he smiled so I could tell it doesn’t get a lot of people visiting it. It is currently the 3rd least visited country in Europe so it went up slightly. The least visited country in Europe at the moment is Liechtenstein (not surprised because it’s hard to get to) at least Moldova is easy to get to there are plenty of flights. The second least visited is San Marino (I guess it’s another obscure one and it’s an enclave in Italy) The reason why I went to Moldova was purely for the fact it’s the least visited country in Europe or at least one of them and Transnistria got me intrigued, I am now interested in countries of the beaten path.
Transnistria is an area with russian army so that is the reason why they are separate from Rep of Moldova and Ukraine, they are of course financed by Russia.
I am Canadian, originally from Romania, Moldova is same people like Romania that been broken apart by Stalin and Hitler during WW2 that signed the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact that divided Eastern Europe among USSR and Hitler's Germany. Then Stalin jailed, killed and displaced millions of Romanians from nowadays Moldova, Basarabia province back then and brought in Russian population introduced by force the Russian language and changed the ratios of demographic populations but it is still the same people after 50 out of the last 80 years of living apart.

I worked as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer and served in Moldova for two years. I spent so much time in Chisinau for both work and leisure. Your video really brought back a lot of great memories. Fun fact, I think my friends and I stayed in that exact same apartment you rented through Airbnb! Unless there's another apartment somewhere in Chisinau with the same decor/furnishings, I'm pretty sure it's the exact same one (I recognized the dining table, livingroom arrangement, and that frosted window that connects the bathroom and the kitchen, lol).
I had the pleasure of visiting Moldova in 2017. I loved it. Watching this video brought lots of memories
I would love to visit. The pace and normalcy reminds me of America in the 70's. I don't recognize this United States in which I live today. This was as lovely a presentation as our guide was beautiful and informative.

My cousin and I arrived in Chisinau today and one of the things we’ve learned is that if you’re not ready to get drunk, you better let people here know before you accept a drink. It is kind of rude to do it mid-drinking lol The wine from here should be exported. It’s amazing! People here are super nice, hospitable and fun. So far, great experience!

@@jazinjasimofficial medicine universities are really good and have groups for foreign students, there is one very good university for engineers called UTM but i dont know about foreigners so you should search that up

BTW, everything for you seems cheap, but for us, even those 3 dollars are a lot. Many people have salaries under 200-300 dollars here. The elders that don't work anymore get something like 50 dollars per month here. While the costs for heating the house are way above 300 dollars during winter, and this is for average temperature.
Yes, absolutely the prices are incredibly high for the average person who lives there. I was just comparing it for Western travellers since many people travel to places like London and Paris and spend so much money not considering there's other great places they could travel to for much less :)

They were SO GOOD. Actually a lot of different things at that restaurant were very good. Yes, it is very unfortunate that the government doesn't look after its people the way it should. I truly hope that does change in time. Really great people.

Moldova is SUCH a beautiful country. Earlier this year in the Summer I applied to the Peace Corps in Moldova and have an interview this next week for the position. The country is beautiful and I hope one day that the same can be said for it's economy and any corruption still found there. Thanks for making such an awesome video!

I am enjoying a covid-19 day watching a few of your videos and dreaming about traveling again. I have done a lot of travel through the Pacific Rim, Southeast Asia, Middle-East, United States, and Canada (I'm an Atlantic Canadian). When traveling back from the Persian Gulf region, I would often take advantage of a cheap stop-over in one of the major European destinations. I never gave Eastern Europe a thought. Not anymore! The more "exotic" destinations are on my go to list now. Those prices are indeed excellent. They remind me of Thailand about 10 years ago!!

@@fmj_556 There are some interesting places in Moldova. I suggest you to go somewere where a lot of people are around like Chișinău (witch is the capital) or Balți.
So the difference in pronouncing the name of the city comes from two different language is Russian and Romanian, all the Russian speaking people will tell you that it is pronounced Kishinev, because that's how it sounds I'm pronouncing Russian, but as the majority of the people in Moldova speak Romanian and have been speaking Romanian for hundreds and hundreds of years the correct way to pronounce it is khishinau

Maybe another route could be to Ukraine Kiev then airplane, train or bus. The distance between Kiev and Chisinau is bigger.

Oh yeah Moldova is really obscure but very pretty I went there in June this year.
When I said to a former colleague he smiled so I could tell it doesn’t get a lot of people visiting it.
It is currently the 3rd least visited country in Europe so it went up slightly.
The least visited country in Europe at the moment is Liechtenstein (not surprised because it’s hard to get to) at least Moldova is easy to get to there are plenty of flights.
The second least visited is San Marino (I guess it’s another obscure one and it’s an enclave in Italy)
The reason why I went to Moldova was purely for the fact it’s the least visited country in Europe or at least one of them and Transnistria got me intrigued, I am now interested in countries of the beaten path.
Ooo I did not know that. Will have to go there now! It is really nice to travel on the path less taken, feels much more fresh and interesting :)
In Myanmar there is an area, to the border w China, where they have some form of suveranity from Myanmar.
Transnistria is an area with russian army so that is the reason why they are separate from Rep of Moldova and Ukraine, they are of course financed by Russia.

I am Canadian, originally from Romania, Moldova is same people like Romania that been broken apart by Stalin and Hitler during WW2 that signed the Ribbentrop-Molotov pact that divided Eastern Europe among USSR and Hitler's Germany. Then Stalin jailed, killed and displaced millions of Romanians from nowadays Moldova, Basarabia province back then and brought in Russian population introduced by force the Russian language and changed the ratios of demographic populations but it is still the same people after 50 out of the last 80 years of living apart.
