  • Live smear test, Q&A with the nurse & Office group discussion
After meeting with Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust this year, I wanted to do something to help encourage more women to book and attend their cervical screenings here in the UK as statistics had shown that 1 in 4 women skip the cervical screening, with the proportion increasing to 1 in 3 among those aged 25 to 29 and to 1 in 2 in some more deprived regions of the UK. I decided that something I think I would have found really reassuring before attending my first test, would have been to have watched someone else having their test and to understand a little more about it. Therefore, that's what I decided to do! Loaded with your questions from instagram, I took my camera (and Maddie and Lauren who filmed for me) into my smear with the absolutely lovely Jenny! Although filming this was certainly out of my comfort zone, I really hope it encourages any of you who feel a bit uncertain, or have simply put it off to call your local GP and book your smear tests. Let me know in the comments if you have after watching this, and please also feel free to share your experiences below too for others to read.
I will also be donating the money raised from Adsense on this video to Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust! If you'd like to make your own personal donation so they can continue to do the amazing work they do for women across the UK, click here: www.jostrust.org.uk/get-invol...

What you did is a massive service to the ladies and young girls that follow you. I applaud your courage to put yourself out there (so to speak), and show us all that this doesn't have to be scary, and it is a vital thing to have done. I wish all of this was more prevalent when I was younger, i do have HPV. I have the # 1 cancer causing culprit, and have had problems with my "foof" (love that name btw). You are exactly the type of Woman and UA-cam role model I want my Daughter to have.

I don't really watch Zoe's videos anymore, but I'm so happy that she took the time to film this. This is so helpful to people who do need a pap smear. Thanks Zoe, and the nurse, for sharing so much and showing something that feels so scary and taboo to talk about. ❤️

This video just shows how important awareness is and prevention. Im 18 and I just so happened to get my first smear test (which is earlier in Australia normally its 21 here i believe) and found I hold an HPV virus even after being vaccinated, it just means currently it puts me in a higher risk zone. Its made me more aware and highlighted the importance of needing to get regular check-ups! Even if ur totally clear, get you pap smears ladies

My first smear test at 25 showed pre cancerous cells. Had them sorted out and been fine for the last 6 years, I dread to think what would have happened if I hadn't gone to my appointment.. So important! Well done, Zoe.

Thank you so much for being so open about this Zoe. I’ve been watching you for such a long time and I feel like you’ve become so much more open with us over time and it’s so good to see. For someone like you to be doing this is and showing us what it’s like is so so amazing. Thank you for using your platform for this. I’m sure that this will help lots of young women who are scared to go for a smear test. I know this was probably really weird for you to do but you have no idea how helpful this will be. It’s so sad that women put this off and this can be the reason why cervical cancer goes undetected for so long. From the bottom of my heart THANK YOU. Love you so much ❤️❤️❤️

I think it’s also so important to note that not everyone’s experience is pain free or positive. I had a really tough time during mine and experienced some pain, huge amount of discomfort, several attempts and a belly ache for the rest of the day. Can’t believe watching someone else that they didn’t go through that aswell!
Luckily I went and my results are negative but I think it’s so important to know that it isn’t always plain sailing, but like you said it lasts hardly any time x

I was 18 when I got my first smear test, back when Scotland's age was 18, not 25. I have had over 10 since then and I am now 28. I had my HPV injections in high school so never thought anything could go wrong. Boy was I wrong. I have pre cancerous cells that are dormant, and hopefully they will stay that way. At one point, I was getting a smear test every 3 months. And though I was very nerves, I knew it had to be done. And look what was found because I lay through about 2 minutes of minor discomfort. Girls, get a smear. It's important.

I just very recently went for my Pap smear with my mum and sister. And my mum’s results were abnormal.. 3 weeks later we were informed she has cervical cancer. And me and my sister just got our vaccinations for it.
I truly feel this is so needed now-a-days. Cervical cancer has shown up so much more in women now-a-days. This is really an important thing that all girls should do!

My first smear test at 24, came back abnormal so for all the women who are too scared to go please do. It was pre cancer cells that “could” change in the future so I’m lucky I went. It doesn’t hurt, and it’s literally over in about a minute honestly!. I suffer with anxiety, and I promise it’s the least painful experience ever. Well done for doing this Zoe. Thank you so much for sharing this with us Zoe. In the US things are a little different as far as pap smears go. I was 16 when I had my first test after finding a cyst on one of my ovaries. (In the US, you go as soon as you're sexually active, or if you're getting put on birth control) It was the worst experience I've ever had. They MALE doctors didn't explain ANYTHING and I was so scared that I actually passed out after it was over and he left the room. (yeah I'm still embarrassed to say that) I wish this video was around 8 years ago. I am now 24, and have found a female doctor that I am completely 100% comfortable around and there is no more stress or anxiety when I go to my appointments. My biggest tip is to find a doctor that you are comfortable around. It will make the process so much easier. Thanks again Zoe.

Zoe, I follow you for about 8-10 years now, I think pretty much since you started your channel, and in all that time I think I only left a comment about 2 or 3 times tops - I’m not a very interactive person myself. But today there’s was NO WAY I could ever leave this video without telling you how important that video was, it was an amazing idea to do it, and THANK YOU so much for doing this. I am a nurse and one of my favorite parts in university was when I was working with educating young women and teenagers about HPV and cervical cancer, as well as breast cancer. I did an educational program for almost two years, going to schools and talking to girls and boys starting at 14 about sexual education, how to prevent cancer and other STDs, and it is amazing how many questions and doubts one can have, and I think the sooner you start learning about how your body works, how you can prevent diseases, how all those things are completely NORMAL, the better. You can save so many lives (yes! Saving lives! Cervical cancer kills a lot of women every year) by just educating people, and I love it that you are more than aware of how much of a influence you have, and you use it for such a good cause. Thank you, Zoe! You are an amazing human being!
Oh and I do hope your results came back all normal and you are completely healthy! Congratulations for your amazing work!

How amazing and informative. I wish this was around when I was in school. My first test was so nerve wracking and it didn’t have to be!

The way the nurse described how a smear test should be and how they make you feel as comfortable as possible is exactly how my first one went and it was fine! My second one on the other hand was the total opposite! The very rude lady left the door open through the whole thing (which was right in front of the waiting room) didn’t even bother pulling the curtain across and just stood there right in front of me and watched while I took my pants off and got onto the bed and didn’t give me anything to cover my legs it was so strange! Looking back I should have complained but I felt so awkward and confused by it all 🙈

What a fantastic video for young girls to be able to watch before going for a smear test.
Please all go for smears, they are so important.
