    Thanks for the information. I was able to go to the Fred Hall Show and cast a Daiwa Proteus WN and Lexa 400 combo at the lagoon. Super easy to cast and had me sold. I ended up getting an 8' 10" Proteus Winn and a Lexa 400HD HS-P. Thank you for the informative videos.

    I just bought a shimano tdr 9foot heavy for my back up surface iron rod. I have the 8 foot and I love it for casting small jigs. They only cost $35 and they are 2 piece which is so f ing convenient! They are the best budget surface iron rods

    My goto light surface iron set up is my Calstar 850L paired with the Saltiga 30L but I did get an Okuma SCTi-C 8' rod paired with a Daiwa Lexa 400 TW and man I love that set up especially for the smaller surface irons like the Tady C. Wish I had gotten the 8'6" but cant find them anymore.

    A new rod idea for your surface iron casting....
    Try a Batson 8'10" Saltwater/Musky rod acid

      The PCH Custom rods are much stiffer and doesn't have nearly as much whip action in it like the SCTi-C does. If you're looking for something with similar action the closest thing I know of is the Calstar Grafighter 850L but that rod is much much more expensive. If you can find a used one I would jump all over it.
      But if you're looking for something from Okuma that is practically identical in action as the SCTi-C check out their Guide Select Swinbait Rods in Mag Extra Heavy. However, they don't make them longer than 7'11" in order to cut back on export shipping cost. They also have the Guide Select Custom Black Swimbait line in which they make an XXXH but they too are all 7'11". or shorter.
      Now if you don't ming spending a little bit more money on a Okuma rod check out their PCH Custom Lightweight Carbon Inshore Casting Rods. It's their baitcasting rod versions of the PCH Custom series. I don't have one yet but just might pull the trigger one one.

      Mike Marketello I haven’t hooked a yellowtail on my 10’ yet. Only big bonito. But it really is a different fight. You gotta figure out what’s comfortable to fight the fish. You said nothing beats a stiff rod. I have a graftech rod I got custom with a deckhand style grip and it’s also really stiff, can you throw iron with a rod that stiff? I’m having a hard time getting 30 yards when I can cast a iron with a jigstick easily 60-70 yards. How far would you say you’re getting with your mojo rod, I’d really like to know just to see if I should be worrying or not

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  6 років тому

      jdebelak10 I tested it out on our last trip. It’s definitely a different style of casting. What I noticed is it almost feels like you bounce the jig right at the preload of the cast. So I started to purposely do that and it helped. Kinda hard to explain. But yeah it is a different method for sure, but as soon as you can figure out what helps you, you can be slinging jigs just as far

    • @pan8a
      @pan8a 6 років тому

      Dirty Hookers can please make a vid of how you "bounce the jig on the preload" I need to see what that looks like because I have an idea that's what I might need on a crowded party boat.

    • @Dominion594
      @Dominion594 5 років тому +1

      I have a Calstar GF 900H that I used for casting irons and it's pretty stiff. Figured out that instead of pre-determining leader length wasn't the way to go. Right before the cast, I'd let the jig drop 3 feet to help the tip load up and as soon as I stop the spool on the drop I start the cast.
      Not sure if that's the same, but has helped me in getting a bit more distance.

    Have you looked at the Cousins Raze RSW 909T or the CPX 909HF? Those rods are made for the Lexa 400

      pan8a I haven’t. I love cousins rods though. I’ll have to check them out. I’ve fished a few of their rods. But I’ve never owned one

      Dirty Hookers thanks for the update. I had ordered a 30-65 mojo but I received the same one you got. Feels light and strong. After looking at your rig looks like I'm going to copy you.😁

      Hugo Gomez haha well if you copy me I hope you enjoy the set up lol it just comes down to the anglers preference . I didn’t even know they made a 30-65 mojo musky.

    You don't cast the big avet's like the LX or HX while throwing irons?

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  6 років тому +1

      Tacklecentral Fishing I’ve honestly never even fished any abet reels before. I have a lot of friends that use them but I just started fishing irons maybe like April of last year

      @tacklecentralfishing1051 6 років тому

      I see videos of the long range guys throwing iron and bait and stuff on avets, they cast a very long ways. It all comes down to personal prefrence i guess.
