Nothing to do with the controls. There just was no other place to conveniently locate it. It is tied to the vertical post of the rudder, and the cable runs forward to the shoulder harness. It works fine and is comfortable. This guy did a beautiful job on his, and it sounds and looks like if flies really well!
Finally somebody shows a 1924 replica with the appropriate background music from what probably was the best era in United States of America. There was real freedom back then and a lot less castrating regulations as we have today.
What got me is trying to figure out that seat belt cable . But I did managed to come up with something . That cable and harness is to sling the pilot away from the crash sight . That if the plane went down .
I have a set of plans for this, that I got from Mike Kimbrel, back in the early 80's. I have recently renewed my interest in it, and wanted to see what it looked like when flying. I think I will go ahead and start building. I am really impressed! Also, the guy who built this one did an excellent job! Wish he had put more details in the text with the video, though! .
I will post some pictures.......My recommendation for an engine is a VW converted by Great Plains Aircraft. You can buy them as a kit as well, that you put together yourself. They have a VERY good reputation.....in fact, by the strength of running of the engine on the Bathtub in this video, it's probably a Great Plains. You can choose from a large number of options, including size, horsepower, detail parts such as carbs and ignition, etc. I have seen many of these engines at Oshkosh!
I wonder why they put the parasol wing so high, and used no dihedral at all. Maybe because they wanted a spirited plane that was a um... "racer"... air-war.org
Airframe with all fitting , cables and instuments 55 pounds , VW engine 125 pounds , Fuel 35 pounds topped off , pilot 218 pounds . Total wieght 443 pounds . Just my guess .
Where can I get those wheels? Motorscooter wheels? Garden Cart? The spoked ones I find can't handle a hell of a lot of weight or side load. choppergirl.air-war.org
Just found this. I live about 45 minutes from St. John's down the road. I remember seeing one of these as a kid. Great memory!
Absolutely delightful!! I am going to build one of these as a Radio Control Scale Model...

It's amazing that it flies with a tailplane that small. Also looks like nearly in the wake of the main plane.

You get what you give in to

Hi William, any chance you ever built a tub? Would love to get a set of plans and or more info and pics. Thanks, James
I would love to have the plans? How can I get them if you still have them and how much?
Hello William, are you willing to sale the Mike Kimbrel’s plans ? If so im interest.
Thanks for the reply. If you start building it, put some pictures online please! I'm really interested. Currently I'm looking to fix a powerplant.
Where can I get a full set of plans for this plane?
Gotta love that! Where is it located? How's it feel to fly?

Do you think the plans are still available? I'm also interested in building the replica

Why is the shoulder harness tied to the back of the plane? Does it have to do with the controls or just the way it was built.
Is this plane at the pioneer flight museum in kingsbury,TX?
No. Kingsbury has a gruesome replica...
Donde se pueden conseguir los planos de este avión.

What’s even worse is the fact that the music not from the time period of the aircraft!!!!
What airfoil does this use? Did you build this as a one-off, or did you have plans? Are ther there plans, or a kit available?
