Well done on digitising this footage! I wondered at first if the mystery record was by the Ventures as Caroline jocks used their stuff quite a lot (e.g. Roger Day had their version of "Green Grass" as his theme tune for a long time). But the Charles Blackwell version it definitely is - as you point out though it's all but disappeared now!
Surprising no one spotted it - Charles Blackwell was a great producer and much respected music arranger; a good pal of Ronan's and he lived in Essex. Clearly remember old the Old Fox talking about him.
I believe Charles Blackwell's "Orchestra" were session men recorded by Joe Meek. And Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers were associated with Meek. So maybe one and the same thing in this instance?
Radio Caroline wasn’t the first radioship. Many offshore stations broadcast to Europe before Radio Caroline. Ronan O’Rahilly got the idea for Radio Caroline from Radio Veronica.
Thanks for resolving the mystery of Caroline's "Hawaiian War Chant." Story also took interesting turns with its' move to identify a long dead Hawaiian Prince as the song's composer.
Born in London, Blackwell taught himself to play the piano and to write arrangements. He started working as an arranger with record producer Joe Meek at the age of eighteen
Just for the sake of being "picky", 'coz I'm in that sort of mood today, I thought I'd refute your statement about Caroline being the first pirate station. It wasn't, and I'm sure that you know that. You meant the first station actually based off of the British coastline, did you not? That now being put aside, I enjoyed the video, and I'll be looking out for more. Cheers.
Here's another 1960s Caroline theme tune mystery, one that I'd like solved, even if no one else does! 😂😄 It's Emperor Rosko's 1966 theme on Caroline South, It's an instrumental version of "Memphis". Everywhere says it's by Link Wray. As soon as I got a tape of the Rosko show from the start, I knew it was not Link Wray, or at least not the version by him that keeps turning up. The opening starts up like the Johnny Rivers version, but of course, the Johnnie Rivers version wasn't an instrumental! Anybody got any ideas?? 👍👍
Hi Hudois - Your search is over - I think the Rosko theme on Caroline was Memphis by Billy Strange. It is on youtube here:ua-cam.com/video/qLqIsucKgUA/v-deo.html
@@norfolknuggets8494 Thanks very much for that. It's now downloaded and in my collection of 60s offshore radio theme tunes. I should have done this years ago! Thanks again, and very much appreciated indeed!! 👍👍👍👍👌
No one seems to have noticed that the 45 in the picture is a Demonstration Record, which was probably never commercially released, therefore would not be available on Spotify etc.
Great Video for me ! Love Radio Caroline - Love investigating old Theme Tunes - Love Keith Skues !

When I hear radio caroline, I see the boat, smell the sea and feel the nostalgia!

Interesting
Thanks Alan
The Spike Jones City Slickers version is the most fun though ;-)
Randy California of Spirit used the tune on hid Kahuana Dream album.

Where can I hear a clip so I can try to identify the artist?

SOmething tells me your long music clip did NOT trigger the dreaded YT "content match copyright warning"!
