- Clean boost is a fairly utilitarian effect, most times. But the crafty Danes at T-Rex Engineering couldn't leave well enough alone. . . and it's well they didn't. Their new T-Rex Tonebug Booster offers both boost and cut settings, as well as a scoop control that carves a little EQ out of your tone when mere level adjustment doesn't suffice.
Owen demos the Tonebug Booster with a made-in-Mexico Fender Standard Strat and a Vox AC15 1x12 tube combo. Tube amps like the single-channel Vox are a perfect match for a booster pedal like the Tonebug Booster, especially because the pedal's Daphne blue casing offsets the Vox's tan accents so pleasingly.
I've gotten this new, and it sat in the box for 8 years. I just hooked it up on my solid state head as I wait for preamp tubes to arrive for my main amp. It's ok.. it has a hint of almost sub low kinda lows like down tuned 5 string bass kinda lows.. but no real guitar mid-low rang (E string range).. so no matter how you adjust it the e string seems uneffected.. your option is to boost your mids, high mids or treble area. It becomes rather hot as your turn the knob to the right.. my passive pickups with the tone dialed back sounds like active pickups with full tone when its fully cranked.. so if your amp or speakers need that to compensate then it's good. With tweaking you will probably find some kind of use for it.. I currently am using a light line6 crunch preamp with mild chorus and reverb into a noise gate to kill the line6 static and fuzz then going into this at full boost and boosting at 2' o'clock.. I only pulled this and the line6 pod out because my digital amps preamp must have blew a transistor cause its crackles and feedbacks but sounds crystal clear when I bypass the preamp.. so i couldn't use onboard distortion and both my boss metal zone and digitech metal master are so bad the noise gate cuts their sound too much by the time it removes the hum.. this combination didnt really give me a metal tone.. mostly because it wouldn't boost my top string.. but its had a good hard rock / punk sound.. on general clean tones it had a bluesy tone to it.

I also couldn't get past how bad the starting tone was. Honestly sounded like your speaker was ripped. The pedal seems to work well though.

how would it sound with a soild state amp?
Wish there wasn't so much fuzz on this demo. Doesn't do a good job allowing the pedal to give a "clean" tone when the OD/Fuzz is already too much

Clean sounds like crap. If you're gonna do a demo on a pedal make sure your amp isn't crap.
