This thing sounds really good. Also really good to see those Roland modules out and about. I feel like they have been sleepers in the modular community.
Yo that's a nice spaceship you got there chief ! I'm just getting into sound sequencing and modular synthetizers and that's a hell of a clusterfuck but got it way better thanks to your explanations
sorry to dbl post, right after last comment.. you talk about using pitch cv to trigger drums... I just "learned" this idea from a NE video.. using mimetic as a 4 trigger source.. so I tried it on mine and soon discovered this fact that you can't have 2 back to back triggers due to the +/-5v needing to be different between steps... but for simple bass beats or hits, this is great! Eurorack is so confusing with all the possible ways to do one thing, keeps me fresh! Ok, great video, thanks again B!
One way to get around that: take the trigger or short gate you use to clock the sequencer, mult it to an AND gate, then patch the sequencer output to the other input of the AND gate. The output will then only be high for as long as your clock input as high, so you can how have back to back triggers.
... so I'm about to buy a new sequencer and you post this.. huge awesome beast... trying to stay near or under 32hp... but this.. is.. tasty.. I was almost ready to pull the trigger.. for a system light on drums, this looks great... cheers for the upload and your time!
Awesome review! I just stumbled upon your channel whilst I was looking for reviews, your videos are brilliant! I have subscribed to this channel and am going to watch through some more of your videos this evening, keep up the great work!
@devontodetroit well, 1 channel of up to 16 triggers or 2 of up to 8 if you just use the gate outs. And actually 4 of 8 if you use 8v output on the cv outs, turn the step you want on all the way up and the ones you don't all the way down.
absolutely. It's not quantised. it's just variable analogue voltages per step. So you can use those for anything you might want to modulate or control. You can use it for unquantised pitch. More carefully tuning each knob/step. Or you can quantise those voltages to lock them into scales if you wish.
you can freely improvised with the rhythms. The controls offer ways to turn on and off various steps in a musical way. The lights on the knobs show the rhythm you're creating.
So you can cv the start and end points of the sequence? That don't impress a me much. Youve got the looks but can you individually clock each track, or at least have individual resets per track? Having all the tracks tied together is a huge limitation. They should have made the gate sequencer a stand alone module because it looks nice. What happened to modular modules?
Billy A.B. Agreed. Eurorack becomes an unnecessary design constraint in products like this. Either make it modular or release as a proper full size synth without compromises.
Who are the four people who downvoted this DivKid video? No, I’m really interested in their psychology. What more could they possibly want? DivKid’s videos are invaluable resources for modular shoppers and to understand the module you just bought. These a**holes must be trolls or morons who thought “modular” meant a form of housing, otherwise known as a TRAILER. Losers! Love ya DivKid!
Great demo, as usual. One question, unrelated to the generator but showcased on the video. Does your T-Networks module have the mid and low frequencies flipped? (mid is actually low and vice-versa)
@@sooperheep Well, I just figure I haven't heard a lot of people raving about this so it might be easier to get at a lower price used than some might first think.
Did I ever mention, that you're unbelievably good at your job? (:
i guess Im quite off topic but does anyone know a good place to stream new tv shows online?
@Bentley Emmett Flixportal :P
@Kieran Tripp thanks, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D Appreciate it!!
@Bentley Emmett no problem :D

Generator is a truly modular and playable sequencer. It's really well thought out. I got one a while ago and love it.

the passion you have about things you showing is exponential

I think drums are the least likely usage... To me it has a generative logic with all the transpose and clock options. 8th note drums only.
James Porch I know what you mean, but you can use 16ths for drums, of course, as long as you don’t use two consecutive ones.
Generator is great, but I really liked the Oberkorn due to the epic name ;-)
I have been using an Oberkorn for years and would love to get my hands on one of these.
Awesome review! I just stumbled upon your channel whilst I was looking for reviews, your videos are brilliant! I have subscribed to this channel and am going to watch through some more of your videos this evening, keep up the great work!
This vid is especially chuckly lol. Awesome, another piece of gear for my want list. Thank you, sir!
Great vid - I'd love if you showed it with a few semi-modulars in the future...
that little section from 14:51 - 14:56 is fucken nuts
Actually considering some others price is not completely ridiculous. Didn’t realize how great thing is!
it's definitely all hands on and always a fun and immediate unit.
I’m on the lookout for a new sequencer this is on my maybe
What sequencer did you go with? And do you like it.. I’m trying to figure out my sequencer needed. Thanks
Holy crap that ADDAC jam @14:27 was a facemelter!
Just bought a 2nd one, gonna cascade them!
nice things to play with, I had fun using the Eurorack and standalone ones for a while.
Ben, you just reminded me that my SQ-1 can be a rhythm sequencer!
ohhhhhh shiiiiiiiiit gotta get that thing off the shelf too!

Fantastic Ben!!!
DK... love the new format
Mmmmmm gotta love that analog sequencing- sounds so much better than that nasty digital stuff
What diference is between the Generator and the Arturia Keystep pro ?
Thanks Ben😎
is possible to work with this sequencer without quantize?
absolutely. It's not quantised. it's just variable analogue voltages per step. So you can use those for anything you might want to modulate or control. You can use it for unquantised pitch. More carefully tuning each knob/step. Or you can quantise those voltages to lock them into scales if you wish.
@@DivKid you say about pitch, same with rythm? Can i have some totally adlibitum, free crazy rythmic structure?
you can freely improvised with the rhythms. The controls offer ways to turn on and off various steps in a musical way. The lights on the knobs show the rhythm you're creating.
The Rack Brute is a perfect fit for the Generator. How similar is this to the Oberkorn Sequencer Ben?
Hey ho i like ur patches but i never found ur actual music . Where can i find it??
Thanks Ben :-)

@@SootySweep22 nah I got one of these - its designed to be musical
Which quantizer are you using w/ the chord at the end?
Jesus who gives u a Thumb down awesome video as always

well done! whats the fm synth voice playing the bass at 17 min?
Is it legal to own so many knobs?
Large and spendy, but Generator looks like a really gratifying tool.
Great demo, as usual.
One question, unrelated to the generator but showcased on the video.

Your great but the price is obscene my friend blessed be
You really do have an awful lot of modules, how do you ever leave the house?
Almost bought one of these b/c the price was low on ebay but I was only going to flip it as I don’t use modular gear.
@@sooperheep Well, I just figure I haven't heard a lot of people raving about this so it might be easier to get at a lower price used than some might first think.
Now your cookin with grease.. that shit is sick.. 14;53
where is the swing knob? :(
It's cool but the price can 't be serious..
