    So this video was made 7 yr ago. Year 2020 where can i buy the pom taro root in USA? How they call it in Spanish or other language? Thanks😊

      @foodandthesingleguy  3 роки тому

      That is going to be quite a challenge, I have to say... I have received this question soooo many times and I can honestly tell you that in all my years of being in the US, I have never been able to find it anywhere. Not even in Florida, with a reasonable Surinamese community... I wish I could offer a solution, but alas... :(

      In Spanish it is called yautia amarilla.

      Guilliano, you are a STAR...!!! I was also raised in the Caribbean and I asked around until I was blue in the face, LOL and nobody knew anything... SO: THANK YOU! :) I did see many videos here on UA-cam and I must say the species that we grow in my country looks somewhat different... The tuber raises to the surface and becomes the stam of the plant and it's that stam that we grate and use. But it may well be the same, that plant family is huuugggeee :) Thanks again, happy new year in advance ;)

      The pom tayer is related to a variety of similar looking plants and their roots, but please watch this video to see what the REAL pom tayer actually is: ua-cam.com/video/gqwTvyyUA_Y/v-deo.html It's releated to "eddoe", as it's called in certain Caribbean countries or "taro", same thing, different name. Do NOT use "eddoes" to make pom, that is NOT the correct ingredient... These are "eddoes" by the way: www.alamy.com/stock-photo-taro-or-eddoe-corm-colocasia-esculenta-root-vegetable-tropical-potato-60850185.html

Als iemand die CREOOLS IS en zo ook is opgevoed kan ik alleen maar lachen om die gasten... Dus omdat ik niet op een echte Blakkamang lijk, dan zijn mijn recepten niet traditioneel...??? Die rotzooi die andere zogenaamde "koks" Surinaamse recepten noemen, DAAR moeten deze Creoolse mensen naar kijken, niet naar hoe ik kook... Maar anyway... je hoort wel ;)

    • @foodandthesingleguy
      @foodandthesingleguy  5 років тому +1

      Zeker weten ;) Je moet het zoutvlees in een pan met water doen en dan koken totdat het water tot ongeveer 4 cm. is verdampt. Daarna voeg je nogmaals water toe en herhaal je het voorgaande totdat het vlees lekker mals is... ;) Ik doe er ook altijd 2 laurierblaadjes bij en wat pimentkorrels.

      +Lasijem Bourdess Hi there, thanks for watching. Probably "taro root", but please keep in mind that the taro family is a large one and you have many different types... The one used for this dish is the long kind that looks like an actual stem of the plant, but in fact it's just the root that grows above ground with the leaves on top ;)

    This is according to my recollection of how pom was made in the 1960's. With fresh pomtayer en a large nail stuck into it! And of course NO PICALILLY! Picalilly pom is what I find kind of an affront to the dish and I really don't like it.
