I really had NO idea what I was getting into watching this show. The first episode gives no indication of how askew the story really will go. What an insane journey to take viewers on.

Even once I knew it was a vampire story, it surpassed my expectations. A lot. And it came back around.

samantha and kate were my favourites to watch the whole way through
My favprite characters were the sheriff and the father Paul, but Samantha's acting was excellent, I hated Bev since the beginning of the series. But Hamish Linklater is on another level for me.
“Mike will kill everyone you love” is the truest statement ever. I keep telling myself to stop watching the series or never get too excited when people are happy but I do and then I’m crying ugly tears at the end. 😂

One of my favorite details about Midnight Mass is that the word "vampire" isn't said once during the whole series. I kept waiting for a character to make that discovery or call that out, and I was oddly satisfied when no one ever did. Incredible story telling. It felt like it didn't need to be said and I love that.
Perhaps it's not about vampires, but Christianity and other fanatic beliefs.
@@HereticHulk it was about the misconception of a vampire as an angel. The townsfolk, in this world where vampires exist, simply mistakenly put it in a religious context. The vampire was manipulating everyone and went along with it just to suck some blood haha.

Idk I've been thinking that maybe it was an actual angel, and that's how angels really are rather than these protective beams of light that Christianity has turned them in to. Maybe angels are where the myth of "vampires" actually came from? Or it's a demon. But I was just watching a different cast interview where they bring this up! There were apparently several words on a "we're not saying" list.
i thought it was like a fallen angel. which would be similar to a demon. cause why would a vampire's blood have healing powers you know?
Can we all agree that Kate Siegel and Mike Flanagan are an iconic husband-wife horror duo?

I binge watched this series in 2 nights. My gosh - the music! I am Catholic and have not heard these hymns since I was a teenager! Brought back lots of memories of my Catholic upbringing. Loved the show and the music!
Although apropos, I did not like the music....maybe because have not done much churching in my life. Thought it was a great series though. Nailed the ending I thought. Acting was great and so was the story.
I watched all 8 episodes in one night. Finished it at like 3:30 in the morning. I loved it so much. Flanagan makes the kind of stuff I wanna watch. And these guys were great. They both had moments that broke my heart.

I had trouble sleeping that night after hearing her lengthy screaming. By the way, the chemistry between Monsignor and Riley at the meetings in the rec room were so intense and creepy. This show was so well done. 👍
Just finished watching today. The first three consecutive days I watched one episode each sitting. Then when I finished episode four, I couldn't stop. Spent the afternoon and into the evening, for all practical purposes, in shock.
Brilliant character development. Superb sets, costumers, and lighting. Outstanding cast! Extraordinary directing.
I highly recommend _Midnight Mass,_ but only for those whose religious senses aren't easily offended. For those who, like myself, were raised in a deeply fundamentalist church environment but have consequently rejected that fanaticism, intolerance, and bigotry, I think you'll find _Midnight Mass_ unsettling, in a way, but ultimately gratifying and an intriguing watch.
This is why it was a masterpiece, it subjectively interpreted Roman Theology in a different light! All the dialogue and verses came at the right place and time. A very deep movie, imho.
Kate Siegel is hiliarious! And she has so much chemistry with Zach XD

love the ending, there is no self, just pictures of memories we picked up along the way, and we are returning to the whole like a drop of water returning to the ocean...beautifully done

Flanagan = 3 Mike shows on Netflix = 3 Masterpieces! I was super excited about "Midnight Mass". As always, "Horror" is more about character drama than the "supernatural" thing. I mean, you don't have "fright jumps" every 30 seconds like in traditional horror movies/series, and I really love that about Flanagan's work, man! He writes drama with touches of horror.
This is Flanagan's first autoral story, and you can really see the difference here. There are so many passions in discussing the essential perspectives of facing life. Science and religion are so well portrayed, you can't tell if Flanagan is a Christian or a science guy or a tormented soul in between.
And the acting? My Lord, Linklater (Father Paul) is amazing here, but for me, Samantha Sloyan (Bev) stole the show for her! Amazing woman and character!
If Game of Thrones had this ending, man... Just kill them all! People like the courage of it!
Horror isn't just about jump scares. It's about making you feel horror. Too many people seem to get caught up in jump scares. They belong in the 80s, horror has come a long way but unfortunately it still has the age old stigma attached

Neither of those came close to this tho. Watched the entire thing in 1 day.
Just marathoned the whole thing. I was really surprised at how good it was, from start to finish. Awesome cast and awesome writing. Mike Flanagan has done it again. 👏
And they had those LONG shots, uninterrupted. Lengthy dialogue, uncut.

him dying was definitely a shock. i thought we would go on that journey with him then boom he was gone before the end.
Ken L-From the moment that the creature got Riley in episode 4, through to the moment were he finally dies & you hear Erin's horrified/heartbroken screams, my heart just shattered. I'd come to really care about the character, & like you I'd thought that he would be the one who'd save the town, so I could not believe that Mike Flanagan had just killed him off like that. It was so heartbreaking to watch. Just shows you how good Mike Flanagan is at keeping you from being able to guess where his stories are going to go next.

I binge watched this and just finished it last night.....went to bed all stuffed up from crying so thanks for that lol. Please tell me there will be more seasons I am already dying. 🙏🙏🙏

This series is so good. I actually felt something for these characters, which is really rare for me. Especially after only 7 episodes.
One of the best TV series EVER. Also, Riley was so well written character. All of the said and done was.. all I am saying - thank you for showing real atheist/agnostic. his words were manifestation of everything I stand for. And I knew right away that he decided to die on that boat... Plus I never understand why most of people want to live forever. Midnight mass doing a great job with this topic.

Rewatching for the second time. Got my dad hooked on it and it's exciting to see his reactions to the episodes. Such a great show. I'm telling everyone I know to watch it explaining to them that I can't say anything other than you won't know what hit you once you get to the end

I don’t get how some people are confused. It’s definitely a vampire and it shows how you can take words and twist them to your own meaning, and if said by a leader, others will believe them. The Bible is a perfect example. I was raised Catholic and went to a Catholic school in a faith driven town, and believe me, if priests were to do this, many would blindly follow. The show said it perfectly, “ the road to hell is paved with good intentions.” Father Paul thought it was an angel but after seeing the people and what they done, I’m pretty sure he’s like, ‘oh, that wasn’t an angel, it was a vampire. Im pretty stupid’ but he didn’t have to say it. It didn’t have to be about a vampire or people turning, but it’s point is how people will follow the words and action of a leader if they believe them to be a good person or good will come from it. There’s been plenty of examples of this through history already. But it’s definitely a vampire and there are so many little Easter Eggs pointing to it from classic vampire cinema Mike put in there, so there really shouldn’t be confusion or debate…
I really liked Midnight Mass, despite it became Tragic w/a mostly Sad end (the 2 teens got away in the row boat at least), & Mike Flanagan's directing & Writing, especially of dialogue & monologues, were Outstanding, and the actors excellent. But, after Riley was murdered & brought back to life, & did NOT believe father Paul/John's deluded or Manipulative explanation that the Creature that killed & Drank their blood... was an Angel, as he tried to Spin his, Riley's & others' Change as being "Blessed," but in Truth, what Murdered Father Paul, Riley, others & brought some back to life, is NOT an angel, but an Ancient, terrifying, Evil Vampire, so Why did Riley or Erin Never call it like it was & Say it's an Ancient Evil Vampire??! Why did Mike choose Not to let anyone say in last episode for e.g. "It's NOT an angel of G-d it's the opposite, as it's an Evil Vampire, & all who it's attacked & brought back are now Vampires!"?? I'd truly Appreciate a reply, IF someone has heard Mike Flanagan Explain Why he chose not to let even Riley or Erin Say the word Vampire??!

i still get attached to the characters mike flanagan creates although i know all too well that even if you're a main character, you're not safe (ehem nell and dani ehem)
I want to see a story about the vampire. Where did he come from? How old is he? How long was he in that buried temple? Who put him there? That's the story I want to see. Bronze Age Vampire Horror.
That was the most compelling thing about the series to me,though. . Nobody said the word "vampire". As a viewer i knew objectively that it was a vampire but when i think about it more how do we really know that Angels won't come and turn us into the undead?
I truly wish he would go back to Hill House and do a preclude ... Poppy and the others, their stories. I love you Kate Siegel, you are so beautiful and talented.

Midnight Mass is a masterpiece.
I’m not a horror person, but I do like supernatural stuff. My point is I don’t want to be terrified and watch a horror movie turned into a tv show. So for those who’ve seen it, is it more horror or more drama/supernatural?
It's storytelling Horror, but I think more story than jump scares (there are a couple but it's not the whole feel)...I think more supernatural and suspenseful...it's good!

I felt like midnight mass just didn’t have an ending. It felt incomplete. Whereas most of Mikes anthologies and movies do feel love or they have an ending.
1:25 is probably the most striking scene for me. I feel sad for Riley and everyone on the island except Bev. I'm going to watch this series again.
This film series was gorgeous! Whew! And Linklater on that scene when Gilford said he was jealous, and when he told Essoe he did it because he didn't want her to die! Good gosh almighty! 30 second Emmy win 🏆 🙌 👏!!!

I loved this show. Was so unique and different. It makes you think. Great actors and great acting. Kate you are an amazing actress. Haunting at Hillhouse was great. Excited to see what else you guys do!!

Great series. True horror with a great story. A super rare combination and I am so glad I found it. My only compliant is the dialogue could drag on a bit in a lot of scenes but this observation is minor.

Great series!
I love shows that have lots of world building, get you attached to the characters, and then bring forth the mayhem. This is how you do a story. Doesnt need to be endless seasons. I'm glad its one season. It ended amazing.
