    How nice to "find" you here :-) I noticed how carefully you were walking, as you approached the edge of the cliffs... pretty easy to step into a cornice, and ....in the "rain forests" in BC and Washington, one can easily fall off a cliff, as the vegetation forms a kind of "cornice", as well. I'm always thrilled by the variety of the landscape in your country. Opportunities and challenges abound!

      Thanks! yes, you have to walk carefully near the waterfall, since the river changes paths once in a while. Having been there many times before helps knowing where to step and where not. Very cold days like this one are safer than warmer days when the ice starts melting.

      @@GudmannAndGyda btw, i really appreciate that you two have that 'Nordic' quietness, and honesty, when discussing tough problems, or disappointing results...I lived in a 'Nordic country', far to the east, ;-) for almost 8 years, and enjoy the quiet, the deep humour, the 'no BS' approach. Just finished viewing your Grimsey Arctic Tern (et al) video.

    Those images around 4:35 are just wonderful! Amazing how "painterly" the ice "filter" makes the photos...btw: -12 is the exact temperature where your breath will cause a moustache, or hair, to freeze ;-). The things that one learns when living in Nordic countries!
    It looks like there are many opportunities where a tilt/shift lens would be wonderful to allow the depth of field to capture the full depth of the scene, without having to stop down to f32 ;-)

    Beautiful. Did your Z6 work again?

    • @GudmannAndGyda
      @GudmannAndGyda  3 роки тому

      Yes, the Nikon Z6 was fine after few minutes in the car. The battery probably drained and most of the buttons were frozen. There was a thin film of ice on the camera, but it was just fine and it was used for filming for the rest of the day. - Once I was walking in a snowstorm with the Z6 on a 500 mm lens inside a cover. The body fell off and into the snow. I did not notice until 15 minutes later. Walked back searching for it in the snowblind which was difficult since the snow-drift had already covered my tracks in the snow. Eventually I found it face down in the snow - the sensor of course full of snow. A scary situation for any camera. After dusting the snow off, blowing most of it out of the body´s sensor area, heating and drying for few hours, I put a battery in it and turned it on. Worked fine, only had to clean the sensor. This shows that It´s very difficult to kill this camera even though I have sometimes treated it very badly. I love the Z system - it´s the future.

    14:15 Why do you not using the electric shutter when you shoot 1s+ long expos?
    That should eliminate all camera shake from the mirror or shutter. Should not have bad effect on the shot, I mean no fast moving object there - it is excellent for landscape photography. I used that function of the D850 before I bought my Z7II!
    Also, it is almost a year since I been this part of Iceland, and I was really unlucky with the weather, it was very windy and mostly cloudy totally ruined my chances with Hverir - only get a few nice photos, hope next time will be more like your time! :D
    Really love Hverfjall picture with the drone, so beautiful crater! very nice shot!

    • @GudmannAndGyda
      @GudmannAndGyda  3 роки тому +2

      Thanks for your response Márk. I go back and forth with the electronic shutter. It is very handy to use the live view with 3 sec exposure delay. I don´t notice any difference. The reason I use the silent mode most of the time is that I also go back and forth with short and long shutter speeds - a practical point when out in the field at minus 12. I hope you will have a good time next time you are in Iceland. As you know the conditions are never the same between days.

    Would camera rain covers in such a scenario be useful

    • @GudmannAndGyda
      @GudmannAndGyda  3 роки тому

      Not really. Using covers for the lens helps, but as soon as it is removed the spray does it´s thing.
