The device you're talking about seems really cool for effects other than that you can buy two SP 404 maybe three for the same price. You can buy a MPC X or mpc live for the same price used.... I think you would love the Akai Force matched up with the mc 707
Let's face it, this product is D.O.A, more than twice the price it should be. I wouldn't be surprised if this will soon be heavily discounted and becomes abandonware like other Korg products have (Thinking the Electribe 2 synth & Sampler).
I think it's a little pricey but I had a KP2 and had to sell it, and I’ve been waiting for something like that reissued. Anyway, thank you Dan Stevens for your commentary, I really liked you in Legion and Downton Abbey.

I'm a Korg fan too - my ancient but still relevant D1600 multitracker, my MicroKORG, three Volcas, SQ-1 sequencer, even their legendary guitar tuner lurking somewhere about. I was very disappointed the Opsix wasn't fully DX7 patch compatible. Those faders and other new features would have been so nice but backwards compatibility was what I needed most so I bought a DX7 IID instead. The money went to a guy in Montréal instead of Korg. As for this one, it's not an MPC or a 404. Give me just the Kaoss at half that price and Korg has a sale. Kaoss' never come on the used market in Ottawa so I'll pay list price.

I am right there with mr. Smith. Korg has got some good stuff that I have been able to play with (Microkorg, MS-20 mini) and stuff that I really want to be able to play with (Minikorg 700s, Kaosspad, 707 and so forth). This one seems to be more the name than the sounds.
Right there with you on the Korg love , my first electronic gear was all Korg . I think the replay was a missed opportunity . A bit of onboard memory and a multi-instrument sequencer (like the beatstep pro) added to this would've knocked it out of the park . Add a synth engine to it or something like the NTS-1 as well and many of the synth nerds out there would have to be playing one handed for a while if you know what I mean .
Yeah, the Kaoss replay? Naah. I saw it in a thumbnail and looked on Thomann. £979? That's crazy. I like my KP3 well enough, but you're right about the RCA connections. It's aimed at DJs, not musicians, same as the Kaoss pad and Kaosscilator. It's just not worth it in my view. My first "real" synth (after the Wasp) was a Korg PolySix when I was a teen in the early\mid 80s. That was the most inspirational synth (along with the Akai AX80) I ever owned. I think I mentioned before that I still have it, it just needs surgery. I love Korg too and agree that they have kind of lost their way, much like Roland. But Korg do seem like a company with split personality disorder. They make great, innovative stuff like the Volcas, Minilogue, monotrons etc., but then do this. I think that Tats is their saving grace. They've given him Korg Berlin, and I think he's going to make some crazy good stuff. Like that electro-acoustic Tuning Fork synth prototype he demoed at a show recently. That's a bit out there, but he designed the 'trons, volcas and 'logues as well. If anyone can steer them in the right direction it's going to be him. Back to the Kaoss Player, I was hoping it would be a nice update to the KP, but at that price they have to be kidding. There are cheaper, probably better, options out there. Im looking to get a sampler, but i think I'm likely to go back and get another Akai. I'm just sad I sold my old one in the mid noughties. They make synths, they make mixers and have TC Electronics FX, now just need performance FX, so a cheaper Kaoss Replay clone is in order. They are also missing a really great sequencer, 8-16 part with step or real-time sequencing, adjustable (and optional) quantization, and being able to record MIDI CCs/NRPNs/sysex as well with unlimited bars, use as many bars as you want. (Or just sequence with any workstation)

Nothing negative about valid criticism. Clearly someone at Korg thought SP404 + Kaoss = Genius and then failed miserably. I mean, this is supposed to be a performance tool yet you can’t combine effects. The Kaoss Pad Quad could do that and it came out 12 years ago. Also, no sequencer? Two (!) USB connections, one of them a micro? No battery? If there’s one thing that’ll tank your performance is when someone yanks on a flimsy USB cable and then your device takes a long, refreshing nap while you stand there looking like a chump. @@toddsmithmusic3172
The only time I buy new is when I know I want the condition to be pristine ... and even then I wait for it to go on sale. Oh ... this device? I already have samplers and Mini Kaoss Pads ... no thanks. :) (And don't forget about the SQ-64 price drop last year!)
My guess is that this was a design that was delayed because of the pandemic, but they had so much sunk into its R&D, that they had to release it. The problem is Roland already made a better version of this and has put out three operating systems worth of updates to it.this device seems to have been rushed out unfinished. For $399, I would buy one. For $1000, no way.
I had and sold a KP3 and have been waiting forever for the next version. I'd use it mostly for sampling or resampling.... but no... I will never buy it for that price. $400-500 tops for me.

Kaoss Replay is not a sampler, its not a drum machine, MPC, or a groovebox. Its an FX unit with sampling capabilities and a few other features that still keep it in the realm of its original concept of an FX box. Kaoss Pad power users will understand it, everybody else won't. What the problem with it is its price, which is lending everybodies oppinion towards it. Up here in Canada, its 1400$!!! Which is priced the same as an MPC and other groovebox, beat production boxes, but with a fraction of the notable features that the other devices have. Korg reeeeeally dropped the ball with this release, soley on the price alone. If they made it 600$, you got a killer updated KP3 and everybody who knows and understands the Koass pad series, would of saw it as that. Korg wtf were you thinking with a price like that?
Sorry, KORG, I will pass on this product. Full disclosure: I have a Korg WaveState, Modwave, and an Opsix. I love them, they are great synthesizers. They came out with the Wavestate SE, at a $2 700 CAN, two to three times more than a Wavestate ! Then, this at $ 999 US, which translate to $ 1 399 CAN ? Sorry, Korg, your marketing department is completely incompetent, they need to be fired OR send them on a trip where they can see how simple folk like me are making music. Come on Korg, a USB-C port to be used only with your power supply, and an other USB port for MIDI? When we compare the features at $ 1 399, I can buy two Roland SP404MKII. Or even better, a Digitakt, the silver 25th anniversary edition! 😛

I think they stick to long in the trend, but it seems good when editing, clear screen.. It's a bit overpriced in my opinion... In Canadian currency it's almost 3 times the price of a new Roland SP 404 but in my opinion they are two completly different machines... would rather go with a KP3 for 5 times less the price i guess.
