Awesome. I have been a commercial fly tier for decades. My family was tying commercially back in the 50's and i am the only one left tying 70 + years later. Commercial fly tiers have to catch the fishermen, then the fish. I love the way you get to tie for the fish. What an awsome feeling that must be!! Love your style!!
Catching bass on mice is what I like to do the most! I’m from Nebraska and fly fishing isn’t really the most popular (hoping to change that!) just wanted to say as one warm water guy to another thank you for what you do!!!!
Thanks again Alvin. For a hobby tier like me this looks like a better mouse fly than deer hair patterns where it's hard to get everything right - body shape, eyes, ears, nose. Alvin is a guide, and not allowed to lie the way us regular fishermen do, so if he says this mouse catches fish it does! Will order natural color pine squirrel zonker strips and gray foam to tie size 4 mice for summer evening trout here in PA.
AL-Dee, like watching you tie. Different from what I do but I definitely learn things from looking over your shoulder. You might want to check out a guy called Smalljaw. He’s not a fly guy but he borrows techniques from fly boys in his bass jigs. I think you’d certainly find things to try on your stuff. We all do similar things but different ways.
Another great video, keep them coming! I’m super stoked to get my 8 wt out and throw big flies for big summer bass, can’t wait! I’m not tying flies yet, what vise is that? Would you do a fly tying basics & tools you use video?
Great tie! I was surprised when you didn’t have foam ears on the fly like a lot of patterns. Of course it is a Guide Fly, and I imagine fish don’t see mouse ears from their perspective. Lol! 👍🏻👍🏻
@@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing Cool thanks. I was playing around with the idea of tying my own, but I wasn't sure how much it would save me. Would you do a video on tying leaders for bass/saltwater?
Do you tie anything for targeting Guadalupe Bass specifically? I know the patterns that Matt Bennett and Chris Johnson among others have come up with but I didn't know if there was a guide fly or a certain pattern you use most of the time to do a video on.
Just came across this video. If you ever decide to name this pattern, I think you should name this Alvin’s Torpedo Rat. I’ve also been looking for more easier rat/ mouse patterns to tie. Thanks for making things easier. If you want feedback if this will work for trout I’m more than happy to let you know.
Yeah, but if you look at the deerhair mouse patterns or a real mouse they have a pointy nose. The other way around is just a variation on a Gurgler, which is another great fly. ua-cam.com/video/Sm0YoXZdVmI/v-deo.htmlsi=XzoGk1eGgGAxvjF7
I couldn't help but notice that you forgot to include legs, ears, whiskers, eye lids, and other elements imperative to mice flies. Personally, I've always felt realistic eye lashes are a key for bass when looking at a mouse fly :). Just being a wise-ass. Thanks for sharing
This one is super easy!

That is my sentiment exactly- a fly to catch fish and the fisherman

Thanks for being here!
Good tie Alvin. Lookin forward to your next one!
More to come!
This cuts out the time consuming deer hair version, excellent tye.

Good luck and let me know how it works for you.
Good stuff. I love these type of flies, simple and to the point. Keep em coming!
Thanks, will do!
Looks super, super easy! Gonna tie some up tonight after beer and BBQ are all gone!
Alvin you do a good job, practical and easy. Guide fly for sure!
Like the simplicity of this pattern!
Thanks!
Gonna add your mouse fly to my bass arsenal. Love those guide flys! Thank you sir!!
Have fun!

I will check him out!
Love your videos. I’m going to tie up a bunch of these. Waaaay quicker and easier than the spun deer hair mice I usually tie.
Awesome! Thank you!
Awesome brother! I hope you are safe and staying busy
I am!
I love these videos 🙏🤙🏼😎
Thank you!
Fantastic tie, A+!
Glad you like it!
Nice easy tie . Use them in Alaska the Rainbows cill um :-)
I always tell people "mice don't work, don't even try" especially if they fish the same places I do 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
🤣
Just like I tell my young children that ice cream does not taste good! Too spicy!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Love the videos.. easy tying
Keep it up 💪
Glad you like them!

Great work!
Thanks!
Thanks Alvin, I always enjoy your tying videos. I’ve had pretty good success on all the patterns I’ve learned from you. Thanks for another one!
Great to hear!
Killer mouse Alvin. Congrats. I'll try it with Amazonian peacock bass. They will love it for sure.
Let me know!
the head should go ahead of the hook... see the video "tying a master splinter mouse fly"
Or you can tie a Gurgler ua-cam.com/video/Sm0YoXZdVmI/v-deo.html
Master splinter skates on top. The bass ackwards rat gonna slide just under the surface. It has its place.
Nice rat! You should name it ratty squirrel!
Good one!
Thanks for the video. Another good one. Do you find this pattern works any time of day or do you usually just fish it at night and at dawn and dusk?
Any time

That's what I was thinking.
If I want to throw some rubber legs on would you add them before the zonker body wraps?
Yes put them on before. I do that sometimes, just didn't have any when I was tying it.
Do the bass eat it nicely. I think bass go crazy to that.
Yes they do!
Do you tie your own leaders for bass and saltwater?
I tie some and I buy some. I usually end up re tying the ones I buy after a few fly changes.

I don't tie anything specific. Most patterns that catch largemouth bass will also catch Guadalupe bass.
@@AlvinDedeauxFlyFishing I feel like a whole bunch of flys are oriented with the hook down. If this is true can you tell me why?

Yes please do report back.
you ever tried tying the head not facing backwards? just wondering

Isn't the head supposed to "push" water? With his head up his rear how will that work?
How can I buy some

😂😂
😮
Which one of you ding dongs disliked this? You probably ketchup in your gumbo.
So its a backwards master splinter
At’ll do it
