Just got fitted for the Taylormade p760s. Before the p760s came out I was about to get the p790s but waited cause taylormade keep on pushing out newer models. And when the p760s came out I went for a fitting. And in loved it! The feel, distance, the sound and everything. So glad I waited. Now I saved up the money, got fitted for p760s is on it's way! So excited to get this bad boys on the course!

This is absolutely mesmerizing! I think anyone who loves golf would say the same. Watching you guys dissect these clubs down to the most minute detail. You have got to open up a shop in the southeastern U.S.
I have the limited edition p790 black and I got them as a cheaper alternative to the Elon’s I wanted and I really can work these clubs. On Sunday I had to hit a 185 yard shot from behind a tree, used a 7 iron and had to work it about 50 yards from right to left and I was on the perfect line and it still went over the green, these clubs are suuuper deep.
P790 looks awesome but what scarred me away was what happened to Matt. First, the over draw is the miss I like to avoid at all cost. Natural flight is already a soft draw. Second, a couple of Matt's shots were hot and flew much further. Maybe that was a strike thing but if you are middle of fairway with a scoring club and that happens that could be the difference between breaking 80 that day or not. 760 seems to have addressed those concerns. Well done by Taylormade.
This is so enjoyable to watch. I have never tried out much of Taylormade irons but both P790 and P760 are way beyond my skill. Will definitely try them out when I improve more. Thanks for the great info guys.
Really great to see this video and I liked the comment of the jumpiness of the p790 and the tendency to draw. I have the p790s right now, love the feel, but I struggle with distance control of my 6&7, as well as a tendency to draw the shots. Would different shafts help? I’m interested to now try the p760s and see how they fair and if the forgiveness is significant enough to give up to have more consistency in the shot distance and shape....or maybe it’s just my swing 🤷🏻♂️. Keep up the great videos!
I’ve got the 790s in my 4-5 irons, and am looking at the 760s in the 6-PW. Looks like I may need to tweak the lofts a bit to close the gaps but will def hit these soon! Thx for the vid!

Great reviews guys. Just got a set of the 790’s but like the look of the 760’s more. But then again my game is not at the point where I would be beneficial to my game.
Good job here. I have about 2 months in playing the 760s (I was sent them before official release). I absolutely love them. As a long time player who likes to play different shots, these are great and accurate. The leading edge grind is pure art. I had the 790s when they first came out a year ago. I could really appreciate them but for others and I sent mine to a long time friend (an older but good player) and they have been transformative for him. He has always been one to play blades or small cavity backs. He has picked up lost yardage and higher shot values. Me, the 760s are best although I can't give up my tour dept M1 4 iron.

This is my reasoning for choosing Ping i210's over iblades....after testing the more offset helped me square up the clubface (my miss being a leak to the right)
How do the P760 compare to the Ping i210 in terms of feel & forgiveness? I’m looking to get into 5-PW and GW. speed foam in the P760 5, 6 and 7 iron (also stronger loft in the 5 & 6 iron of P760) so more ball speed and distance in the P760 in those 2 or 3 irons? I’m a 2.4 handicap, best part of my game is short game especially putting (+5.4 in ARCOSS) Solid overall game, Driver Speed about 100 mph (looking to get up to about 105 with speed sticks this year) Goin for a custom fit at 2ndSwing near Philadelphia come late spring and will put these 2 head to head with Graphite shafts and see what performs best for me!
Guys, What about the short irons? The speed foam vs. no speed foam is THE biggest difference between the clubs. In my fitting a few weeks ago, you guys recommended replacing my P790 8,9, PW and AW with P760s (Vokey 50).
In my search for a new set of irons one thing that would help me is to see the swing speeds as I believe this dramatically affects the carry distances reported in your club reviews. . I'm into my 70's and my swing speed has dropped over the years to a current 88-90 MPH. This has resulted in me losing about 10 yards in my carry distances. Whereas I would hit my 8 iron 150 yards I now hit it about 140-142 yards. BTW I'm still playing with my Ping Eye 2's (on a 9 handicap) so I feel its time to upgrade.........but to which brand/model ???
Would love to see 760 vs new 770 now that the new P series is out since both irons were designed with a goal of putting technology from the 790 into more of a players iron. Seems to me like they accomplished it with 760 and made a hell of an iron but it didn’t have the shelf/ magazine appeal visually that they definitely accomplished with the new 770.
Hi guys! I bought a combo set of the p790 3-6 and p760 7-PW. Project X 6.5 shaft. I have not played well with these clubs at all. My direction and distance is all over the place and my striking has got really bad since I was fit for these at club champion. I’m a 6.5 handicap, 7 iron swing speed is 100-103mph. I have a pretty quick and aggressive transition, pretty steep attack angle, and I come across the ball a bit and hit high fades typically. I’ve lost all confidence in my ball striking with these irons. It’s my first x flex shaft and I kind of feel it might be too stiff because I’ve lost so much feel and consistency in my ball striking. I’ve always been a good ball striker and played players irons. AP2. MP32, P770 to name a few. Recently I tested these clubs at the PGA store indoors with a Project X 6.0 and felt like my timing and feel was much better. The other thing is I tired the PXG 0311T head with the 6.0 and liked it and the the AP2 718 head with the 6.0 and my ball flight, especially with AP2 was straight as an arrow and super neutral and not nearly as fadey as the p760 and p790 irons. I guess my question is is there a reason the 6.0 would work better for me when every fitter says I should be in a heavy x flex shaft and is there a reason AP2 and PXG would be flying so much straighter and more neutral then the Taylormade heads? I just could not put my head around a 7/6 iron carrying 178. That is even more than my typical 6 iron with a carry of 162 at best. I play the 718 AP2's by the way. Question, if Matt is hitting a 7 iron with a 200 carry, how far does the PW carry? does this make for problem at the lower end of the set? just not sure. P760 makes more sense but when i hit them I did not get that hair standing up on your neck feeling i get when i love a club. Like i do when i hit my AP2's or Maltby PTM forged with KBS TGI 110's, OH so nice. Anyway, glad your back and Happy holidays to all.
great stuff as always. seems like 760 and 790 could be combo’d really easily with a little attention to gapping. out of curiosity why don’t you guys go loft to loft (eg 760 6i to 790 7i) instead of bending and affecting bounce?
For the most part we only have a 6 iron demo to use for every model of iron we test, we're hoping next year manufacturers will start to send us full sets for testing but as of now that's not the case
Hi ,I got fitted p790 with modus 105 reg I has apex with nippon 950 gh reg , I can’t seem to get through the ball at and it’s a lower flight .Im getting recoil 95 reg fitted to them I hope these work out ,my swing speed is about 80-85 my swing speed in driver is 100 What do you think guys Thanks charlie
TaylorMade is an interesting company. They’ve always made great products and they seem to be willing to make pretty rapid turnovers in design changes. Given Ian’s background with TaylorMade I’m curious to know if that willingness to make big, fast changes is a mandate within the company. As I said, their products are really solid but isn’t all that change expensive? These irons are a good example; the 790’s are possibly the most gorgeous technologically sophisticated irons I’ve ever laid eyes on; why compete with your own product? I inquired about getting a set of p790 set to a more traditional loft to blend some long irons into the bag with some forgiveness (I play ap2 so the gap was big when trying to blend). During our class trip to the Taylormade facility here in Toronto, I was informed that changing the loft affects the CG. That the loft of the iron is altered to match the CG design of the head, or vice versa depending on how you want to look at it. Regardless the take home information that I got is that changing the loft would negatively affect the performance of the club. Which I had a hard time believing to be honest. What is your take on this little bit of theory from the guys at Taylormade? Interested in your opinion on this. Thanks, Nate
Guys , Great Review thank you. I would only like to challenge the handicap positioning thoughts on these and maybe other clubs along with the more forgiveness for off centre hits topic. Surely if you hit the centre of any club every time then any club fitted correctly will perform well, therefore why would a low handicap golfer not want the forgiveness the P790 offers for the days we all have when we don't hit it perfectly. I play off 4 so reasonably low and love the P790. Had them fitted by TMPC and can find any fault. I tested they P760 and its a great club but there is more drop off in performance the poorer the strike. Why would I not choose the P790 for those shots when I need it? Love to hear your thoughts on clubs for specific handicaps and why anyone would give up "game improvement features". For me hitting the ball on the green with any help available is optimum. BR Andy
New comment on an older vid. Might be wrong but if you're adding 2.5 degrees to the p790, this would add offset. This would explain the extra little but of closure of the face at impact.
How much does the fact Matt hits dead center come into play? Even at adjusted same lofts does a more average ball striker missing center possibly have different test results? A human iron Byron is not me... Does example the p790 tech maybe come into play missing center vs the p760
The P760 are in my local pro shop and look really pretty clubs.The P790 is a very nice looking club but the P760 is definitely a cut above in looks. IMO the P790 are great clubs for mid handicap players (say 8-15 but even higher HC with a nice swing could play them) whereas P760 is definitely a better player club. If I was looking to buy new irons today P760s would be high on my list (as would Mizuno 919 Tours/Forged combo set) even though my ability is probably more in the P790 than P760 range
im a 5 handicap and i play and love the P790s. The iron is a beast and plenty workable. i play a buttery cut all day. These clubs are versatile, anyone can use them.
I absolutely loved the 760s. Couldn't believe how good they were... Only lost a few yards over my p790, and has plenty of forgiveness for decent ball strikers. The softness is unreal, too.
Hi Ian, I would like to know what has become of your clubhead speed training with theSuperSpeed training aids. Are they any good? Have you gained any mph? I have not heard anything about it anymore since you volunteered to guinea pig for them. I think you set yourself a target of 8 mph...
For the modern GI irons, the justifications from the manufacturer for the stronger lofts are the higher launch angle and peak height. However, it is not the case with the P790 shown in your video. Bent to the same static loft, the P790 produces the same peak height as the P760 in your test. The results are surprisingly similar despite the draw bias. I wonder what the result would be like if the P790 were left at the factory loft. Would the stronger loft produces higher ball speed, and in turn produces higher peak height? (Similar to the 919 Hot Metal vs 919 Forged video)
When you say "a little bit more for the better player" referring to the 760s, what handicap range is that in reference to? I have the 790s, and they work very well for me but I'd like to have more control of my shot-shape. I'm a 5 index (5-8 handicap), does that skill level warrant a change? Or would it take a scratch golfer to utilize the differences? Great video
Guys, once again you do not the right way. Great comparison for Matt - I for one am really really interested in what would Al’s results look like. After all, Matt would never be fit for a set of p7-anything, but the average 10 handicapper is going to wonder about the forgiveness between these sets moresore from finding out if they want to game a mixed set of these two clubs - is it worth pairing a P760 set with P790 long irons?

Great video! Was the true lie changed at all by the changing of loft? It was weird how often the toe was hit on the 790s. What advice would you give to someone who will go to a fitter like TXG (I only have club champion near me) and would request a loft change for a club like the 790s (Ping i500s) to create a Mixed set with their clubs that's similar to 760s (iblades)?
@@vika0194 but when you look at it, the P730 is the blade, the P760 is the players CB and the P790 the Game improvement model.....3,6, 9.....previously they went 3,5,7,9 and but consolidated two models....brilliant simplification if you ask me....which you did!
You should test the shorter irons because those have no speed foam vs speed foam, can you also not change the lofts for half the tests because some of what they are built for is the distance challenged player
In the p760 the 7 has speed foam and the 8 iron doesn't as I've found out to my expense they go the same distance so have wasted my money other than that great clubs wether they will stay in my bag will depend on wether a club guru can work his magic and adjust the lifts to suit otherwise they'll have to be sold
Ian, looking to get fit at TMPC Kingsfield for p760. I already play p790 (weakened lofts on them 7i *32 and so on)but just like Matt tend to turn them over more often than not. Would love your feedback on whether it’s worth the upgrade? I play to decent level (4) I do like the forgiveness of the 790 longs irons tho! @@jasonpollard7157 Why not? Was on Golfwrx discussing steel shafts in hybrids and a few members said they put the same shaft in their hybrids as they have in their irons. I asked them how much distance they think they lost by doing that and they all replied "none". Sort of blew me away :-)

I like the irons but was thinking about getting fitted in the Mizuno 919 Hot Metal after watching your review/opinion on them. Is there that much more of a difference in forgiveness between the two? How about ball flight? I'm looking for an iron that's easier to hit and more consistent in dispersion and height. Would lover to get some feed back from you two. Would consider the P790 to be a bit softer than the hot metals, some of that may be due to sound feedback though - with the hot metals having a bit more of a clicky sound
I have p760 irons good striker off the ball I can tell you where they differ 8 _7 iron they go the same distance as do for so.e strange reason my 4 and 5 iron booked in to have a lift and lie angle check not ideal on an expensive set of irons I hope I resolve the issue but so far as impressed as I am something's wrong I play off 8 and my strong point is my iron play so I can't see anything I'm doing wrong as a player. Initially very impressed having got used to the irons now rather disappointed and taylor made have been most unhelpful. Test it yourself chaps 7 and 8 iron is love to see your results as my head is baffled

Wouldn't disagree that bounce changes could introduce changes to sole interaction, although in this video the misses were generally thin anyway so likely didn't affect the data.
I hope he is “gaming” these irons. I hit the 760s for the first time tonight having no knowledge of tech involved in the heads been looking for something more forgiving a little higher ball flight I’m a 4 handicap and my irons are WITHOUT a doubt the weakest part of my game. I was shocked looking at the head then back at the height and and spin I have a REAL problem hitting the ball higher. Every time I go to a fitter they always say the same thing you need more “workable” clubs heavier shafts based on my swing speed and smash factor but when club meets the course it doesn’t work… I swing around 90 with 7 iron but lighter shafts increase head weight which I like. I “was” at a + 2.9 handicap at one time but my irons are KILLING me.
Another great video guys! Best content on UA-cam by far! My swing speed is in the high 90’s and have been using the 790’s with chrome soft X which stabilized the flight. I have 15 yard gaps so was thinking of weakening the loft 1 degree. Your thoughts? ☺️🙏🏼
would recommend going for a gapping session to assess distances/spin rates with each club - the 15 yards isn't necessarily an issue if it's consistent through the set.

P790S for me ,as soon as I got fitted I went from 15 to 7 in 6 months and I was 2 clubs longer then my old clubs.

Assume offset will be more pronounced on P790 if you have bent it 3 degrees ? Great video, but course test only real way to find out the answer.

Question, if Matt is hitting a 7 iron with a 200 carry, how far does the PW carry? does this make for problem at the lower end of the set? just not sure. P760 makes more sense but when i hit them I did not get that hair standing up on your neck feeling i get when i love a club. Like i do when i hit my AP2's or Maltby PTM forged with KBS TGI 110's, OH so nice. Anyway, glad your back and Happy holidays to all.
great stuff as always. seems like 760 and 790 could be combo’d really easily with a little attention to gapping. out of curiosity why don’t you guys go loft to loft (eg 760 6i to 790 7i) instead of bending and affecting bounce?
For the most part we only have a 6 iron demo to use for every model of iron we test, we're hoping next year manufacturers will start to send us full sets for testing but as of now that's not the case

Hi ,I got fitted p790 with modus 105 reg I has apex with nippon 950 gh reg , I can’t seem to get through the ball at and it’s a lower flight .Im getting recoil 95 reg fitted to them I hope these work out ,my swing speed is about 80-85 my swing speed in driver is 100

TaylorMade is an interesting company. They’ve always made great products and they seem to be willing to make pretty rapid turnovers in design changes. Given Ian’s background with TaylorMade I’m curious to know if that willingness to make big, fast changes is a mandate within the company. As I said, their products are really solid but isn’t all that change expensive? These irons are a good example; the 790’s are possibly the most gorgeous technologically sophisticated irons I’ve ever laid eyes on; why compete with your own product?

I inquired about getting a set of p790 set to a more traditional loft to blend some long irons into the bag with some forgiveness (I play ap2 so the gap was big when trying to blend). During our class trip to the Taylormade facility here in Toronto, I was informed that changing the loft affects the CG. That the loft of the iron is altered to match the CG design of the head, or vice versa depending on how you want to look at it. Regardless the take home information that I got is that changing the loft would negatively affect the performance of the club. Which I had a hard time believing to be honest. What is your take on this little bit of theory from the guys at Taylormade? Interested in your opinion on this.

Guys , Great Review thank you. I would only like to challenge the handicap positioning thoughts on these and maybe other clubs along with the more forgiveness for off centre hits topic. Surely if you hit the centre of any club every time then any club fitted correctly will perform well, therefore why would a low handicap golfer not want the forgiveness the P790 offers for the days we all have when we don't hit it perfectly. I play off 4 so reasonably low and love the P790. Had them fitted by TMPC and can find any fault. I tested they P760 and its a great club but there is more drop off in performance the poorer the strike. Why would I not choose the P790 for those shots when I need it? Love to hear your thoughts on clubs for specific handicaps and why anyone would give up "game improvement features". For me hitting the ball on the green with any help available is optimum.

New comment on an older vid. Might be wrong but if you're adding 2.5 degrees to the p790, this would add offset. This would explain the extra little but of closure of the face at impact.

How much does the fact Matt hits dead center come into play? Even at adjusted same lofts does a more average ball striker missing center possibly have different test results? A human iron Byron is not me...

The P760 are in my local pro shop and look really pretty clubs.The P790 is a very nice looking club but the P760 is definitely a cut above in looks. IMO the P790 are great clubs for mid handicap players (say 8-15 but even higher HC with a nice swing could play them) whereas P760 is definitely a better player club. If I was looking to buy new irons today P760s would be high on my list (as would Mizuno 919 Tours/Forged combo set) even though my ability is probably more in the P790 than P760 range
im a 5 handicap and i play and love the P790s. The iron is a beast and plenty workable. i play a buttery cut all day. These clubs are versatile, anyone can use them.

I absolutely loved the 760s. Couldn't believe how good they were... Only lost a few yards over my p790, and has plenty of forgiveness for decent ball strikers. The softness is unreal, too.

I would like to know what has become of your clubhead speed training with theSuperSpeed training aids. Are they any good? Have you gained any mph? I have not heard anything about it anymore since you volunteered to guinea pig for them. I think you set yourself a target of 8 mph...
For the modern GI irons, the justifications from the manufacturer for the stronger lofts are the higher launch angle and peak height. However, it is not the case with the P790 shown in your video. Bent to the same static loft, the P790 produces the same peak height as the P760 in your test. The results are surprisingly similar despite the draw bias. I wonder what the result would be like if the P790 were left at the factory loft. Would the stronger loft produces higher ball speed, and in turn produces higher peak height? (Similar to the 919 Hot Metal vs 919 Forged video)

When you say "a little bit more for the better player" referring to the 760s, what handicap range is that in reference to? I have the 790s, and they work very well for me but I'd like to have more control of my shot-shape. I'm a 5 index (5-8 handicap), does that skill level warrant a change? Or would it take a scratch golfer to utilize the differences? Great video

Guys, once again you do not the right way. Great comparison for Matt - I for one am really really interested in what would Al’s results look like. After all, Matt would never be fit for a set of p7-anything, but the average 10 handicapper is going to wonder about the forgiveness between these sets moresore from finding out if they want to game a mixed set of these two clubs - is it worth pairing a P760 set with P790 long irons?

Great video! Was the true lie changed at all by the changing of loft? It was weird how often the toe was hit on the 790s. What advice would you give to someone who will go to a fitter like TXG (I only have club champion near me) and would request a loft change for a club like the 790s (Ping i500s) to create a Mixed set with their clubs that's similar to 760s (iblades)?

You should test the shorter irons because those have no speed foam vs speed foam, can you also not change the lofts for half the tests because some of what they are built for is the distance challenged player
In the p760 the 7 has speed foam and the 8 iron doesn't as I've found out to my expense they go the same distance so have wasted my money other than that great clubs wether they will stay in my bag will depend on wether a club guru can work his magic and adjust the lifts to suit otherwise they'll have to be sold
That sucks, if you have a big club warehouse in your area you could probably trade them in for the p790s in your specs
Ian, looking to get fit at TMPC Kingsfield for p760. I already play p790 (weakened lofts on them 7i *32 and so on)but just like Matt tend to turn them over more often than not. Would love your feedback on whether it’s worth the upgrade? I play to decent level (4) I do like the forgiveness of the 790 longs irons tho!

@@jasonpollard7157 Why not? Was on Golfwrx discussing steel shafts in hybrids and a few members said they put the same shaft in their hybrids as they have in their irons. I asked them how much distance they think they lost by doing that and they all replied "none". Sort of blew me away :-)

As always, great video guys! Just wanted to get your opinion on something. I currently game the Taylormade P790 irons and I play at a 19 handicap. I like the irons but was thinking about getting fitted in the Mizuno 919 Hot Metal after watching your review/opinion on them. Is there that much more of a difference in forgiveness between the two? How about ball flight? I'm looking for an iron that's easier to hit and more consistent in dispersion and height. Would lover to get some feed back from you two. Hot metals are a bigger profile iron head, but differences in forgiveness likely wouldn't be huge

Would consider the P790 to be a bit softer than the hot metals, some of that may be due to sound feedback though - with the hot metals having a bit more of a clicky sound
I have p760 irons good striker off the ball I can tell you where they differ 8 _7 iron they go the same distance as do for so.e strange reason my 4 and 5 iron booked in to have a lift and lie angle check not ideal on an expensive set of irons I hope I resolve the issue but so far as impressed as I am something's wrong I play off 8 and my strong point is my iron play so I can't see anything I'm doing wrong as a player. Initially very impressed having got used to the irons now rather disappointed and taylor made have been most unhelpful. Test it yourself chaps 7 and 8 iron is love to see your results as my head is baffled

Wouldn't disagree that bounce changes could introduce changes to sole interaction, although in this video the misses were generally thin anyway so likely didn't affect the data.
I hope he is “gaming” these irons. I hit the 760s for the first time tonight having no knowledge of tech involved in the heads been looking for something more forgiving a little higher ball flight I’m a 4 handicap and my irons are WITHOUT a doubt the weakest part of my game. I was shocked looking at the head then back at the height and and spin I have a REAL problem hitting the ball higher. Every time I go to a fitter they always say the same thing you need more “workable” clubs heavier shafts based on my swing speed and smash factor but when club meets the course it doesn’t work… I swing around 90 with 7 iron but lighter shafts increase head weight which I like. I “was” at a + 2.9 handicap at one time but my irons are KILLING me.

Another great video guys! Best content on UA-cam by far! My swing speed is in the high 90’s and have been using the 790’s with chrome soft X which stabilized the flight. I have 15 yard gaps so was thinking of weakening the loft 1 degree. Your thoughts? ☺️🙏🏼
would recommend going for a gapping session to assess distances/spin rates with each club - the 15 yards isn't necessarily an issue if it's consistent through the set.
