This song takes me back to the days of my youth in the early 70s. I had the most wonderful girlfriend who was learning to play the guitar and this was one of her favourite songs. I can remember it so well: she was sitting at her desk silhouetted by the window behind her and she sang it to me. Ahhh! They were such happy days. Thank you for posting this; you've made an ageing man very happy.
I learned to play this in my second or third year of piano, I didn't know so many loved this beautiful song like I did. She sings like an angel, I am in tears.
I remember when a dear friend sang this to an elderly couple who were celebrating their wedding anniversary. We were at a restaurant in Venice (Italy). That was over 30 years ago and I still treasure the memory...
🙌 This Is A Very Sentimental Song For Me. I Was Asked To Sing It! He Then Passed Away! It Was A Very Painful Experience. Joan Baez Sings This So Beautifully. 💔
I never heard Joan sing this before! It's so beautiful! I used to sing this as a classical singer, but this version is so very beautiful! I've always loved Joan Baez' voice, but never heard her sing like this! Thank you for posting!!
Vampiracho Yes it does. Did you know that Love me tender sung by Elvis was taken from an old British song called Auralee. We sang it in boys choir in High School in 1965.I would sing with our best bass & my music teacher Mr. Woods said to the rest of the class wasn't that just beautiful. Arnold has a very special quality to his voice doesn't he & they all clapped except for Jim Baker who thought he was the best tenor & after class walking to English class he says to the guys. Arnold sings good when he sings by himself but when he sings with the choir he's too loud & off key. My best to friend Ralph Ellis laughed so hard & said you have absolutely no type of talent what so ever. Your not good at anything & everyone laughed. I felt sorry for him. And he would always sit next to me in choir & English we had nothing in common. Old memories my friend. Take care. We saw Joanie 1968.She was much better live. Arnold Bourbon Amaral ☺🌎🌍🌏
I am exhausted now completely, after that song has taken place, so I can't understand French while it is spoken for a single conclusion, but who cares about, because it all was arranged so pure and innocent.
I was seeing and was very much in love with a very pretty girl and this was our love song After we had to part I saw Joan in Edinburgh and she sang our song and I could not listen goodbye grace
Plaisir d'amour ne dure qu'on moment Chagrin d'amour dure toute la vie The joys of love are but a moment long The pain of love endures the whole life long Your eyes kissed mine, I saw the love in them shine You brought me heaven right then, when your eyes kissed mine My love loves me and all the wonders I see A rainbow shines in my window, my love loves me And now he's gone, like a dream that fades into dawn But the words stay locked in my heartstrings, my love loves me Plaisir d'amour ne dure qu'on moment Chagrin d'amour dure toute la vie
How many know that the composer of this hauntingly sad love song (Giambattista Martini 1706-1784) was a Franciscan friar and Catholic priest? I'll bet there's a story there somewhere.
her french sounded perfect! sadly she switch to english (I guess it made the ones who don't understand french get the poetic message). I wish to hear her sing it all in french one day!
This was my mom's favorite song she used to sing it in French.......she passed away last month, I miss her so much

Her soul goes marching on and you will see her again.
She in heaven must be watching you and loving you from there my brother. GOD BLESS YOU
oh... same here...my mom's favorite song...sorry to hear that..I bet your mom is in rest in heaven and smiling watching you.
Meus pêsames. In english.
This is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard, my god
1966 - 2023 (57 years), this song is still very much my favourite. Joan Baez sang it very touchingly, hence this comment. 🙏
Oh, what a beautiful song...the words speak of love that's so pure and beautiful! ...we've lost so much in this generation!
The most beautiful woman in the world making the most beautiful sound in the most beautiful language in the world.
Oui, vive Jeanne d'Arc .

Many have covered this lovely song. Joan Baez owns it.
Try nana mouskouri...on that song...it's perfection, even thought i like this one to.
Hearing her sing it with Nana Mouskouri is a joy beyond compare.
I learned to play this in my second or third year of piano, I didn't know so many loved this beautiful song like I did. She sings like an angel, I am in tears.
Absolutely beautiful song ' from the voice of an Angel Joan Baez' make the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end sublime x.
Beautiful song sung by a beautiful woman with a beautiful voice.
The voice of an angel, beautiful
Elvis Presley could conceivably have heard a recording of this (18th century) song's melody to help create the song "Can't Help Falling in Love".
The most beautiful song I ever heard. The most beautiful Soul still with us. ♥

Magnifique interprétation !!
I cry every time I hear this. Describes my parents' marriage, which I'm writing about in a memoir titled Within the Family.
The most hauntingly beautiful song ever. Sublime.
I agree...
i remember my friends of 1968 with this celestial music.

This Absolutely Makes Me Reach For The Tissues.
The Lyrics Are Absolutely Beautiful.

In the sixties she really was the most insanely beautiful individual, from all points of view.
BEAUTIFUL SONG ❤ BEAUTIFUL JOAN
I love this song so much I find my self singing or humming it every day xxxx

The best version ever heard. Thanks so much.

So so beautiful to hear

"I can't help falling in love with you" is so similar to this.

That’s because Elvis used this song as a basis for that one
@@arnoldamaral7406 thank you for sharing your memory ☺
Can't Help Falling in Love was specifically adapted from this.
Elvis’ producers saw The Heiress which has the song
a superior talent, no doubt
wunderschön !
just incredible
veramente favolosa
Thank You Friend, ‘WONDERFUL video, 👍👍👍👍👍 BIG THUMBS UP,
Love ya dearly! Cheers OXOX
Elzonal Hampton loved this song and I remember her on the 8th of January, it would have been her her 114th birthday
RADICAL !
I hear this and I am in Paris 1968 merci ❤🗼🇫🇷
I hear this and I am in heaven.

Chagrin d'amour dure toute la vie
Sure does
I love you dearly, my Chloé...
take my hand, take my whole life too
but i can't help falling in love with you
nemuchan Exactly ! Can’t help falling in was stolen from that very ancient French song « plaisirs d’amour » ..
@@ddbe3932 Yep. Ripped off, no doubt.
AMOREVOLE

Plaisir d'amour ne dure qu'on moment
Chagrin d'amour dure toute la vie
The joys of love are but a moment long
The pain of love endures the whole life long
Your eyes kissed mine,
I saw the love in them shine
You brought me heaven right then,
when your eyes kissed mine
My love loves me and all the wonders I see
A rainbow shines in my window,
my love loves me
And now he's gone,
like a dream that fades into dawn
But the words stay locked in my heartstrings,
my love loves me
Plaisir d'amour ne dure qu'on moment
Chagrin d'amour dure toute la vie
When I contemplate Joan's beauty and talent, there should be a law made against her...
I'm sure plenty of people have tried. She's a thorn in the side of evil.
Something very special. Noel mahony 76

Strange idea with the camera..
Oh I dunno. It's a lover singing to her missing lover.
@@bmcgoo6027 no, it's some artistic dickhead with too much power.

Is it just me or does that repeating camera shot of the mirror she turns her head to look into kinda not work?
It's not just you. So many musicians have been victims of directors who had an idea they just had to try.
Joan is better than that, I'm surprised she let them do that to her.
her french sounded perfect! sadly she switch to english (I guess it made the ones who don't understand french get the poetic message). I wish to hear her sing it all in french one day!
Is this the original?
Hardly, it was written in 1784!
No. Only the first part in French is the original. Nana Mouskouri sings the whole genuine song. But Joan's voice is amazing
