  • Welcome back! The FZ600 project is still truckin' on! With the mail and parts being so slow to arrive this video took almost 2 months to make! But it is finally here! Most of what I ordered came in and over the course of those 2 months or so I DID shoot video of each bit of progress.
So check it out! Thanks for watching and hit the subscribe button if you're into more!
Rebuilding FZ600 Carburetors, new fuel petcock parts/petcock rebuild, and some other bits like throttle cables and stuff. :)

I had a 1986 FZ600 as my 2nd bike, i bored it out to a 650, had a stage 3 K&N filter kit, ignition advancer and a Vance and Hines exhaust, it hauled ass and looked so amazing, i miss it

I got a 1985 XJ600 (FJ600) and a 1986 FZ600 in a two for one sort of deal a year ago. I got the XJ to a point where I dare to daily it, though it needs a valve cover gasket. I bought K&N copies off Amazon and a DynoJet kit, she runs pretty good now! It’s fun watching your videos, I recognize a lot of thought processes, haha.

Hey my 1987 Fz600 has a fried stator/ Generator. And I don't want to pay the 700$ for a used one. Is there a way to go around that? Or maybe use an alternator?

What did you end up doing about those boots on the airbox? Also, do you just squeeze and pull them out?
The carbs don't need any adjustments or torquing do they if I am just replace needs, o rings etc. do they?

Thanks for the video. I’m currently rebuilding the carbs on a U.K. model 1987 fz600. Are you keeping the k’n pod filters? If so what main and pilot jet sizes did you use? Also how come you didn’t reuse the filters on the float needle housing thing?

So far it looks like I'll keep the pods on. I honestly can't remember the jet size! I bought larger jets but the exact size escapes me. The new float needle sets that I got didn't have the filters and the ones it had on the bike were so bad that I elected against using anything from the old parts. I'll have an in-line paper fuel filter that will pick up any debris.

Haha the same sufferings I went through with my 400 version, finding an original fuel petcock was a nightmare and sourcing replacement boots for a reasonable price impossible! Funny seeing the similarities, right down to the fork valve and filter issues.

I think I'll be reconditioning these boots.... Provided I can get them off without cracking them lol.

Where did you find a fuel petcock?

It's the original petcock. Just new parts... which ended up being leaky. The bike is sold and the new owner has taken care of the leak with a different gasket kit he found online and all is good!

Where did you order your OEM parts from?

Depends on what I needed. I try partzilla.com first but on old bikes some stuff is discontinued. After that it's ebay. Copy the part number from partzilla and search Yamaha ______. (paste part num) and see what ha get!
